Food Before and After Photos
ms.sss replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Back from vacay (where 90% of my intake consisted of over easy eggs and alcohol) and i finally get to enjoy a decent bowl of food: Smoked salmon, seaweed salad, horseradish aioli and a bit of Gorgonzola. #yum 320 calories, ate it all. P.S. I’ve always disliked the food served at All-Inclusive resorts down south, so I had very low expectations, which were met, lol. I actually packed 3 bags of those salad kits from Costco (to deal with my salad addiction), which were total life-savers! P.S.S Side-note NSV…i am the same weight I was when I left…BUT I haven’t pooped yet so i’m gonna guess once I get these 12 days 😳 of food out of my intestines, i may drop a few pounds. P.S.S.S I asked Mr. to make me a steak tonight cuz i miss meaty meat 🥩🤤 -

New nsv for me is feeling lighter on my feet. Just being able to stand in my heels for a longer period of time and noticing that my feet are not hurting. -

I second this. I have been on this site for almost 15 months now and I have NEVER heard anything but encouraging and very helpful advise from Arabesque. Congratulations on your NSV. -
That’s a great NSV! Congrats!

I LOVE THIS! It sounded like ME to a T!! There have been SOOOO many NSV! I too felt like I was a ‘slow loser’, but the numbers don’t lie! I’m a few days away from 11 months post op, and it has been a roller coaster of a year! The pics, I NEVER wanted ‘full body’ pics of myself. I can’t STOP taking them now! I still can’t believe how far I’ve come. I still have at least 20 more to lose, and this journey is for LIFE. It’s a daily struggle, of course I still WANT the food, but my mind has changed.

Tami, Re #1, the rings. Windex works so much better than lotion. It sounds crazy, I learned that at a jewelry store years ago. I have used it since then and it really works better than anything else. Hope your list continues to grow w/ NSV! -

Nice, early NSV! Wtg! -
Just as a preface, I had the sleeve in Dec. 2016 and dropped about 120 lbs in 6 months, then screwed up and slowly went back up almost to where I started. I had a revision to bypass in Nov. 2021 and have been doing very well, about 80 lbs down so far. Last week was spring break for my kids so we decided to take a vacation, my first since the most recent surgery. We went to Virginia (drove from NY). I was very worried for a few reasons. First, I weigh myself every single day (yes I know some recommend against it, it works for me). I didn't want to bring my scale so it would be a week without monitoring my weight loss (or gain). Second, I rarely eat out and I weigh everything I eat when I make it. I wasn't going to be bringing my food scale and I knew I'd have to eat out more than usual. Finally, we were going to a lot of places where there weren't the healthiest options to eat. So I resolved to try my best not to blow it and see what happened. We stayed at a timeshare resort which had a full kitchen (stove, oven, microwave, utensils, pots/pans, etc) which was fantastic because we were able to go shopping for a lot of stuff to make in the room so I knew exactly what I was eating. I was able to make my usual breakfast (2 scrambled eggs with shredded cheese) almost every morning. I bought a few pre-packaged salads and some other stuff for the room. I only had to actually eat out 4 or 5 times the entire trip, not counting during the drive to and from VA. When we ate out I was able to check the calories for what I was eating to make a healthier choice, and made sure to stop when I was full instead of cleaning my plate. I was able to find something to eat at both Waffle House and Cracker Barrel that wasn't too horrible. Even at Busch Gardens we went to the German area restaurant and I got something called a German Chef Salad that was pretty good and not too heavy or unhealthy. Bonus at Busch Gardens: Last year (pre-surgery) we went to an amusement park and I wasn't able to ride most of the roller coasters because I just couldn't fit - no problem at all this time, got in with room to spare! I stayed away from snacks and desserts (I got Halo Top ice cream for the room to have at night). When we got back I was concerned what the scale might say, but I was down 2 lbs from when we left, so I'll consider that a win! I had a nice NSV before the trip too - I was looking for clothes to bring and found a bunch of shirts I got when I lost all the weight the first time, and they all fit comfortably and looked great. Before the surgery I wore XXL shirts, and even those were getting a little snug, I even had one XXXL I think. Lately I've been wearing XL's which were getting roomy, all the shirts I found were L and fit great, so that was awesome. I also had to buy a new pair of jeans that was 4 sizes smaller and fits great. I found my old bathing suits which were too tight last year, now half are too big and the rest fit OK (almost too big but not quite yet). So it's been a good week, hoping to continue on my path to onederland again! Here's a pic of the family having fun.

That is the funniest NSV ever. I have to say though, that ghost door bell would would be dead and in the dustbin, never to ring again in my house. Children here have a game called 'knock a door, run'. The local kids would have got the blame haha -

