  1. I don't particularly care for canned chicken. Smells too much like tuna to me. I found these Tyson Grilled and Ready strips. 19 grams of Protein per 3oz and they taste pretty darn good too! They're soft so they are easy to mush up or chop, and they come in several different flavors (I think there are beef strips as well). Today, I tried the fajita chicken breast strips. Tossed them in some olive oil, peppers and onions. VERY TASTY. http://www.tyson.com/Promotions/Grilled-and-Ready.aspx
  2. Hi all! Have just found this site and I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you. I'm asking for a bit of encouragement. I'm 10 days post op from my gastric sleeve surgery. Doing well at getting in my Protein and my fluids but I am so craving something to eat!!! I am not craving a burger or pizza - just something with a little substance. I am scheduled to go back for my first post-op appt with the nurse practitioner on 1/6 but unless they change their usual post-op plan, I will still have another 2 weeks after that of just liquids before moving to "mushy" foods. I know I can do this but it's a challenge for sure! Any suggestions are welcome. I'm still using the protein supplements that I got from the doctor presurgery and do best with the Soups. I bought some whey powder from Walmart but really don't care for the taste of it. I'm thinking I'm going to try the premade shakes and see if I like them better. I have tried the Atkins shakes in the past and liked them ok but they are more expensive. But it will be worth it if it helps me stick to the liquid phase right?

    RNYTalk iPad App Issues

Thanks Paul. It's good to know that they are aware of the problem and are working on it! I just don't get on as much because of it:( SD: 10/10/12, Converted from Lapband to RNY, HW (before band) 263, HW (RNY) 230, Preop 219, after surgery 223, CURRENT... 190 YIPPEE!!!!
  4. I was banded on 2/13. Just had my first fill this morning. Water went down fine but felt burpy and gurgly. Came home and had 2 cups of Soup with no problem. I am anxious to lose weight and want restriction. My doc said my band was the small AP band that holds up to 10 cc's. He put in 3 cc's for my first fill when I told him I could eat a cadillac on a bun! What is your experience? Marie

    Lap Band-Pseudo Tumor??

Hi, new here, but had to put in my 2 cents. Have had PTC for about 10 years now, diamox, LPs and (unfortunately) loosing weight to within 15 pounds of normal/goal did not help,I have been shunted with multiple revisions. I have also unfortunately regained most of the weight lost, leading to my decision to get banded. After 3 attempts to be approved for the band I was successful in getting approved and was banded on June 1 so am still early in my band journey. Honestly my hopes are to improve my overall health, if my PTC were to stabilize that would be a bonus, but I am not optomistic. I am really curious to hear other peoples experience and outcomes. Good luck to all who suffer the PTC beast.
  9. I am wondering the same thing. My surgery is June 8 and my son is graduating university on June 15th. My problem is that the ceremony is 2 hours away and my son needs to be there 2 hours before it starts. The ceremony is for several programs and could last 3-4 hours. That could mean it will be a 10 hour day away from home one week after surgery. My surgery was booked for several months before we knew the graduation date and cannot be changed now as it took a lot of planning to get time off work.
  10. My liquid diet starts this money. My meal plan is 4 shakes a day (which I took a sip of muscle milk and wanted to gag) and I am allowed to have vegetables with a 10 calorie dressing. And broth. Any ideas on things to eat that taste good and are allowed? Pre op recipes if you will and any shakes that actually are tolerable. Thanks in advance..
  11. My name is Haley. I'm 19 years old and I got the vertical sleeve gastrectomy on October 22. My surgeon was Dr. Boorse at the Lehigh Valley Hospital in Pennsylvania. I choose to get the surgery because I have dealt with my weight all my life. I tried taking diet pills, did weight watchers and so on. But I always seemed to gain the weight back. What really hit me and made me choose to get the surgery would be my doctor telling me I was at a high risk for a heart attack. It made me think do I want to have a heart attack at the age of 19? So from then on I decided to change my life to a healthier life style than what I was use to. My highest weight was 265 pounds. The day of surgery I weighed in at 245 and as of today I weigh 180 pounds.
  12. Maybe your husband could be a little more sensitive and not eat them around you. Atleast during your early stages here where you haven't broken your bad eating habits and you are still learning how to eat with the band. I am lucky because even though my husband is thin, he prefers to eat healthy, which makes it easier for me. I'm only 10 days banded and just started mushies. But I didn't go through this surgery to not be successful. So good luck to you. Take care of yourself.
  13. I make butternut squash soup One squash cubed 3 apples peeled and cubed 1 small onion 1 can of low sodium vegetable stock Cook on low until soft Then with a hand mixer to purée right in the pot. If you don't have one of the high speed hand mixers, transfer to a food processor or blender. Then back in the soup pot add 2 Tbsp of reduced fat peanut butter 1/4 cup of lime juice 1/2 cup of fresh cilantro (chopped) I just use scissors Cook for 10 more minutes and your all set.. Easy and so good Hardest part is cutting the squash so I buy the precut if my hubby's not around ... Enjoy!

