I've struggled with my weight my entire life since I was small kid. I've attempted weight loss in many different ways-- diets, doctors, tests, etc.. but I have never been able to be successful.. I always lose like 30-40 pounds, then gain it back, usually plus more. I'm in college, and when I moved to college from home within a year I had gained almost 50 pounds.. I've heard of the freshman 15, but not really the freshman 50 (haha). Nonetheless, I have always been pretty healthy and never really had any problems (I've played sports, etc), but when I was in high school I tore my ACL in my knee, and at that point I really became more sedentary because of the fear of hurting my knee.. Anyway, my weight has really spiraled out of control and my freshman year of college my mom and I went to a seminar with a surgeon to look into weight-loss surgery. I really just wasn't ready for it, and completely avoided the topic. During this past spring I had a scare where my feet and legs were extremely swollen, so I completely freaked out that I was getting sick and I decided to go to the doctor to have a caboodle of tests run. Luckily, nothing was wrong. At this point I decided that I HAD to do something about my weight. I contacted the insurance company and had my benefits mailed to me, and started on the 6 month diet. I also contacted the surgeon I had seen prior. Just last week I met with the surgeon I will be having do my surgery. She told me I could do either, but for me she recommended the gastric bypass (roux) -- but I really just do not feel comfortable with this surgery. I feel like the lapband is a better option for me. I just hope I can lose the amount of weight I would like to to be healthy with it. :)
