  1. Hi I'm scheduled for June surgery and I'm reading how some have gained some or all weight back I guess I thought with the Sleeve being that your stomach is much smaller it would be hard for the weight gain -- now I'm scared
  2. I'm considering getting banded (yay me!) But my body can be very frustrating some times, most recent example was gaining 8+ lbs in the span of 3 days (not it's not Water weight.) So it sparked the thought - I'm not sure how I'll handle GAINING weight after being banded. I'm curious if anyone gained a significant amount of weight in the first year and how much? Did you get it back off again? Thanks for any feedback!
  3. Hi all! I was banded back in 2003, and it took me 2 years to reach my goal weight. Then came the great lap band slippage of 2005. I went for the corrective procedure and was told all was well, since then I have had nothing but trouble - I've regained 60lbs and can't seem to loose any of it. It's as though EVERYTHING I eat causes me to gain weight - even though my diet consists mostly of veggie Soup (cause its about all I can keep down) and I wake every night choking on reflux, not to mention the constant pain at the port site. So today i went back to my surgeon and as suspected, the band has slipped again. I've discussed my options with Dr.D and have decided the best plan for me is to remove the band and have the revision to a sleeve. Dr.D tells me that I have to remove the band, wait 3 months for my stomach to relax then have the sleeve done. I've tried to argue with him re; the 3 month rest period but considering he is the surgeon, and I have no idea about surgical matters, I didn't get very far in my attempts to get him to do the removal and sleeve in one surgery. Has anyone had the same experience - Band out, few months wait then sleeved? I'm so worried about the weight gain in those 3 months - can anyone share their story? Did you gain weight? How rapidly? Or how did you maintain your weight loss over that time? I'm not going to lie, this is terrifying me - so I thought I'd reach out to fellow banders for support!

Hey everyone I have had my band for around 5 years noq my starting weight was 128 Kgs and got down to 78 kgs !! Im 30 years old female and from australia, My husband and I started trying for a baby we fell preganant so I went adn got 2.5mls taken out of my band I had 3.5mls in the start with in 6 weeks I put on 12 KGS !!!!! we lost our baby due to a misscarriage this was a hard time for me as it was my secoud in about 2 years, We are ok though I have awesome support from my husband which is great! My issue is that after 5 years and sitting on around 78-82 kgs I really thought in my mind I had it under control my eating.... as soon as I knew I could eat I did!! I was out of control I went to see my doctor today he put 2mls in so I now have 3 mls I need to get myself back into it and lose the 12kgs I pt on !! It actually freaks me out to think that this band is so important to me as I need it more than I thought I did ! Why do I always think of food? has anyone else felt this way ? A x

    Weight Gain For Tom

I know this might be a stupid question but I never paid attention to it when I was heavier but is it normal to gain 3+ lbs during that time of the month? I got on my scale this morning and I was shocked to see the gain and I've been doing everything right.
  6. Hi ALL! I am currently in the 89+ day weight loss management stage. October 29th is my last weigh-in. My questions is, what happens if you gain weight during this period? Will CIGNA deny you because of it?
  7. Anyone else gain weight for the first 2-3 days postop? I am thinking it is water retention. Is this common? Was 282 day of surgery Tues today Thurs I am 286. I know i shouldn't be stepping on the scale, but it is impossible not to be curioous.
  8. So I am going to have my Gallbladder removed on Thursday. In my research I keep finding that people who have had theirs removed, complain about weight gain in the following years. Are there any bander's out there who have had GB Surgery (after the band) and are you having a difficult time with weight loss now????? Anything I should know???? Thanks for your replies and advice.
  9. Dear Nightingale2u,

I saw your post about the weight gain and if you knew then what you know now you would have had the by-pass. I too feel the same exact way! I have spent more time and money running to the doctors with fills and unfills and another problem is the place I go to is 50 miles from my home and what a hassle making appointments meet my schedule, forget it. I wonder how many others feel our same way. By the way It's been almost 3 years for me since banding and I've lost 55 pounds.

Stalls and small gains are very common. You've already lost 60 pounds! Well done! I had many plateaus/stalls along the way. Check out a graph I did of a year of weight loss. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/335141-one-year-of-weight-loss-graphed/

      Best of luck to you!

    Oh, the journey I've traveled.

My weight gain started after a very depressing first marriage & continued on through single parenthood.  By the time I met my current husband (of almost 20 yrs now), I guess I was comfortable with myself & my terrible eating habits. I'm not sure I can pinpoint the moment I decided to have the gastric sleeve, but like many, I got to the point where I was so damn depressed that I didn't even want to go out. I didn't want to be seen or noticed. I was incredibly embarrassed with myself.