  18. Hi Guys, I'm 19 days Post -OP had some complications with dehydration and was admitted after the second week. Spent another week in the hospital getting fluids. I had a follow up appointment yesterday and was put on puréed foods. OMG!! My fist stop was Taco Bell for some refried beans. As soon as I ate it I threw up none stop. I tired different puréed foods but I can't keep anything down. So I'm back on liquids the only thing that seems to agree with me right now. I was really looking forward to starting puréed foods but it's been a nightmare all I do it vomit until I'm throwing up bile. My doctor did explain I have a tight sleeve considering my stomach was already pretty small. Has anyone struggled with this will I ever be able to eat solids , soaps or anything anymore? I'm scared.

I am sorry you are going through all of this, I can relate. The best advice I can give you is be kind to yourself, keep up with or increase your exercise and drink drink drink drink!!!! You will be too busy peeing to eat!!! If the worst case scenario happens and you gain 10, 20, 30 pounds, it just means your band has been working the way it should and it is on vacation. When your rest break is over and you get the band functioning again you will simply become a bandster again and will lose the gained weight. Hang in there. I wish you well,Mimi
  20. Well, I am happy to say that when i did my morning weigh in today I am at 205....that is 50 pounds down from my starting point!!!! (19 pre-surgery, 31 after). I am so excited, I have officially lost more than my 4 year old weighs. My kids and I tried imaging me walking around with my little one strapped to me! 6 more pounds until I am in the onederland club!! Another 50 pounds till I hit my goal!!!
  21. My surgeon told me research shows only 5% of patients make it to goal weight. And to remember the surgery is only a tool. The sleeve will help you loose 60-80% of your excess weight. He also told me to set small goals(ie. 10 lbs or 15 lbs a month) and do not think this is the "cure all". I wouldn't stress over lbs and time limits, you don't want to become discouraged.
  22. I was banded on 8/19/09 and until yesterday would been able to tell you I'd never been stuck. But yesterday, it happened to me. I hadn't eaten much but what I did eat didn't want to go down. I've had 5 fills and I'm at 7.5cc.

    Anyone never gotten stuck?

I too had my surgery on February 10, 2009, and have never been stuck. After my last fill I've had increased discomfort from eating too fast, but that's all. Debbie

    Not losing very much

I gained 5 pounds after surgery. It took me a week to lose that! I felt (and sometimes feel) the same way. I just thought the weight would "melt" off these first 6 months. Now, my doctor and support team have told me over and over that it is a process and that surgery is a tool to help you. I work out 5 to 6 days a week and still (Just over 2 months out) can't eat very much. I went for 2 and a half weeks with NO loss. Then the next week I lost 10 pounds. I am also just under 4 months out from having a baby. NO clue if that plays into it or not. This woman that came into my office lost 63 pounds in 7 weeks. I was so jealous. I am now losing anywhere from 2 to 4 pounds a week now (most weeks). I feel this is pretty good for me. Usually my weight loss levels off after 2 months so I am keeping it going. Hoping to be at goal weight by 1 year mark. Good luck!
