Things I won't miss about being fat!
RhondaHigdon replied to ChubRub's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
i can relate to each and every person that has stated all the reasons I won't miss about being fat and I know this is absolutely TMI, but I hated using the bathroom because I can't get to myself to clean myself properly without having to get back in the shower once again. -
3 days post-op -- question about bowels
Katiebal_Lecter replied to xoxomaya's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I just had my surgery on 12/17. I was five days post op when I had my BM. My doctor said no Fiber for the first three months, but if I needed help “going” to take miralax. (TMI but my first BM was entirely made up of blood- surgeon said it was normal. Sorry if that’s tmi, but I was totally taken by surprise and would like other people to know that it happens.) -
TMI bloody stool, is it normal?
Katiebal_Lecter posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is about pooping, so if you’re grossed out by stuff like that please just scroll past this. I’m 5 days post op (lap band to gastric bypass) and finally had a bowel movement, my concern is that it was completely bloody. Not just like little drops here or there, but it seemed the turd was formed out of pure blood. I know a lot has gone on with my internal plumbing because of the surgery, but I am concerned. Has anyone had personal experience with this or know of any resources that might alleviate my concerns? I’ve already put a note in to my surgeon, but I want to see what “the people” have experienced. Thanks in advance for any information. -
Stall, hair loss and other changes (warning, TMI)
LAJ23 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, I recently posted about hair loss. While I'm not happy that this is a side effect, it's comforting to know that some of you have gone thru this as well, and for most, your hair grew back. I'm taking all kinds of supplements in addition to the "regular" vitamins required post-op. I've added liquid iron, prenatal vitamins, biotin, and collagen. The first question is about stalling - again. I've been bouncing between 181-184 for over a month now. I'm not eating much due to the discomfort (I posted about this also). I'm desperately trying to get my protein in, but I simply can't eat enough to do that. I'm also taking the Unjury powder (which I can barely tolerate due to the taste even though I mix it into food/liquid), but still can't get anywhere near what I'm supposed to. I'm supposed to be getting in 60g-86g protein/day. Unjury only accounts for 22g/day. I can only eat enough to get about 40g-50g/day. My doctor is aware. How do I kickstart this weight loss again? Secondly (sorry to the men in the group), I'm 48 and suddenly started getting my period again. I'm on a medication that is supposed to stop it completely due to a previous medical issue, but obviously, something has changed so much with my body, that the medication, which has been effective for several years, is no longer working. I emailed my dr. and she started me on estrogen for 10 days but isn't sure why the previous medication stopped working. Have any of you ladies had this issue? -
Let’s talk poop strategy
Spiderbaby289 replied to Betty1971's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The same here. All my doctor said was it was too common do not worry. This next part is TMI (sorry but honest) I did have to get the intima and suppositories'. It did not work all that well but enough I could get in the bath (yea I know Gross) but when you are hurting and desperate you do desperate things. So long story short when I finally got the hard rocks out and I mean hard! I take a stool softener and Miralax twice a day with my protein shakes. The Miralax only worked on the new digestion and same with the stool softener I had to get the hard rocks out to clear the path. Once that happen and I started taking Miralax it has been so much better. Sorry for the candidness but I found that most people sugar coat it and that was not what I needed I needed help -
TMI- Frequent Bowel Movement
ChubRub replied to DallasRicky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There's no TMI around here! We talk about poop a lot! LOL!!! -
Hello! I am 4 months post-op. My stools are mushy and frequently after my meals. Do I need more fiber to harden them a little and give them shape? How do I poop less?

