    10 weeks post op

So just about 10 weeks post op. No issues at all. No pain, I have had zero issues with any foods i have tried, zero issues with any drinks i have had. scars have healed up very nice, Vitamin intake has been good. only causes nausea once in a while. still taking medication for at least a year to prevent gall stones. Heart burn has been zero after the first couple weeks (which was very bad) My daily meals typically consist of either a chicken egg or 2 quail eggs with onions, banana peppers and cheese (Or if i am not feeling like food, i have a core power protein shake) Lunch typically either grilled chicken or tuna Dinner for most days i have grilled king salmon I went out to eat for the first time a few days ago. Friends and I were on a boat fishing and we decided to ride over to a restaurant on the water and i ordered the Grilled Shrimp that came with French fries. Out of the 10 grilled shrimp i could only eat 5 of them. I also had probably 7 fries out of the basket. But still it was nice. Gave the rest of the food to friends to eat since we were still going to be out on the water for a bit. Clothing has been a change. I have had to buy a new belt as the old one was too big as well as my pants. Shirts so far i am down from a 3-4 XL to 2XL ALMOST DOWN 60LB so far
  2. I'm a month out now. Down 18 lbs since surgery. I didn't come out of surgery at a higher weight and I continued to lose weight the first week or two. Then the stall hit. It's hard not to get frustrated when the weight isn't dropping. Especially since I saw it drop so fast on the liver shrinking diet. The pace of loss now is not nearly as exciting. Even knowing in advance that I won't see the same rate of loss and that there will be a stall. I just have to remind myself that the 19 lbs I've lost in the last month is still a greater weight loss than I was able to do on my own in the last 10 years. And I have to remind myself that even at a relatively slow weight loss of 5 lbs per month I can reach my goal weight in a year. That's really pretty fast when you think about it.
  3. Ok so I have behaved with pre op…I’m day 10…surgery is on June 29. Today, I’m really craving tea so I was wondering if it’s ok for me to have just one cup of tea which contains probably around 30 mg of caffeine? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    August Surgery Buddies!

I’ve had quite a journey already and I haven’t had surgery yet! I was suppose to have surgery in November. Then covid shut surgeries down at my hospital. I didn’t get another date until June 8th. That was rescheduled for June 22nd. So, the night before my surgery on June 21st the hospital called me at 10:16 at night to say that my surgery was canceled due to my surgeon getting covid! So, my new date is August 10th. Phew! My very first doctor appointment was June 3rd of LAST year! Haha! I’m having gastric bypass with hiatal hernia repair.

My taste buds are weird now LOL

To me hummus and cooked salmon taste like they have been in the dustbin in the sun for 10 day eeeuw. My sense of smell was just like when I was pregnant, certain aromas like foods frying would make me wretch. Now that has calmed and I am so happy about it
  6. I have lost 205 pounds since my surgery. I'm 2 years post op on July 23rd. I am still hoping to lose 15 or 20 more and I do have a lot of loose skin, especially on my stomach and legs. I don't have a ton on my arms because they've never been that big. I do have loose skin just about everywhere but it's the worst from the waist down, especially my lower stomach. I paid for my wls so I really don't have it in the budget to have loose skin removal unless I can get insurance to cover a panniculectomy, so for now I have to live with it and I am OK with that. I really thought it would bother me a lot. The biggest issue I have is that my legs are thinner than they ever been, especially in proportion to my body, and shorts and pants are often too big in the legs when they fit in the waist and that drives me nuts. I'd take all this loose skin in heartbeat over weighing almost 400 pounds again though! I'm gonna include a pic of me in clothes and me in a two piece swimsuit. I have never worn a two piece, but the way I see it I lost all that weight and I REFUSE to be ashamed of my body ever again, no matter how it looks. It may be that I'm old now, but I just don't care what anyone thinks anymore. I'm including the swimsuit pic so you can actually see some of my loose skin, and also you can see in clothes that it's really not visible, even though I don't care too much about hiding it anyway. I know not everyone feels this way, but I struggled with self esteem issues most of my life, and in the last 10 years ago I worked on that a lot and refuse to hate my body anymore. First Post-Op Dr Visit

The difference is still the difference. If your scaled started at 200 and now 210, it is 10 lbs. If theirs started at 215 and now 205, still 10 lbs. Just use the scale to track loss not your actual weight, if that makes sense?
  8. I only took off 10 days. Big mistake, even though I am also working from home. Yes, you may be able to move around I did but I really needed the rest and would fall asleep at my desk, in the middle of meetings, on the phone and with my hands still on the keyboard. (you get the idea) Also, when counting how much liquid I was getting I noticed that if things got hectic I would forget to take sips sometimes and had to try and play catch up so that is something to also be aware of. My doctors office never gave me a note and I think they forgot and I regret not asking and taking off the time I needed. Give it some thought about what you really want to do.