So my first NSV for the week is making me scratch my head. I'm still losing, which is nice, but I had to return a pair of American Eagle brand shorts because they were too large—apparently I'm a size medium now. The idea of a six-foot-tall, 268-pound man being a medium in ANYTHING clothing related is just too bizarre for words. I expected it in Carhartt work t-shirts because they're like Chucks, they're known to run very large and you have to size down. But a teenage clothing line?? But that's not the weird NSV. The weird NSV requires some backstory. I live in a two-story home that is a little older (by local standards; stop laughing, Europeans). My beloved offspring's bedroom is directly above the doorbell—the actual thing that makes the chime sound itself. Whenever I would walk across her room, my weight would compress the floor and press down on the wall that the doorbell mechanism is mounted on, and because of how it's wired, the doorbell would ring. It took me WEEKS after we moved in to figure out what the heck was happening. I'd be putting her to bed and the doorbell would ring. She'd wake up and need water or to chase away a nightmare at 2:30 a.m., and I'd walk in and... the doorbell would ring. Freaked me out! Well, the other day I was putting clean laundry on her bed ("put it away yourself!") and I noticed that I don't make the doorbell ring anymore. Not even if I hop up and down on the spot. Nothing else has changed except the size of me, and so... weird non-scale victory! -
Have my first post op airplane ride tomorrow. So fricken nervous. The last time I was on a plane, I weighed around 324 lbs. I flew southwest and the buckle didn't close, I was so damn embarrassed I covered the buckle with my arm against myself and just prayed the attendant didn't notice. Now im about 270 lbs, still have a ways to go but im terrified the buckle won't fit again. I've flown at 280 and the buckle fit on jet blue and coach american. I'm hoping it'll be okay but still have so much anxiety. I got the bigger seats in the front on American Airlines this time but Ughhhh can this weight come off already? This is probably one of the worst parts about being obese. I love traveling but hate that I'm so scared and embarrassed of not fitting into plane seats. I know it'll be huge NSV when the buckle isn't suffocating my lower stomach and sides but just being confident enough that I fit any plane seatbelt is so annoying. I'm trying not to beat myself up but it's so frustrating when you've lost 70 lbs and you're still dealing with things like this. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

“Non scale victories...”
Queen ApisM replied to carrielee's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Great comment above. Doctors sometimes reduce certain health conditions to weight when it is more complex than that - for example, my very fit, thin cousin has uncontrollable high blood pressure, while mine is well controlled with meds. Just looking at our weights, you would assume the opposite is true. Regarding NSVs, big ones for me have been cutting my HBP meds (again, I have well controlled HBP, so I have had to reduce meds), more energy, a better sex drive (a bit embarrassing to share on a forum but it is true so...), less anxiety about fitting in places, fitting into old clothes in my closet, feeling eager to move more (when in the past activity was harder and I wanted to avoid it.) -

There is a whole thread on here for NSVs. But just a warning - don't count on all of your medical issues to disappear even if you lose a good amount of weight. Not all health problems that doctors say are caused by your weight are really caused by your weight. Some are genetic, like high blood pressure and cholesterol. Actually, cholesterol can increase right after surgery as your body releases certain hormones. Congratulations on having surgery, but remember that "health" is more than just your blood pressure or other medical conditions. Health has a lot to do with how you feel. I have lost 112 lbs and I feel great being able to fit more comfortably in places and wear "regular" clothes. I also move more comfortably and walk faster. But I was promised so many things - like having more energy - that I have not experienced. Good luck! -
“Non scale victories...”

You are going to start seeing the victories very soon after the surgery. You will start to see that your blood pressure, A1C and cholesterol will start to trend in the healthy direction assuming you stick to the plan laid out by your team. If you commit yourself to getting up and moving your body, you will also see your energy increase and find you are able to do a lot more things than before. Some of the NSVs I saw fairly soon were being able to easily cross my legs without pulling the leg up, being able to easily get up from a seated position etc. It is very important in my view to make sure you are not only dieting but moving....exercise as much as you can by walking and try to increase it as you become more comfortable with it. At this point, my non scale victories are far sweeter for me. I am able to fit into clothing sizes I have not seen since my Freshman year in College, I am exercising 1.5 hours per day, I have a resting heart rate of 50 and my blood pressure is well below average. I am healthier than at any point in my adult life and I am 58 years old. After not quite 8 months, my life has changed drastically and I am not going back to where I was. I have lost 101 pounds and am going to keep losing until I reach a normal BMI of 25 or lower. -
Diabetes, GONE! YOU go girl!! We are doing this! The "hovering", I do that too. But my body is evidently changing, sometimes people (I feel like) go WAY too far with the "look how SKINNY you are!" I am clearly NOT "skinny", lol. SOOOOO many NSV!! I don't even realize "what" all I had been MISSING in life! In 2 days, we are going on vacation in California. It's been SOO liberating to NOT have to worry about "activity levels and weight limits"!!

Anyway, I actually came to post my NSV - ran for 300 steps in a row today. I haven't done that for about 12 years. I really want to get back to running - I used to love it. -

Nothing weird about this one, just a regular NSV, but still a milestone for me. I got into a standard size AU/UK 16 (US 12) pair of skinny jeans today. I have not worn a size AU/UK 16 in at least two decades. Go me! -

Another weird but awesome NSV. I don't focus so much on food anymore. Like I can concentrate on other things. I still get hungry and think about what I'm gonna eat but I don't plan my day around eating specific meals and of course not operating anymore I'm never lethargic. Have had time and clarity to focus on my passion projects without getting distracted by overeating. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app -

It's the small things that really make the beginning of this journey wonderful. I'm not very far out (Sleeved 03/07/22) but the little things that keep happening and changing are reminding me that it was so worth it. I have lost about 30lbs since the start of my journey (HW:281 SW:268 CW:237) and am smaller than I have ever been in my adult life. I see the small things changing and it keeps me fighting. Yesterday, I bought size 20 jeans that are even a tad loose on me and I've always been 22-24s. I bought some workout pants a few months ago that I thought would fit but were too small and put them on today and they fit PERFECTLY. I see my face thinning and can feel my collarbone. Just remember to celebrate the little things! And when things are getting tough, remember where you started and where you are now and keep fighting! I'm rooting for you all!

This is odd because I feel like a lot of people prefer more showy clothes after losing weight but my weird NSV is that I can actually do the baggy look now and not look like it was my only option or I'm a big ball hahaha. I love the Korean Hanbok clothing style (google it) and am so excited to be down more lbs to REALLY rock it! Here's my first Hanbok inspired outfit. Same! Rings are my favorite jewelry and I have a ton, but they're all size 10. I wear a 7 but now but almost a 6. I sure miss my wedding rings but I'm wearing a temporary one for now until I get them resized. It's so good to have smaller fingers! Great NSV for you!
