Not sure what to do...family doc against bariatric surgery

Yes. Switch PCs (or at least that’s what I would do). That’s BS. -
3 weeks but I called BC/BS and they said that they turn it around in 3-5 business days so i think your doctors office sat on the paper work. I know mine sure did...crazy.

Hey hon, quick question please? I love this kind of protein smoothie. I'm having one for breakfast right now! So I don't do hemp or flax cuz of the phytoestrogens in them and hormone positive BC...but I do love chia seeds. How do you mix them into your smoothie and how long did you wait before you added them into your smoothie after surgery? Do the seeds give you any kind of problem? (I hate milling/grinding chia seeds and love the kinda agua fresca/bubble tea texture they add to things...) Thanks! -
Nervous!!! I don’t know the insurance decision [emoji20]☹️[emoji17][emoji21]
AskingForAFriend replied to Gretchel Z's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They did the SAME THING TO ME! I had my surgery date 2 months before I got approved. I started this process in September. They did that because they KNOW you'll get approved! What is your insurance? I have BC/BS and they approve everybody! LOL. -
Please help me understand what I'm suppose to be doing..

First thing I'd do is switch from splenda. It's cut with maltodextrin (aka sugar) and has those 2g of carbs. I'd switch to a different coffee that doesn't have carbs. Cuz that's cray cray. Mine has zero just for the brewed coffee. I use liquid stevia (Vitacost brand in the eyedropper bottle), liquid sweet n' low (store brand), Swerve or Truvia (both have zero net carbs). Also, Half n' Half and Cream do have carbs in them, but MFP doesn't observe them. They do add up. My feeling is, if you're drinking your coffee any way but black, then you might as well throw some protein in there too and use Premier Protein drinks as the creamer, cuz then you at least get protein along with the little bits of carbs in the PP drink...it's about the same carbs as from cream or HnH. I'd also switch your preferences in MFP so the carbs and fiber "live" next to each other. It's easier to calculate. Next, I'd do the protein so the first 3 things you track are carbs, fiber, protein. It makes taking net carbs easier. I net which means I subtract my fiber from the total carbs. When I'm not following my crazy rules from the RD/surgeon, I kinda look at splitting my day this way to get about 30g net carbs. Mine naturally will fluctuate between 20-30g net carbs when I'm doing hardcore low carb: Breakfast 5-6g net carbs MS (optional) 1-2g net Carbs Lunch 10-12g net carbs AS (optional) 1-2g net Carbs Dinner 10-12g net carbs BS (optional) 1g net Carbs If I do snacks, then I subtract out 1-2g of carbs from a meal and use them for snacks. That's cuz boiled eggs, cheese, lunch meats, 1/2oz nuts all have slight amounts of carbs: 1-2g per snack size portion. Looks good so far! -
No, I don't have any loose skin, thank goodness. I did not have any type of corrective surgery after my bypass. Just ate like I was suppose to and tried to stay active. My BS said that it all depends on how long your skin had been stretched out while being fat before surgery and your age. I was 36 when i had my surgery and had been overweight for roughly 8 years but I never had a belly or folds. Carried my weight in my boobs and my hips.

I am so emotional-12/5 sleeve
Lainey H replied to TinaW16's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first couple of days at home I was only able to drink 24 to 28 oz of water and they were not happy with me. I was also eating yogurt and protein shake but they were concerned about blood clots and told me to skip yogurt to get more fluids. It’s so tough bc if you wake up a little late or take a nap you are derailed for the day. How much are you getting? It helped me to lay out a schedule for the day to make sure I could meet my 48 oz goal. The other thing that helped was having a small water bottle (8oz) in bed with me when I woke up in the middle of the night. I couldn’t sleep through the night for the first week so drinking for an hour in the middle of the night helped me reach my goal. -
More weight to lose pre op
oky2395 replied to Katybel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought Premier Protein shakes from Sam’s Club. I sipped one in the morning and one in the afternoon. I ate a sensible meal and that is how I lost my pre-op weight. It took a couple weeks but It was about 15 pounds in about three of weeks. I stopped looking at the scale also bc I would get discouraged and just want to quit. -
I’m actually doing surprisingly well to be honest. I’ve been drinking Orgain grass fed protein drink 2-3 times a day. My doctor also allows 4 oz of meat or a starchy vegetable with non starchy veggies and fruit. I just find myself eating a LOT of veggies to keep from getting hungry. I also eat salsa and drink broth in between meals or when Im craving more meat.

