  1. The 3 week stall has finally lifted and I am so thankful lol

  2. Newbie here, first post! That said I have done my fair share of reading and creeping and have come to understand the 3 week stall is pretty common. That said... Tomorrow marks the 4th week post op and this entire week has had 0 loss. I have now lost 13 pounds post op bringing me to 17.4 in the last 30 days, and I feel like the surgery and the recovery was it worth 13 pounds? I feel stuck, I feel discouraged living like this during the holidays and not able to eat all the treats and food around. Now with the rant done, I am looking for a good puree to soft solids daily menu with food ratios that anyone can point me too? I am good at following a plan but suck at just making something up in a pinch, I have been planning but you know how it goes, sometimes you just don't feel like the things you made previously. I guess I just needed to vent, and in a space where others maybe have dealt with this themselves..
  3. Please please tell me this is normal. I've also only lost 12lbs in the first 2 weeks and now in a 3 week stall. I'm glad I've not gained anything cause i think i would be even more disheartened. I'm taking in around 700cals a day, getting my protein in and fluids. I have been doing light exercise on cross trainer but too scared to push it. should i be doing anything different or do i just wait it out? I knew it was coming, but mannnnnn... 3 weeks :(
  4. As the title says, I hit my 3 week stall about 2 days ago. I have been through this before, so I know not to check my weight for a week now. The stalls are the worst part of all this, and as time goes on, they get longer and longer. But I've already been to this dance, so at least I know what to expect. My gerd is getting bad. I had to go up to 40mg every day and see how that works (going to every other day caused issues, so today starts every day again). I was really hoping that I would be able to get off PPI with this revision, but so far, no. At least I've gone from 80mg daily to 40. If I could get down to maybe 20mg I could learn to be ok with it. I guess time will tell. I was given the ok to try some ground turkey and HOLY CRAP I FOUND THE RESTRICTION!!!!!! I can eat scrambled eggs, avocado, hummus, refried beans, even cheese cubes....nothing. But I had 2 tbsp of ground turkey and HOLY MOTHER OF GOD there was ALL KINDS of restriction!!!!! I've never had this before. It's awesome!!!! I was told my stomach is the size of a golf ball, and I found it hard to believe before, but oh man I believe it now!!!
  5. Hi- just wondering if you didn’t experience the infamous 3 week stall, when did it show up? And I’ve read it can last 1-3 weeks. Any variations on that out there?

    3 week stall

hey everyone. i had gastric bypass on march 3rd. I noticed that ever since surgery, every 3rd week I would stop losing weight for an entire week and then it would start dropping again. I am down 40 lbs so far but the last 3 weeks I havent lost a thing. Is this normal? I am getting nervous that Im doing something wrong
  7. I’m 15 days post roux en y and have been doing well and even running slowly, Ran 2 miles in less than 32 minutes yesterday including a hill! Last night I felt dehydrated and hungry and I’m now 15 days after surgery so I picked. Mushy meal of beef vegetable soup and I ate it. This morning had horrific bleeding stomach problems and had to miss work. Haven’t had this before- so I tried to eat eggs late afternoon and threw up. This is my first bad day. I am tolerating my medications, etc. but today my stomach is cramping and not very happy. also the weight loss stalled this week- not sure why. Today I finally dropped a pound. anyone have any comments?
  8. So unfortunately I did check my weight and I only lost 1lb since my post op appointment last week and I am extremely annoyed. Like in another week I’ll be 4 weeks out and I only lost 14 lbs after surgery so far. I am trying my best with protein and water goals and I am following the plan, not to mention I move a lot and my bms are normal so I’m not understanding what the issue is. Trying to not get discouraged I know this is normal but still it’s a little disheartening but I know it will get better.