    Weight gain & Health Issues

the people who gain it back are those who let bad eating habits slip back into their lives. most people do experience a 10-20 lb rebound gain after hitting their lowest weight. It's not inevitable, but it does seem to happen to most of us. As far as gaining it all back, though, yes, it happens to some - but not most. If you monitor yourself, though, and keep up with the good habits, then you're not going to gain it all back. serious health changes? That would be super rare. You're much more likely to experience serious health issues by staying obese. Most people see vast improvements in their health after surgery. Fatigue is common the first couple of months after surgery - surgery is a major stress on your body (any surgery - not just this one), and you're taking in very few calories to boot. After that, though, you'll probably have more energy than you do now. hormonal changes are temporary. That should all stabilize sometime within the first year. Permanent hair loss would be extremely rare. no weight loss at all would only happen if you don't follow the program.

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

Good afternoon, I'm officially 10 weeks post op after VSG. I've only lost 48 lbs, but I'm feeling SO much better than before. Just curious for anyone who's been out of surgery around the same time (my date was April 13th) and what you've lost during this time. I'm not worried about not losing more because 48lbs in 10 weeks is still a great amount to have lost, but my surgeon said I would've lost between 50-60 lbs by 8 weeks out, on average. Weight loss is consistent now, I didn't lose anything for about 3+ weeks after week 3 while I was healing, but now it's consistently about 3-4 lbs down every week. I've also found it helpful to include at least 2 tbsp a day of some type of grain or starch (nothing processed/white/wheat). When I stay lower in carbs (below 35), I don't lose weight at all for that week.

    Food Before and After Photos

Hubby grilled this tomahawk steak Father's day. It was amazing! We are enjoying the leftovers this week. Pair it with homemade broccoli and cauliflower salads - for a lighter touch side dish. Can only tolerate about 10 tiny bites of beef at a meal.

Mine was June 8…gastric bypass. I did modified liquid (read occasional cheating) starting 3 weeks before. More modified liquid (almost no cheating) 2 weeks before. 100% compliant liquid -not even the thought of cheating- one week before. Two days before surgery, it was difficult, but I attribute of that to nerves. i am 2 weeks post op tomorrow. liquids since June 10 when I got home. I’m not hungry, and I feel better than I have in 25 years. I am meeting my liquid and Protein goals. good luck to you!

    9 days post-op

I am 10 days post opp( week 2), thin liquids as well with cream soups, pudding, Greek yogurt. Soft veggies are not on my list till week 3 with Puréed but every surgeon/nutritionist is different. As long as you are tolerating it should be fine.