Duodenal switch -Do you physically feel different and what about sex?
NovaLuna replied to Notwhatyousee's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I can definitely tell I had surgery because I can't eat very much and for some reason really only feel hungry in the morning. Despite the fact I had the Loop DS and was told you don't get dumping syndrome they LIED because wheat makes me dump. I don't really get diarrhea unless I eat too much sugar alcohol (and get REALLY bad gas from it too so I avoid the sugar alcohol as much as I can) but my body DOES decide about 2-3 days a week to completely empty itself so you're in the bathroom for a WHILE (TMI, sorry). I'm a stomach and side sleeper and have no issues with sleeping like that nor does it hurt though I can definitely tell my intestines have been messed with when I have my bathroom trips, but outside of that l don't notice a difference. As to the bathroom thing... in the beginning food went right through me, but my system got used to it and now I usually only go #2 every other day or every 2 days, the problem with that is that my system decides 90% of the time that when I DO go I have to empty everything in me so you're are definitely in there for a while. And sometimes will have to go back for a return trip 1/2 an hour to an hour later. But the funny thing is my system is pretty much regular and this always happens around the same time of day. The surgery was one of the best things I ever did for myself and I'm glad I made the choice to have it done. Knowing what I know if I'd had to do it all over, I would. -
I’ve had very dark green almost black very sticky bowel movements since my surgery on Nov 17 Talked to surgeon yesterday he said sounds like old blood from surgery and didn’t seemed to be concerned. I asked him when should I be concerned and he said if it doesn’t clear up by one more week. Anybody else have this issue? How long did yours last?

Help after Dumping still sick 20 hours later
NewWorldMe posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yesterday I had a dumping incident after eating a bit of spicy Indian chicken to fast. It was about 30 grams. I became violently ill and (tmi) I felt like my stomach and intestines were being torn in half. This was 20 hours ago. Today i cannot hold anything down. Protein shakes, protein yogurt, protein crackers, rice cakes (advised by my nutritionist) come back up. I am only able to tolerate 0% sugar applesauce and water. Has anyone experienced this? Has anyone experienced not having a sufficient amount of protein. How negative can this impact my weightloss? -
Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?
FireEMT710 replied to Lanie Hardy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on Monday... everything went fine, I slept a lot the first 2 days, and really until about 1-2 on the 3rd day. It was like a switch flipped. I'm still in pain when moving, but not constant pain. Was sent home with Hycet, Zofran, and Pepcid. One thing I learned, do not trust a fart. TMI, I know... but seriously. Today things are going ok... kids are gone to their grandparents for Thanksgiving, so I'm just relaxing and will probably do that the rest of the day! -

Backstory- bypass was almost 2 years ago. No complications and took reflux meds for 1-2 months post op as procedure. I had plastic surgery in Feb and had some reflux a few days later (I thought this wasn't possible with bypass but assumed maybe from local swelling and irritation form being intubated). The surgeon had me back on the meds for 1-2 months. It seemed to have gone away until October. It's not bad just that I feel/hear a sensation like bubbles pop almost like drinking carbonated soda (which I haven't touched in over 2 years). So the surgeon has me start them back 2 weeks ago. Here's the scary part. Yesterday morning I drank my protein drink as always and after about 30 min. I had a ache dull pain in-between my should blades. I have already had my gallbladder removed years ago before bypass surgery. The ache goes away and I eat normal foods, no issues except once in awhile during the day I get a very dull ache between my should blades. Then last night I was eating some crackers and got the pain worse but not unbearable but really uncomfortable. I woke up hours later at 3am with the back pain. I had a normal BM and later spit up the foamies/salvia and a threw up little bit of the crackers. Side note-- TMI I have been a little more constipated occasionally so I did have a BM before bed and in the middle of the night. Not diarrhea so I am assuming there's no blockage. I was able to fall back asleep and feel ok this morning just tired from being up for 2 hours. I have had the throwing up foamies maybe 5 times since surgery. I am hoping this is just a random thing. I have been drinking my protein shake slowly without issue this morning. I called the surgeon and they said to stay on liquids for 24-48hours to give my system a rest. Of course I google the symptoms and am now trying not to freak out. If I had a blockage I would assume I would be throwing up my shake now and not have had a BM last night. I am def. not bloated. The office said to go to the ER if it gets worse. Why does this have to happen right before a holiday when no offices are open?? I am trying not to worry that this is just one of those random things that happens to us. I don't have any fever, elevated heart rate etc.

