I love my genepro...assuming the claims are correct, which may not be clear. Basically, they claim that the protein they process is more easily absorbed than standard whey protein. Therefore 1 scoop is "equivalent" to 30g of whey protein as far as you body is concerned. I opened up the package and saw the small scoop and was like "There is no way that is 30g!". I really like the product and it seems to be working for me and my wife. I'm going to see my NUT this week so I may ask about their opinion.

7 weeks post op and not hungry
Mel36695 replied to jenngraham9's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
90% of my hunger is "head hunger." I'm 2 weeks post OP and rarely feel true hunger (the stomach growling, aching hunger, the way hunger is SUPPOSED to feel when it is real). As far as protein, I'm getting plenty!!! I highly recommend a tasteless powder by "Genepro: next generation protein powder." The scoop is much smaller and you get a full 30 grams of protein. Plus it's less calories than most: 60 calories. I even put a scoop in my water, for real. I taste a hint of it but it is a clean, very mild taste. Add it to your broth if you're drinking that. You might try that. Powdered skim milk, peanut butter powder. Oikos zero Greek yogurt. All good options! Sent from my SM-G892U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I had a VSG on 01/06/23. I loss 38 lbs since the pre-op liquid phase. I consume 800-1000 calories a day and aim for 80+ grams of protein a day. I feel good. I haven't had any issues with any foods. Well except that I cannot tolerate protein shakes at all so I rely on protein rich foods. I can also tolerate unflavored Genepro in my Crystal Light and some protein bars.

So I'm on the puréed/soft phase and made several recipes I saw on here and they have been great. But today I made one myself.... chicken artichoke spinach cups 1 -12 oz can of chicken breast 1/2 cup quartered artichokes (chop fine) 1 tbs minced garlic Pepper to taste 1 cup spinach raw (chopped fine) 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese 1/2 cup light sour cream 1 scoop GENEPRO Protein powder Heat the chicken in a skillet and make sure it's shredded. Add garlic and chopped up artichokes (I use a food processor). Then add chopped spinach and mix well. While heating, mix parm cheese, Protein Powder and sour cream (I use a food processor). Remove chicken mix from heat, stir in cheese mixture. Once well combined, place 1/2 cup mixture into lined muffin pan...repeat for total of 4 muffin cups. You can eat it fresh or freeze for 3 hrs and remove, placing each in freezer bag. Then reheat as needed. Each muffin cup is a serving: 206 cal, 30g protein, 8g fat, 5g carbs It was so yummy!

Why are all "diet" supplements marketed like candy?
laceemouse replied to Didjit's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Didjit, Be careful buying ahead too much. Most of WLS peeps have their taste change after their Surgery. Agreed. I am one week post-op tomorrow and I am so sick of sweet I could puke. And I DID used to love sweets. I am going out for GENEPRO and Fair Life milk tomorrow. I can't wait to eat eggs, meat, cheese, nuts......oh my it is driving me batty!! -