    3 week stall

I had my surgery 3 weeks ago i was dropped about 1 1/2 lbs a day and now it stopped ... the scale will not move at all and it’s killing me . I know i shouldn’t be weight my self everyday but it’s a bad habit i have to break . I’ve been following everything and counting my macros but idk what is going on 😭
  10. Hello All, I had my RNY on 8/4 and lost almost 25 lbs in two weeks. At week 3 my weight loss stalled and I keep gaining and losing the same 5 lbs. from 175-180. I’m only 5ft 4 so this is way too soon for this! I eat about 600 calories a day, hitting the 50-60grams in protein and usually 50 carbs or so. I’m not cleared for exercise but in all honestly I’ve been lazy and tired so no exercise. Where could I be going wrong?!
  11. Hey so I was sleeved 6/29/20. I've done a lot of research so I see the 3 week stall is a thing. My question is how long does it last?? I've been at a stall gaining and losing the same 3lbs for about a week and a half now. It's just insanely frustrating. I feel I shouldve lost more by now. I'm not over eating. I roughly eat 1/4 - 1/2 cup at a time and only 3 times a day and 1 or 2 shakes a day if I can get them in and of course as much water as I can. I walk every day and starting Monday I can start basic strength training again (minus core for now). Help!? What am I doing wrong?? Hw:290 Sw:266 Cw:257
  12. I will be 6 weeks out on Tuesday. The first 3 weeks I lost well (8.4; 3.8, 4.2). However, the last 3 weeks my loss has slowed down a LOT (.8, 1, and so far 0). Has anyone experienced anything like this and had their loss speed back up? I'm trying to keep a positive outlook but the longer the stall or slow down lasts the harder I am finding it. I see my surgeon and NUT on Monday and will be talking to them, but I'm just curious if this is the 3 week stall everyone talks about and if so, at about when it's normal for loss to pick back up. For reference, I was lucky to have a very easy recovery so I am getting 70+ grams of protein most days (always over 60). I am drinking between 70-100 oz of water a day. My calories are high for how far out I am (usually just under 800; 6 weeks) but that's because I still need protein supplements between meals. For meals, I'm eating 4 oz of soft protein (like chicken salad) and then if hungry some vegetables that are cooked soft. I will be hopefully be able to move onto more dense foods after my next appointment.
  13. I had surgery on 12/12/19 and I dropped 20lbs right away, then another 3 over the 3rd week. But I've been stalled for over a week and a half. I decided to stay consistent with my protein, meet my water goals and stay on top of my vitamins. After a couple days of this, I dropped 3lbs over night!! I know it's a small victory but after having surgery being stalled so long is worrisome. Anyone else go through this?
  14. Lots of people complain that they have a 3 week stall and lots of people seem to feel depressed and regret having had surgery. I think this is a great explanation as to why. One of the challenges some patients face after weight loss surgery is a condition described as the hibernation syndrome. This is a group of symptoms that include feeling fatigued, depressed and lack of motivation to do any physical activity. Patients often feel upset and become plagued by thoughts that the surgery was as mistake.. This can be quite alarming to patients recovering from the surgery and recognizing the signs assist in getting over this stage in recovery. Hibernation syndrome is common in the first few weeks after the surgery. It is caused by the low number of calories being consumed and the reduced activity associated with this time of healing. The body perceives that it is starving and triggers an evolutionary response that has helped humans survive famines. The main aim of the response is to slow us down to conserve energy and thus resulting in; tiredness, need for sleep, lack of motivation and depression. It is important to understand that these symptoms are normal and will pass with time. Most patients notice improvement in their symptoms around 4-6 weeks after the operation and the improvement is brought by increasing protein in the diet, taking the multivitamin tablets, increasing the metabolic rate with exercise and return to work and the encouragement patients get as they shed the extra weight. A supportive family member or friend is a great help during this time.
  15. I'm 4 months post op today from my SIPS procedure. I have lost 83lbs in total since the start in early June, and 68 lbs since surgery, however I was hoping to be further along and even at my last Dr appointment they indicated I could have lost more and were surprised I hadn't. I seem to be averaging 11 lbs a month over the last 3 months, but what keeps happening is that I lose 11lbs in one week, then NOTHING for 3 weeks!! Is this normal? At first I thought it was just a stall, but the last 3 months in a row have had exactly the same pattern. Don't get me wrong, I'm really happy to have lost the weight I have, but I was kind of hoping for it to go a bit quicker, because I have a total of 200lbs to lose and everyone tells me (including my Doctor!) that after the first 6 months it will slow right down. I took on board what they said and have been sticking to the food plan and going to the gym, because I was terrified if I didn't lose 100-150lbs in the first 6 months, I wouldn't get to my goal. But seems like my body had different plans. I also don't understand how I can have a daily calorie deficit of approx 1000 cals, but for 3 weeks out of each month, not lose anything? How is my body actually powering itself during that time? My hair is falling out in clumps and my skin isn't great, so I'm guessing thats what's happening instead, but seriously....how can I be running on negative?? My average daily food intake looks like this: Breakfast: either 1 boiled egg with a little mayo, or 1 protein shake (premier protein). Once a week I will have 1/2 a cup of rice cereal. Lunch: I batch cook chilli or soup with added protein at home to take to work. Usually have it with 1oz of pecans or macadamias (trying to follow keto) Mid-afternoon snack: cheese stick or protein shake (depending on whether I had one for breakfast or not) Dinner: Varies, but generally I go for pressure cooker chicken (between 3 and 5 oz) and green veg, or tuna salad, or 3-5oz of pork chop. 2-3 times a week I will have 3oz of sweet potato, but thats not every day and depends on how hungry I am. My average calorie intake is 99% of the time between 800 and 1150 and I hit at least 80g of protein every day. I try to keep carbs under 30g, but often average about 50g (gross) I count my water and get at least 64oz every day. I go to the gym 2-3 times a week, and on average I do 45 mins of cardio (cross trainer/eliptical and bike) and then 10-15 mins of weight training. Outside of this i try to be as active as I can, and I average round 6000-7500 steps daily (I have an office job so can be tricky) Does anyone have any advice or thoughts on what else I can do to try and speed this up? Should I do different things at the gym, or just try to go more often? Or should I mix up my food a bit more? I'd really appreciate any ideas.
  16. Had surgery 8.16 and now going into week 3 I’ve hit a stall, lost 18 lbs and haven’t lost anything! Does anyone know how long it will last , or what to do to get rid of the stall?!
  17. I am coming up on completing 3 weeks post op. I have lost 14 pounds since surgery. My biggest drop was week one and it has slowed to a stop this week. I have not increased my calories. I really don't want to be that 1 pound a week person when I was hoping for 3-4.