I am having the same issue, I tried refried beans and it got stuck (TMI I puked it later)

I just did yesterday after taking dulcolax. I’d went like 6 days. Sleeved 11/3. It’s been pure liquid since. TMI but just needed the dulcolax to move the last remaining solids from my system from pre op. I lost 2 lbs just from the BM for a total of 11 lbs the first week.

I've felt super full before and have thrown up a bit but this was my first time fully dumping. I got all the symptoms *tmi* i was sitting on the toilet with diarrhea while throwing up in the trash can. Shakes, flushed, heart rate at 135. All this because I ate 1 sweet and sour chicken ball and a egg roll. I feel like death. Sent from my SM-G973W using BariatricPal mobile app

Am i gonna puke all the time??
2Bsmaller18 replied to FINFAN3DP's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I HATE puking. I dread it so much that If I had morning sickness during pregnancy I would have never gotten pregnant again after my first child. That being said I have gotten sick maybe 4-5 times in almost 2 years. The first 2 times was early on and was a learning curve into what eating too fast or too much the other 2 I think I didn't chew enough or it was random. I felt nauseated but it wasn't puking like before surgery. TMI Some people describe it as foam but I had excessive drool/spit about 30-60 minutes after eating too much/too quickly and had this excess salvia that I spit out multiple times over a half hour and then a few bigger spit ups of food and salvia almost like a infant and I felt better almost instantly. -
I'm a week and three days out of surgery, and four days away from broth and rice water. POTATOES. I feel bad as it's my partner's birthday but I'll be just waiting for my dietitian to say "yes potatoes" as my first check-in is that day too XD Other than that, I feel okay? Some pain in the suture where my stomach was removed (TMI) but the gas has finally gone thankfully. Still some pain when I sleep but I think it's just because I am a very on-stomach or the side-sleeper. Happy to hear of everyone's success so far!

So I am 3 weeks post op bypass. I had hives really bad a week ago all over my legs my doctors didnt know why. Then for the past few days I have been having really watery diarrhea. Tuesday was bad. Yesterday wasnt as bad and this morning I had to go a few times and I didnt even eat anything. I'm barely eating yet. My doctor is wondering if I maybe took too much miralax. I took a cap full Sunday night and then Monday morning which is what my doctorrecommended. I'm concerned this is going to be a constant thing. I'm afraid to eat. Im trying to go back to work but having to go to the bathroom pretty regularly isnt helping. If I am with a client I can't just stop what I'm doing. Protein shakes seem to make go as well. I am drinking lactose free shakes so I don't think it could be lactose intolerance. Anyone else have this? Anything help make you regular? My doctor suggested probiotics so I started them today. I'm desperate to get rid of the diarrhea. Sent from my SM-A102U using BariatricPal mobile app