So I finally made it to the other side! [emoji3] I had my Gastric Bypass surgery on dec. 5th at 730am, I wanted to share the little experience I had after surgery. So a little history on myself bc this is the part I want to share bc I have read everywhere on the internet about people asking about surgery and Suboxone. I’m a recovering addict, I was a iv drug user. I’ve been clean for 3 1/2 years. I was worried they would not do surgery on me because of my past and bc of the meds I currently take to keep me on the straight and narrow. I searched the internet before I saw my surgeon I worried I wouldn’t be able to have surgery, well there wasn’t a whole lot out there. I told my surgeon and he was luckily aware of what the medication was and how it would affect me, his only demand was that I was actually clean from abusing drugs for two years. Which I was, I switched over to subutex a month prior to surgery. The naloxone in suboxone would have a bad affect with the pain meds given at surgery. I had no problems with the switch over. Prior to surgery I met with anesthesia and they had a plan, they suggested I do the duramorph shot (the shot in your spine), which sadly I denied which I wish I would have done because when I got into recovery immediately after surgery I woke up in extremely bad pain. I was trying to sit up and move and I was yelling in pain.... it freaking hurt!! They were aware of my meds which is very important don’t try to hide it. They spent the whole day trying to make me comfortable. I was on dilaudid, it was till the afternoon they switched me to toroidal that I finally got relief. But I still got up and walked and used washroom. I finally got some rest. The next day I was like a new person. Still sore but my pain was under control. I was never treated any differently, which has always been my worry. I started taking my regular meds the 2nd day, I actually got to go home that evening too. We went home filled my meds, and felt so good to go home. I’m home now and I’m doing well, the only thing that is really bothersome is the drain, I get it and my staples removed on Tuesday. Oh and changing the bandaids that is the worst!! I’m drinking water and on clear liquid diet till Tuesday. If anyone is wanting this surgery and on suboxone and has any questions please feel free to ask me. I can only share my journey and what my experience was but it’s nice to know there is someone out there that you can talk to [emoji3] oh also I have been fine with the pain meds they send u home with. I have only used it twice in the 5 days I’ve been home. So hopefully this helps someone and feel free to ask any questions.

Anyone Have Federal BCBS?

It has been 2 weeks For me tomorrow!!! Still no answer from my insurance. BC/BS Federal. [emoji31] -
I think low carb would be very good for you. Dumping is about sugar not fat. I have been so surprised to learn that over 50% of my calories come from fat. I lose a couple lbs a week. I’m 5 months out. I eat about 30-40g fat a day. I focus on protein, animal and whey (which I can only stand mixed into plain full fat greek yogurt). I only use plant protein in emergencies by keeping protein peanut butter packets in my purse if I am not near any animal protein. I have vegetables including potatoes after I’ve had protein. I eat 1-2 servings of my own granola recipe (2 Oz a serving) made with oats and seeds a day to keep fr9m constipation. Breakfast is a scrambled egg in butter. During the day I eat the mixture of whey (grass fed, plain no sweetener) in full fat plain greek yogurt, with some groundflax seed and a splash of coconut water to help mix it. Dinners are meat with some veg. Fatty meat is fine. Fatty fish, mayo, etc. I eat tons of fat and it’s is very satisfying. No sweet anything - my granola isn’t sweet though it has a bit of maple syrup. And my dessert is 85-90% dark chocolate. Avoiding sweet tasting things is absolutely key for me. No breads or pastas. First 4 months, no fruit. Now I will allow myself onebite of fruit a day, not every day. I’m good without it. I believe that sugar and eating sweet tast8ng things are our downfall. Once those things are out, the cravings are gone.

I really like the Orgain Protein drinks. The Grass fed drinks have 20g protein each. The chocolate flavored is the best.