    3 week stall?

Is this the dreaded three week stall? I thought it was a joke! I weighed in at the doctors on Wednesday and haven't lost anything since! My scale said I even gain half a pound! I am not eating anything I'm not supposed to. I am transitioning to liquids to blended. However, I'm having a REALLY hard time getting my water in. I try to eat, I get so full I feel like I can't put anything in my body for like 2 hours, and it's not like the old days where you can just chug your water. I sip all day and I can barely finish 24 ounces. I'm 19 days post op today. I have been way more conscious of how fast I'm eating, I am chewing things to death, I use a baby spoon, I put my plate away, I wait between water and good but I'm a!ways so uncomfortable after eating almost any amount i am just afraid to drink! I feel like this is why I'm not losing. I also use the baritastic app AND write in a journal. I'm seriously thinking of having my friend that's a nurse come over with an IV!
  19. I read a post where someone wrote there was a medical and scientific reason for this stall. Can someone link it? It would be nice if I had a reasonable explanation for the pool of blood that will form on my floor after I am done bashing my head into the wall today. 20. Sleeved on 1/8. Lost 14 pds the first week. and only 3 pds since then... so frustrated! I'm getting all of my water and protein in, keeping calories and carbs low. -- not hard considering the little amount we can consume. Tell me this is happening to others too, and that it will end!
  21. I can't seem to get past the 3 week stall. [emoji20] I'm a month out from Lapband revision with Gastric bypass. At 3 weeks, when I went to the pureed stage, hit the stall. I've increased my walking, a bit frustrated and concerned. Any suggestions or insight welcomed! Thanks for the support!
  22. I didn't know about the dreaded "3 week stall" until seeing it on various posts. It happened to me when I went on pureed diet stage (for me that was at 3 weeks). Discouraging, but "This too shall pass". Stepping up my exercise hoping that helps. Also having to take Miralax, issues with not "going" without it. 23. Hi all, My surgery was on September 7th and I've lost 20 pounds since then ...woot woot! Well here it is....I'm moving into my 3rd week and BAM! it's been about 3 days and my weight has stayed the same if not 1 pound gain, lose, gain back. Ugh. I know....this is by far the most loss I've had in such a short amount of time, but still can't help put have that little panic happen even though I've heard of the 3 week stall before. I guess my questions are....what did you do? Did you just wait things out? Did you change things up at all? What helped you get over the dreaded 3 week stall?
  24. Hi. I was just wondering, is the "3 week stall" a DEFINITE thing? Does everyone experience it? I'm currently 17days post op. Sent from my SM-G930T using BariatricPal mobile app