Pain, Poop, Tingly Arms, & Gas - 3 days post op
samiaam25 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This will be a post full of many TMIs! I’m 3 days post op from VSG and am still experiencing a ton of pain, even with the pain meds. The worst pain is in my chest. My doctor said it’s just from gas but I’ve been passing gas and it isn’t getting any better. I’ve been walking a few times a day and that helped with passing more gas, actually it worked a bit too well because I pooped myself when I thought it was gas coming 🤦🏻♀️. Told you, TMI! It was a clear slimy consistency so I don’t think it counts as a real bowl movement. I hope I have one soon because I don’t want to take a laxative. I also have a few seconds of excruciating pain whenever I sip something. It doesn’t matter what it is, it hurts right in the middle of my chest, I assume that’s where my new stomach begins. It’s making it really difficult to get any liquids down because of this pain. Last night I noticed both of my hands were swollen. It freaked me out a bit so I called the after hours line for my surgeon. They said it wasn’t anything to worry about.. Today the swelling is down but my arms are tingly for no apparent reason. A heating pad has been helping with the incision pain, that’s really improved over the last two days. I know I’m still healing and it’s a process but this is so hard right now! -
In need of some friends that has the gastric sleeve
mrsC1971 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just got home from the hospital due to constipation 🤦🏼♀️ I’m sorry TMI but I mentally exhausted this is harder then I thought it would be. I just need some people to chat with about maybe the same state of mind. 🥺 -
Hello all, I am having the Sleeve on Thursday this week and up until now I have been really excited, now not so much. I keep questioning if I should do it on my own. Its just seems really daunting at this point. I started my pre surgical diet yesterday and pretty much spent the last 2 days dying of hunger and in the bathroom (sorry for the TMI). I am sure that is what is causing the freak out. But well here I am. Well thanks for listening. Sent from my SM-N981U using BariatricPal mobile app

Help me decide: BPD/DS vs SADI-S
NovaLuna replied to SAsurgery's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I'm 8 months out from the Loop DS (or SADI-S). My surgery weight was 321 and right now I'm 222 so a 99 pound weight loss so far. -I avoid wheat products like the plague. They tell you that you won't get dumping syndrome and I call bullsh*t because wheat makes me dump. I try and avoid overly carb-y foods but I still get about 60 carbs in a day. I also try and avoid overly fatty foods because it does bring about diarrhea if I have too much. -I do occasionally have issues with diarrhea. Usually when I've had a little bit too much fat in my diet (I love my cheese a little more than I should). I used to take three bariatric multi's with iron a day but I process iron a little too well so I would get massive constipation issues and they suggested I lower to two but I still had that issue so now I do the switch as listed below. -For vitamins I take one bariatric multi with iron and two bariatric multi's without iron one day and then the next I switch it to two bariatric multi's with iron and one without. Also take two Calcium Citrate a day. And due to having a Vitamin A deficiency I take extra Vitamin A as well. -I don't struggle to maintain my loss. It's more frustration when I hit stalls. Mine happen probably more frequently than the average person due to hypothyroidism and it gets really frustrating. I've had my meds upped three times already and I really feel they need to be upped again but my doctor won't test my thyroid until November... And yeah, you are AWARE you are on a diet. But you have to change your way of thinking. It's a LIFESTYLE change. There will be times you want to cheat and if you do don't beat yourself up about it if you have a cookie or something. In my own experience though your taste buds change and you crave different things. For some reason I'm constantly craving fruit. Though I do get chocolate cravings and I bought protein bars and sugar free pudding for that particular craving. -Things I wish I knew before surgery? Well, I wish I knew about how frustrating and frequent the stalls can be with someone who has hypothyroidism. I also wish my doctor had warned me that it's a POSSIBILITY that you can vomit blood the first few days following surgery. It was scary when I first vomited blood and I thought something was wrong and then the nurse was like "honey, it's just old blood, it's totally normal" -_-' It's probably either because of my vitamin regiment or my dairy intake but every two days my system decides to empty EVERYTHING in it so I spend an hour or so locked in the restroom (TMI, sorry). And I'm sure there's more that I wish I'd known, but my brain is stalling lol. If I can think of something else I'll add to this post later. Oh, a person a few posts up said that you need 130g of protein BUT my surgeon said between 80-100 (but I'm a girl so...). I usually get around 90-95g of protein a day. And that's with only one 30g protein shake in my diet. So it's possible to do it with only one protein shake eventually. Also my labs said my protein intake was perfect so... -
Hi, I just had my conversion to bypass from sleeve two days ago and today I had my first vowel movement. Great I thought! Now, rather than passing gas I run to the bathroom just in case it’s not. I’ve had about 3-4 small bouts of loose stools today. Is this normal at all?
