Yes there is the 2-3 week stall, don’t worry , the scale will drop big very soon. It still is not very cooperative I’ve found - I will work out , drink liquids and nada. My nut says that when I lose weight the fat cells fill with water for a time a she said use cucumber water to flush out cells .. like a natural diuretic. But at the start ur body is super confused so don’t fret - it doesn’t know if it’s in a famine or what . Just stay the course , walk as much as you can , and drink ur liquids .

Weight loss after sleeve
Christinamo7 replied to Lucilla's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
this is so fabulous it deserves repeating. Based on your topic I was willing to jump on board and give my own experiences... basically I agree with everyone else. Your journey is YOURS. Try not to compare to others, as everyone is different. Also, I too was going to tell you about the 3 week stall (and 6 week, and 12 week if you are like me). You are losing, and that is a huge positive to look at. Pretty consistent with what everyone else is saying. However, what I really want to comment on now is your above post. Please remember that *YOU* initiated the discussion by posting to an open forum. That means you wanted people to respond to you. You don't get to choose what those responses have to say. You don't have to agree with them, but you did solicit them. If you don't want to hear what people have to say then perhaps you should stick to reading the boards to garner your information and refrain from asking questions of which you might not like the responses. Just my 2 cents. yes. THIS. -

Weight not going down
tabula replied to graziellabs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't tell you how many times I felt just like you. You'll see a lot of responses about a 3 week stall, which I guess is pretty common. I didn't experience it at week 3 but I can tell you I have on many other weeks. It is super discouraging but just know the weight will come off and sometimes it's inches not just weight. So easy to say so hard to live through. I'd eat less and stall, i'd work out and stall, I'd eat more and lose I wouldn't work out and lose. I'm sure there is a bunch of science and explanations but understand weight loss is not linear. I'm 20 weeks out and have had a ton of ups and downs but down a good amount of weight, slowly losing but clothes fit so much better, tempted to go shopping but still have 40lbs to lose. Hang in there, don't get discourage, keep following your plan and you'll lose a gain, I promise. BTW - losing 32lbs is awesome! Congrats! -
my 3 week stall is annoying me

I'm on my 3 week stall too, and it's such a bummer. Knowing that everyone says it's normal doesn't make it feel any better! -
Need encouragement during stall
dukegal1213 replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Stalls are part of the process. The only reason you would want to consult your doctor is if you have one that lasts 4 weeks. 2 week-3 weeks stalls are not uncommon after gastric bypass. I have had 2 stalls: one lasted about 3 weeks. The other lasted for about 2 weeks. Follow the eating plan carefully, perhaps up your protein intake, drink more water if possible, exercise more if you can. -
hey everyone. i had gastric bypass on march 3rd. I noticed that ever since surgery, every 3rd week I would stop losing weight for an entire week and then it would start dropping again. I am down 40 lbs so far but the last 3 weeks I havent lost a thing. Is this normal? I am getting nervous that Im doing something wrong

3 week post op loss ?
biginjapan replied to snapy17's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's probably the dreaded 3-week stall, although I have never heard of any plan allowing rice or bread, especially this early. I'm also 3 weeks post op and haven't lost for over 10 days now - all I have lost post op is 11 pounds. The only carbs I get are from almond/soy milk, and tofu occasionally when I add it to a shake. -

I had my surgery almost a month ago
spowell replied to Polarbearwifey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you for reminding me of the 3 week stall. I am almost 1.month out and I quit weighing myself. It would just disappoint me. I can tell that I am losing inches. My husband and some friends can tell especially in my face. Thank you! Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App -
I'm in Plano and had my surgery on Oct. 22, 2012 at Baylor Trophy Club - had to go there because of insurance requirements. I had a 3 week stall after surgery but the scale has finally started moving again this week. I've lost 31 pounds total, including weight lost pre-op.

I am on a 3 week stall at 3 months out. Does stress play a role on our weight loss? I have been under a huge amount of stress since before Christmas. I'm still not over eating or anything and yes I could eat cleaner but my calorie intake is still very low.

My weight loss has been slow, too. In fact, I had a 3 week stall only one week after surgery. My NUT told me that people lose at different rates. Some people's insides take longer to heal than others. Sometimes it takes longer for some people to get over the shock of the surgery to their bodies. It is important not to compare your weight loss to others. Each journey will be different. The important thing to concentrate on is getting in your liquids and Protein and to exercise as much as you are able. The weight loss may be slower at first, but will eventually move right along. It is hard to get everything in at first, but is so important to the healing process. I was getting in 60 grams of protein each day; my NUT wants me to try to get in around 75. It is hard when we have waited so long for this tool. It is hard when we see others report great weight loss in the first month or so after surgery. Nevertheless, each journey is as different as each person taking it. The tool has proved itself to be useful and reliable. Hang in there! And if you need to step away from the scale for a bit - do so. Good luck on your journey!