Protein Supplements are gross, HELP!
Sunnyway replied to jaznova's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There are many brands of protein shakes and powders and each of them offer many flavors. Just do a google search to see what is out there. The prices varies from reasonable to ridiculously expensive, so shop around. Many can be found at Walmart or ordered online from the manufacturers or Amazon. My clinic recommends these brands (but I've tried many others): Premier Protein Ensure Max Equate High Performance Atkins Plus Musle Milke Genuine, Muscle Milk Light Boost Max Fair Life Core Power There are even high protein soup powders from ProtiDiet and Bariatric Advantage, and others. The variety is vast. Some you will like, some you won't. If you don't like something today, try it again in a week. You can also make your own high protein shakes. There are lots of recipes online, using unflavored whey protein powder mixed with milk or water, like GenePro I prefer plant-based unflavored powder, Like Orgain or Pure Protein. You can add protein powder to just about any liquid, even your coffee or tea or bullion. -
Protein Supplements are gross, HELP!
Esi replied to jaznova's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
True, tastes change after surgery. I used Genepro and added it to a bit of Crystal Light. Sweets were gross at first. Bone broth helped. If it makes you feel better for the time being, I couldn’t keep much down for weeks (vomiting), including protein, but I made it through. So if you are in contact with your surgeon, a temporary delay in protein is doable till you make it to soft foods. GL! -
Any August 31st Sleevers?
banded2004 replied to dorothy510's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
An easy way to get your protein in is to use Genepro protein powder. 30gm per tbsp! Tasteless and mixes with hot or cold. I buy mine on Amazon. -
Genepro. Stay away
Christina.Rose replied to bossportsgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone! The opinions on Genepro are so polarized its interesting. I think I will use it, assume its 20g instead of 30g and when I am allowed to eat meat, be grateful for not being stuck drinking any shakes! -
Genepro. Stay away
JerseyJules replied to bossportsgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My NUT recommended Genepro and I think its just fine. Its plain unflavored protein powder without all the flavorings and additives in the other flavored brands. Which could lead to the smaller serving size delivering the same protein. Im not skeptical at all and there are no real scientific facts disproving their claim. -
Tip: I was using this until I read on this site that NUTs don't advise it. That it's not possible to have 30g of protein in 1 tbl as they suggest. I spoke to my nutritionist and she said same thing to stay away. Thanks Nancy

Isopure vs. Premier Clear?
wjgo replied to Sprinkles1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I found the Premier Bananna & Cream to be much, much better. I detest their Vanilla flavor, it dies not suit my stomach well. Becareful with done of the Ensure drinks, some of them have high sugar content, at least for my program. You program probably allows you to have sugar free jello and pudding. Mix some chocolate pudding up with Fair Life milk (lots protein) and a couple of flavorless 30gr protein mix serving scoops. I use Genepro protein from local GNC store. Jello Pudding box says 4 servings, so it comes out to 15gr protein per serving, and with Fair Life milk, 21 grams. Regular milk totals it to 19 grams. 1 week post op protein problems....
BLERDgirl replied to 2bullymom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's not usual to feel tired this soon after surgery. This is why it is advised to take at least 2 weeks off. Some of us bounce back quickly, others don't. There really isn't anyway to tell beforehand. Hopefully you are still taking your Vitamins and supplements. If protein powders are a challenge, focus on at least getting in your fluids. If you get dehydrated you will feel worse. Lastly keep calling your doctor's office. You need to touch base with him if you are feeling poorly. The noises will go away eventually. Some tummies just like to gurgle. You should be following your nutritionist recommended diet. If cheese and pureed Soups is on your menu then enjoy! I was having cheese and pureed soups within the first 2 weeks because it was allowed on my full liquid stage. I have yet to have a problem eating/drinking anything. I agree Genepro appears to be using some sort of pseudo science. I know it's popular, but I would personally shy away from it. -
1 week post op protein problems....
Stevehud replied to 2bullymom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
genepro is a joke. its a lie they tell you to use much less Protein saying that their blend is like getting 30 grams of protein but they are saying that as if you cant absorb protein which isnt true so genepro right of is a very very bad idea it doesnt give you anywhere near enough protein which is probably why your body is starving itself along with dehydration. please do not rely on the GENEPRO or at least put in three to four times as much as it calls for. -
48 hours afterwards. Was it a mistake?
rubia72 replied to GinaCampbell's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Genepro is unflavored and saved my life after surgery since I was unable to tolerate any protein shakes after surgery. -
The best time is when you will do it. As noted, with all of the conflicting research of varying quality, it's hard to tell what time is better, if any at all, or if that view will change over time. Further, what research there is on exercise is rarely focused on us - the obese and recovering obese, so there is another variable that throws everything into question. Exercising at a sub-optimal time is better than not exercising at the optimal time. This is somewhat similar to my advice on protein drinks - while whey isolate is generally considered to be the most available and absorbable form, the one that you will drink is better than the best thing out there that you won't drink (with the possible exception of Genepro, which only seems to be good for making expensive urine.)