Fast forward, I had my surgery around 2014.  Became a weight loss facilitator hosting support meetings for newbies & post surgery. Started a demanding job that took me away from continuing the meetings only to wind up getting laid off 1 1/2 yrs later. Found a temp job but was very unhappy with the commute so I left.

Here's where you need to pay attention. I wound up unemployed for almost 7 months.  I became quite depressed and, guess what gained 25 pounds back. UGH, how could this happen, right?  Fortunately, once I was employed & allowed myself to become accountable to myself again, I started Weight Watchers.  Yea, you would think I knew what I had to do to lose the weight again but I needed the support & something I could 'share' with others.

Here I am, 4 months later & I lost the weight.  Pheww... I'm 5'2 and my average weight is around 142 pounds.  I may start those support meetings up again in the North Denver area. MIght be a great resource for many as it was when I first did it :)

  16. I had my surgery yesterday. I lost almost 30 during my pre op diet. Why is it today my weight is up about 6 pounds? I've only had clear liquids and meds.
  17. My surgery was last Wednesday, Dec. 14th. I had a situation with low blood pressure requiring the nurses to push extra IV's the entire time. I knew I would gain some weight, but wasn't prepared to gain 15 lbs. Is this number reasonable? How fast can I lose the weight? I'm getting all my Water in. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. I'm starting to have a BIG problem. I had my gallbladder taken out about 6 weeks ago and every since then my whole appetite has changed for the worse. Slowly my weight has started to increase, I gained 5 lbs in the past few weeks. I can eat twice the portion of food and I'm hungry 1 hour after my meals and in between my meals. I was never like that before I had my gallbladder taken out. Before I would eat 3 meals a day and not be hungry and it would be losing 2 lbs a week. Now i'm gaining like 1/2 lbs a day. Honestly, lately for the past two weeks, I've been struggle with eatting hungry and not drinking liquids as I was before. I'm just hungry all the time and not thristy. I haven't really been making the right food choice lately either. I did join a gym 2 weeks ago and I go 2-3 times a week. Does anyone know someone who has Lap Band and had their gallbladder taken out? did they go through this side effect like I am. I can't get another fill because my insurance won't pay for them anymore. I'm 11 months out from having my surgery (surgery date 10/23/07) and I've had 5 fills so far. I'm a 8.5 cc out of 10 cc. The restriction is not there anymore.
  19. My doctor changed my meds to get me off insulin, and the glyboride did wonders. My numbers are in the low 100's but it seems I have gained over 5 lbs while on it. He said it is known to do that. He is more concerned with good numbers, then the effects from the band. These are 2 different doctors.
  20. I knew it would happen. I was totally prepared to gain weight from the IV fluids. They weighed me 2 days post surgery and I was up nearly all of the weight that I had lost on the pre-op diet. I weighed this morning, a week post surgery, and I am still up 2-3 lbs. What gives? I can see that I have lost weight. When will it show up on the scale? Grumble. I know patience ... something that I don't have. Mary
  21. Soooo Thanksgiving was rough for me .... I honestly felt sad because I couldn't eat. I was happy that I couldn't buuut I just missed the food. I didn't measure my food I just put a little bit of this/that on my plate and couldn't eat 1/2 of it ... heck I couldn't even eat a fourth of it. I did enjoy my friends but ... couldn't help mourning my old friend ... food. I know I had too many carbs because I didn't start with Proteins. I was kind of scared to weigh myself because I felt that i'd gained. Today I weighed myself and my suspicions were confirmed. I'm not gonna trip out about the gain ... just making note of it and the cause and moving forward.
  22. So I know this is probably on the forum and for the life of me I can't find any posts to fit what I'm asking, so I'm putting this out there. I may be just spoiled from consistently losing every week (except for a short lived plateau around Christmas time) and I'm really happy with my progress, but today I stepped on for my weekly weigh in and had gained a little over a pound. I track on MFP every little morsel and have been walking 5-6 days a weeks around 2/4 miles a day and my calories ranged from 700-1200 over this week and my protein and carbs were on target (this is all I'm supposed to watch per my NUT), so not sure what is going on. I should probably just not worry about it and see what happens next week. But any thoughts? LBT is very supportive and I may just need this, as I know this is not much of a weight gain, but as I'm sure some of you can understand, weight gain (no matter how much/little it is) is hard to accept when you are doing everything right and want to get away from obesity.