    June 2022 surgery buddies

I had my surgery June 10th so I'm on day 10. I was terrified but learned really quickly that the surgical pain wasn't nearly as close to challenging as getting that gas pain out. That was rough and I can now feel WHAT I suspect is some surgery pain but it pretty much just feels like I've done a few too many crunches, which I can assure you, has not happened. 😂 I only had to take my pain medication the first full day home from surgery and I'm sure it was still the gas pain. Otherwise, pain has not really been an issue which is awesome! The clear diet has not been fun at all, and this second week isn't much fun either by being able to add protein shakes but only four more days until I get to start experimenting with pureed foods! Since I LOVE chicken, tuna, and egg salads, that's what I'll be prepping up for my puree week and first week back at work. Super excited about the possibilities of this new journey! 15. Hello everyone. So glad I found this forum and I hope it's active because I don't really have anyone other than my surgeon, his nurse, and my nutritionist to ask questions of and they don't have time to be my BFF. Hahaha! My surgery was Friday, June 10th so I'm am on day 10. I feel much better than I did this time last week but dangggg I'm starrrrrving and I am so very over jello, Popsicles, broth, protein shakes, etc. Surely there has got to be something else with a bit more body that I could start to try to get my mini tummy ready for week three, which I'll only have two days to adapt to before returning to work, that will also keep me from feeling like I'm starving. I've been super duper strict and had hoped to do so the entire time but I'm actually concerned about other things because of lack of nutrition. I have been dealing with dizziness, lack of balance, minimal energy (which is highly irritating because I had cleaning plans to work on the two weeks I would be out of work) and just overall weak as all get out. I am getting lots of water, some jello, broth, and Popsicles, and I try to do two protein shakes a day so plenty of fluids, but how in the world can I find something to give me some energy that won't ruin what my nutritionist gave me in an eating plan? I know I am SICK to death of sweet stuff. Blegh! Haha! I have backyard chickens. Would it be bad to try a backyard Fresh scrambled egg and see how my mini tum tum handles it? If not, what other ideas do those of you who are more experienced have?

I'm so sorry to hear of this. Do not give up as everyone's experie b ce is different. Have you tried walking? Walking helped me a little in my early days after GS and hernia repair - especially those shoulder, chest and neck pains. Try to walk as much as possible. Start with 10 minute walks then increase it gradually. This helps, trust me. You will slso see the pounds falling. Drink water, and walk.
  18. Hi! I've been reading through the forums and I've learned so much. I'm so excited/nervous as I start the pre-op diet today. I have to do 10 days of liquids, which I'm prepared for but still incredibly nervous. I'm really ready to just pay my money and get the surgery over with before I back out. I'm ready to start the next chapter of my journey. I'm so thankful for my husband who is incredibly supportive. I think my biggest fear is still being unhappy with myself after surgery.

    Needing help

Hey, I am 8 days post op today and I definitely recommend the multivitamin patch as well. My Doc doesn't have me starting the bariatric B vitamin complex till I see him at my 10 day post opp on Monday. The first 7 days post opp I had my 1 oz medicine cups and I was advised to shoot for 4 cups in an hour-so I would give myself 15 mins to finish 1oz. I kept a timer on my phone and it helps alot. I am now on thin liquids and still using the same method. Protein is key so I drank Premier clear Protein during my clears week which helped. I have not felt hunger but I noted feeling weak/fatigued, which clues me in that I am not getting enough calories in.
  20. Greetings! I got the sleeve! My plan basically says to exclude sugar for the first few months to avoid dumping!!! Which I plan to do but mannnn I keep having dreams about eating chocolate LOL so I bought some sugar free chocolate puddings for when I can have that, I guess I’ll see how it agrees with me. Thanks for the advice and I’m looking forward to that cake on my birthday hahaha. So far I feel ok I feel a bit of tightness in my abdominal area still. I’ll be getting on a plane tomorow for 19 hours which I’m not excited about since I got my surgery in my homeland of Egypt. Flying back to America tomorow!!! Wish me luck xx Def been planning as much as I could for when I get back and hoping work isn’t too strenuous on me, I just feel kind of exhausted at times but I’m sure that has to do with the fact that there is NOTHING in my body lol I’ll keep u posted

Go surgery twin! I am day 3 post-op and feel normal. No Tylenol needed. I am struggling with the protein water. My surgeon has us do a 1 week clear liquid post op. And I’ve been more focused about hydration over the protein. Does anyone have any recommendations? I tried isopure. I can tolerate the Gatorade but it only has 10 grams and he wants me to have 30 a day. I guess I could drink 3 of those in a day.
  24. I'm halfway through my 2 week pre-op diet and in the past couple of days I've discovered I enjoy watching YouTube videos of people doing food challenges. Not gross, 10 hot dogs in a minute challenges, but eating lots of food. I feel like it partially satisfies my desire to binge and also gives me some of that about-to-eat anticipation I love. And for whatever reason, it doesn't make me more hungry. I even enjoy watching them eat things that I don't eat (since I'm a vegetarian). I also like watching people do food reviews while they're eating though not quite as much. Anyone else experience this? Does this sound like a bad thing? I don't want to embed a YouTube video since the thumbnail has food, but here's an example of one I really enjoyed watching last night: Click here for food