3 wks post op VGS, Hungry, Hungry and still Hungry
teacupnosaucer replied to Chris Lee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I second the question about acid reducers. I'm on pantaloc twice daily and if I miss a dose I feel like I am FAMISHED. lying awake at night wanting to eat, which is something I didn't even do when I was fat! if you're already tracking your food (good for you on that one btw!), then maybe now is the time to start paying attention to your protein intake as well. your nut may have told you not to worry about it, but protein is essential for healing and it keeps you full longer too. also, when you say "h20" do you mean plain water, or do you mean "diet iced tea" or "water with crystal light" etc etc? because artificial sweeteners like that are known to cause food cravings in some people. if I have sugar free drinks of any kind I ALWAYS wind up snacking afterwards, often doing that bad thing where I'm going to the pantry over and over never satisfied by what I'm taking out to eat. those three things would be my suggestions to start with. now as to the NUMBERS side of the equation... consider the fact that you are a low BMI already. our weight loss will be slower than people with more to lose. "only" down 22 pounds in two months works out to 2.75 lbs a week on average. that's REALLY not that bad of a weight loss, especially for someone with a BMI of 33. adjust your expectations a little! whenever I'm mad about the scale not moving I remind myself "when's the last time I lost 3 lbs a week for two months straight on Weight Watchers (my pre-surgery diet of choice)" OH YEAH, NEVER. that NEVER EVER HAPPENED. I think the dazzling successes we see with weight loss surgery can make us a little greedy and 'NOW NOW NOW' rather than remembering what things were like before and how much better we're doing now than we ever did then. compare yourself to yourself and leave everyone else's numbers out of it. also, since you're three weeks out, I will remind you that "the 3 week stall" is infamous for a reason. don't let it psyche you out or get you down. plateaus are a natural, healthy part of the process. just keep on chugging, and one day the scale will move. -
When are the "typical" stalls?
Kindle replied to LivingLight's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Stalls happen anytime, anyplace and last for any length of time. Other than the infamous 3 week stall I don't think there is a pattern. And, BTW, a loss of 1.4 pounds is not a stall. The fact that you are measuring tenths of a pound suggests to me up you are too obsessed with the numbers. Relax, enjoy the journey, count your NSV's, explore some new recipe ideas and stay off scale for awhile. I guarantee you will keep losing if you are eating on plan. -
I had my surgery one week after you. I just came off a 3 week stall and am so excited to be losing again. When you say your weight loss is very slow what do you mean. I'll be 10 weeks out this week and have lost 39.5 pounds. That 3 weeks of not losing definitely had made a difference. Still it is 40 lbs and my clothes are all getting baggy. We all drop weight differently. Does your Dr feel it's a problem? In order to get your protein in try having a 30g Protein Drink for Breakfast. That should ramp up your protein. I put 1/2 of a frozen banana in my chocolate Premier Protein from costco in my nutribullet with 3 ice cubes and I love it. Keep up the good work!!

February 9Th Sleevers...how Are You All Doing?
goldenraisin214 replied to kimmy*custis's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
2/9 sleever here. I'm down 26.6 total (gotta count that 0.6!) and 22.6 since surgery. Feeling pretty good, but the scale didn't move last week (I weigh in on Thursdays since the surgery was on a Thursday). Hopefully things will change soon, but I didn't have the 3 week stall, so I guess at 6 weeks it was just running a little late! Thanks for starting a check in, glad you're doing well and losing like a champ! -
Too many stalls, sigh!
Mountaingal replied to leag78's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Just ended a 3 week stall here. You are right Inner Surfer Girl about the complexities of the human body. So we all hang in there, eat right, drink enough Fluid and exercise and have faith one day that scale will move down again. While we wait we look for NSV's. Not making any weight loss related goals here just trying to believe if I work the program it will happen..in it's own time. -
Hit the 3 weeks stall but at not quite 4 weeks I'm 30+ pounds from down from my heaviest and pant size 18 down to 14

4-month surgiversary
jinxxy5 replied to laffypatty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 3.5 months out and I've lost 51 pounds since surgery 10/2 and 61 pounds since my preop appt 9/23. I started pretty slow but my weight loss has been picking up as of late. I have to admit the 2 and 3 week stalls really test your mind and spirit. I just usually curse at the scale and wait it out! LOL! SW:263 CW: 212 GW:150-160 (I plan to go into maintenance mode between 155-160 then have plastics) -
Help! 3 weeks out and I've stopped losing weight
Aychee replied to TynMcsMom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Wow-thank you for posting this about the 3 week mark! I am 4 weeks out as of this past Thursday and I too fell victim to the 3 week stall. Since then, I managed to lose another 2lbs. I think unfortunately it is also so easy to fall victim to the scale. Glad I found this group as I need to learn a lot! -
Stalling Already :(
MommyTawnie replied to SkinnyHereICome's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I to had the 3 week stall and it was a bit frustrating, but around 4 1/2-5 week the weight started coming off. Then around 6 weeks I stalled again for a week, but now it's a pretty steady loss every week.. I can't believe I am almost 10 weeks out.. I've done good and lost during the 10 weeks 50lbs!!!