Ask your doctor about GENEPRO Protein, I tried a sample from them of their ultra refined powder and mixed it in with everything from hot tea and coffee to Peanut Butter and cream cheese on a cracker. It literally has no taste and doesn't mess with the consistency of things, but I have a hard time buying that its protein content is as high as it claims. I haven't asked my doc about it yet but will see him in late December so if you see yours first, go for it. Try it out too, you can get a little sample pack from them for like 1.50 on amazon it has a lot of great reviews and only one or two not so great.

Mixing protein powder
MissKay replied to charley27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My go-to (because I cannot stand the taste of any flavored regular whey or protein powder) is mixing Genepro (unflavored) with vanilla almond milk and sugar-free chocolate syrup. I use a Blender Bottle to mix it, and it's never thick. I use about 6 to 8oz of the almond milk, a squeeze of the chocolate, a serving of Genepro, and then shake, shake, shake! -

Unflavored protein powder recommendation
OKCPirate replied to nrg33's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I'll find out more tomorrow when Amazon's drone delivers it, but here is the most interesting thing I could find on the product on the web...It arrived last week, and it is flavorless. Mixes well with yogurt, half a scoop dissolves nicely in my coffee. Finally able to boost my protein levels to where they need to be. My hair is not falling out like it was. So I'm sticking with this stuff. I was poking around on the web about this and found this on one of the body building boards: LARGEbagFrontWEB.jpgHey there guys. I am the Doctor/Genetic Bio-Scientist that invented GENEPRO and am the owner of Musclegen Research. Serving size is 1 Tablespoon = 30g of Protein.. Here is a little about the product and the difference between Genepro and any other protein on the market. We are working with bodybuilding.com to carry Genepro as well as out other products.. What makes Genepro so unique is that we are able to reduce the protein molecule to half the size of normal protein through a process called Electrophoresis. This is a reverse electrical polarity method of extracting pure protein. In essence we take protein molecules that, for reference, are the size of a baseball. We push these baseball sized protein molecules through a Polyacrylamide gel (the gel stays below 87 degrees F) and introduce electricity through the gel. This process removes hydrogen ions, allergens and any fillers or binders so we are able to then bind the protein with a strand of six amino acids called a Hexapeptide which stabilizes the molecular structure. This hexapeptide increases shelf life of the protein as well as balancing the bitter taste that is present with the protein after electrophoresis and actually gives the protein a slightly sweet undertone. The protein is pushed through a filtration system and into a centrifuge which results in a pure protein molecule that is now the size of a golf ball (for reference). You may not be able to fit 30 baseballs into a shoe box but you can fit 30 golf balls. Thus giving us the ability to get 30grams of protein in a 1TBS serving size. This process also changes the caloritic count as well to 3.2 calories per gram of protein. The process as well at the hexapeptide are patent pending and have never been used before in nutrition (it's a genetic process that is used primarily in forensic science). The other interesting fact is that most protein supplements digest in the lower GI and whey is absorbed at only 31% so if you're "taking" 30g of whey, your body is only taking in 9g. Genepro is digested in the upper GI which eliminates gluten, lactose and bowel sensitivity and absorbs at a rate of 94% which makes it 3 times more effective than any other protein on the planet (medical or open market). Flavorless and odorless and can be mixed instantly in any food or beverage (hot or cold) without changing the taste or consistency. Truly the most complex and advanced protein on the planet. Each 1pound container comes with 3 empty, re-useable travel pouches that make it super convenient to use anytime, anywhere and in anything. -

Best Unflavored Protein
busybeebug replied to khope's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Genepro is my go to. Mixed in thin cold drinks for me doesn't work. I love it in hot tea with milk and sugar. It mixes well in V8 or tomatoes juice. I put it in eggs, oatmeal and yogurt too. -
I bought some really good creamed soups like cream of tomato, potato leek, and broccoli. They had no chunks and were velvety. I would add a scoop (which is about 1 Tablespoon) of Genepro protein (it is unflavored and 1 little scoop has 30 grams of protein) It made things much better. I don't like sweet drinks so I always hated the protein shakes.
