    Would You Do It Again

I've done a ton of research on the band and bypass and and moderate amount on sleeve( not as much available at the time.)i chose band for the same reasons as others.I'm a nurse and have had to take care of a lot of bypass patients that were re admitted for bleeds sepsis mslnutrition etc....I felt like less drastic to start was better no removing or re routing anything.BUT I'm turning 40 this year and if the band didn't work I would try another surgery.Because they all have the benefit (if done properly) of reducing weight and weight related diseases..FOR me this was the best choice.I like that it's a tool and you have to work it to make it work.it really motivates me.even though people say " you took the easy way out" with all weightloss surgeries, I think lapband is the one that that statement least applies to.
  3. When they create a band that blocks my desire for chocolate chip cookies then I'll say it's easy way....as you all said this is hard.it's not liposuction and you can fail your band.it's risky but worth it !:-)
  4. One, I think you are still healing.give it a couple more weeks.two, you are eating 1000 cal of what?? Protein and veggies.Or High carb slider foods.?? DEFINATELY get My fitness Pal and track what you eat.make sure you're getting in 50-70 gms of protein a day.good luck to you:-)

    Dating Preference

My sister asked why did I always date " thus certain type" of guy.I was very offended.I said so you think I have a list and weed out all the most handsome, fit, guys.??!? I go out with the person that asks . I think our preference will change a bit as we slim down .But the promise I made to myself is Never date some one who knew me as plus size and wouldn't look twice but then after weightloss they are all in my face. ..oh no buddy remember I'm the "friend" the "play sister" the " honegirl" I have a long way to go but o am already getting ready for cuz I know it's coming :-/

Crazy Story From Pre Op Class

In case ssomeone wants to know, although some foods like beef and gum can cling to your intestinal wall for years, all food is digested and out of your stomach in 3-5 hrs.that why they say NPO( nothing by mouth in Latin) after midnight. The Dr knows by the time you have any procedure done in the morning there will be no food in your stomach.:-)

    Flying And The Dreaded "extender"

I understand!! :-/ I flew almost every week for about 8 years until October of last year. About 85 % of my trips were on Southwest airlines .so I just decided to keep the extender in my purse so I wouldn't be embarrassed by asking. Every once in a while I'll forget to take it off the plane with me. I dreaded asking for another one :-( or if I happen to fly on another airline with different type of belt I'd hate asking. The flight attendants were usually discreet about handing it to you, but the guy in the isle seat always looked puzzled as it crossed his face.:-( I have. Not flown since being banded 4/6/12 i don't plan on flying until my birthday in October. If I don't need a a extra belt I will be posting in the success stories forum.:-)

What Does Having The Lapband Feel Like?

So glad you're asking these Questions BEFORE being banded. Please ask ask ASK..Get as much info as possible . Can anyone tell me what it feels like to have a LapBand? Can you feel it? NO I CAN'T Do you feel like it's hard to breathe?IMEDIATELY after surgery yes but that was gone in a couple of days Do you have a hard time swallowing?NO BUT you should not swallow big gulps to avoid feeling stuck. What does getting 'stuck' feel like?TO ME it feels like a giant in chewed pickle in your esophagus What is a 'stuck' episode? Does it get stuck in your esophagus or in the small stomach? EVEN though it feels like it's in your esophagus I believe it would be in the pouch/ small stomach Does having a LapBand make you have heartburn?NO but I've heard it does for some Can you still eat spicy foods?I HAVE no problem Can you still guzzle Water or will it be sip city forever?I can guzzle water but I try not to do it after meals. Any permanent damage from it?I'm too new 4 months post op but have heard of some that develop scar tissue and get the band removed. Do you like it or dislike it?LOVE MY BAND !! REMEMBER this is NOT magic !! It is a TOOL ! You still have to have healthy eating habits do your follow ups and follow your Dr.'s orders.!! Good luck to you !
  18. Great ! Let me know how it goes ! U can message me also if u have any questions.there is a lot of support on this forum and a lot if questions and problems have been answered so stay on here as much as possible ask questions even if u think it's stupid.but really try to get ad much info BEFORE getting banded. Keep us informed Good Luck !:-)
  19. I know you already have the band but sounds like you need to go back and research about how and why and when the band is effective .why would you think the weight would just fall off with out changing your eating habits?!? Did a Doctor say this ?!? Sounds like you are in "bandster hell" and people can be here for 6-9 months until they reach their " green zone" if you don't know these two terms start your research there. Also 6 weeks is still healing phase.if no body told you let me be the first. This is a long process,it is not magic, you have to work at it.this is a tool to help you but u have to do your part. If u eat the right things the band should help u eat less. Most bad stuff goes right through the band and the band can't help. Band rules My advice would be to make sure you follow the basic band rules. 1.no more than 1 cup of food 2. Protein FIRST then veggie then carb if there is room. 3.no drinking with meals. 4. Small bites chew chew chew 5. 30 min or less to eat.what ever is left after 30 min.stays on the plate Good luck to you !!:-)