Question for WLS veterans
JohnnyCakes replied to psyance's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
low carb, yes - good and sustainable. keto? NO. do not start with that. unsustainable, unnecessary, and damaging in the long run. i know you are in ketosis now, largely bc of the sharp calorie decline and your body utilizing so much stored fat for energy. but seriously do not start with the eating 80% fat thing. not because fat is bad for you, it’s not, but because you should not begin ANY eating plan that you can’t sustain for the rest of your life. because guess what happens when you get off of it. yep, weight gain regain. i follow a generally low-carb (under 50g carbs per day), whole foods diet. kinda paleo, kinda Mediterranean, but always REAL FOOD. makes it all quite simple. -

9 weeks pregnant 1 yr after WLS.
TakingMilliBack posted a topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I had a Miscarriage in July and am very excited but still nervous now being 9 weeks pregnant. I have a high risk OBGYN, however she is unfamiliar with pregnancy after WLS. I’ve gotten no support from my surgeons office and am worried about nutrition. I’ve lost almost 4 lbs bc I can’t keep anything down. I was given Zofran but it just makes my stomach cramp and me sicker anyone relate or can give me advise/support? Not sure why the miscarriage happened (6 weeks 4days) but want to do whatever’s in my control for it not happen again and to have a happy healthy baby. Thank you in advance!! -
Hi Fellow sleevers! So happy i found this group! I was Sleeved Nov. 16th. So far so good. I’m down 23 lbs since surgery. I’m in phase 2 (puréed foods) anything is better than phase 1! Still not really hungry. I’ve been eating Grits or puréed soups and still drinking isotech 42 —— it’s sooooo much better than isopure! 🤮. I just hope my weight doesn’t stall bc I’m sure I’m not getting 60-80 grams of protein since I’ve started the puréed foods. I haven’t started hitting the gym yet but today is the day! Wish me luck! No lifting of course. Just light cardio.

I told my struggles about him eating near me to people I know in real life and they said since I was the one deciding to get a sleeve done, then I must be considerate of my boyfriend and let him eat what he want where he want. That I must learn to have self control because it's like a diet... (to which I will say it's complete BS liquid diet isn't like ANY diet I did.). But since it was an opinion from someone I respect I let my boyfriend do what he want and eat whatever. I am having less struggles by the days probably because I know it is soon happening .... It's normally only the week-end anyways as we have different working hours. I know it is like tempting the head hunger but I will count any victories that I can have. -
I've yet to reach my goal and I'm not very far, but I still have like 12 kg to go and people are already telling me I should stop losing weight. I think everyone's shocked about my quick weight loss but years ago when I started to gain and I was at this exact weight people (family specially) used to tell me I should lose a few kg bc I was fat. So why is it different now? I'm decided I want to get to my goal or at least as close as I can. My brain hasn't adjusted to my new body yet and when I go out to buy clothes I always have to downsize the stuff I pick because I see smaller sizes too small for me. So maybe they are right and I'm not seeing it? What do you do when people tell you that you should stop losing?

1 - MSG is not harmful. 2 - i don’t think the egg roll is what’s making you feel ill a day later. if you’re going to react negatively to something bc of your new anatomy, it’ll happen pretty immediately. its more likely you’re getting a stomach bug that’s going around. or maybe there was some sort of spoiled food issue. but i’d bank on the former....

Grocery / eating out expenses decrease significantly?
forgetmenot replied to sleeveme7781's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Eating out- In my job we take guests out to dinner quite a bit. In the departmental budget for next year, I saw the manager decreasing the dining out amount by 20% with "forgetmenot has turned into a cheap dinner date" as the explanation for that line item. Keep in mind most of the reduction probably reflects the dessert and alcohol that I don't order anymore. I still order an appetizer and/or entree, with more than half of it packed up for another meal. Groceries - I haven't seen a big drop because I am buying better quality foods. Grain fed beef, almond flour, protein powder and the like. -
Anyone Have Federal BCBS?
Cynrey replied to sleeveme7781's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Fed BCBS basic. I just got approved and am having my surgery on Wednesday. Their requirements are a BMI of at least 35 or above. If your BMI is over 35 but under 40, then you must have at least 2 comorbities such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, sleep apnea. 40 and above BMI doesn't require any comorbitiy. They require 3 months (in a row) of a supervised diet plan with your physician , a referral and letter of medical neccessity from your physician and a history of obesity. Because of the required 3 month supervised diet it takes at least that long for approval. My gastric surgeon's practice is the one who required the NUT, Physc eval, and a few classes. It sounds daunting, but it wasn't that bad. I started in July and good approved in November. Mine took that long because of the 3 months consecutive appointments that were needed with my doc. Good luck to you !
