I have a standing everymonth apointment with my dr. Sometimes I loose 12 pounds, last month I lost 2. But they really, really encourage me to come and see them. I would be really pissed if my dr. made me feel like I couldn't come see them. They are doing you a service, you are the customer, don't be ashamed. There are lots of reasons you may not be losing weight, the dr. office is the best place to figure out why. Hardest part is being honest with them and yourself. When they wanted to know what was going on with me last month I replied "no exercise... and....cookies!) Use your support groups. My clinic has several different classes dealing with exercise, nutrition, behavior modification and support group. If you think it is your habits and not the fact that you need an adjustment, you should look into it and see if there is other help out there for you. You're worth it, don't let the dr. make you feel like you are failing! Good Luck!

Does anyone else get really sick from eating eggs. I am 6 months post surgery and I Cannot eat eggs. I instantly get that "stuck" thing going on no matter how small of bites I take or how well I chew, i have to throw up. Then I get extremely nauseated and vomit until I hurt. Scares me, I am so afraid of band slippage. Guess I will no longer even try an egg.

my "fill" person told me that as you lose weight, your stomach also shrinks some. So you may be at a really good spot for a long time than all of a sudden need another fill because your stomach has shrunk therefore loosening up your band.

Do you still have coffee?
TKW replied to Southern Leo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i was told the problem with cafinated coffee is it is a diuretic, so it can be dehydrating. I was told for every cup of cafinated coffee I drink I need to drink an additional 16 oz of water. I miss my coffee, i drink decaf most of the time just because it's hard for me to get the extra water in. But every now and than I need my whole bean gormet cafinated pot of java! -

Apparently many WLS surgeons are keeping it a secret ...
TKW replied to Phranp's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I always had restriction... right from the start. the band is only about 1 1/2" in diameter, certainly that much give us some restriction? I guess it must work differently on different people, but I have always had some restriction since the very first day I left the hospital. -
I take 1 Centrum Chewable Vitamin Plus Minerals (need the iron) and 2 Viactive Calcium Chews with Vitamin D daily. I just had all of my levels tested and everything was great except my Vitamin D was a little low. I will admit, sometime I forget to take that 2nd Calcium Chew. I must be better at that! I didn't start exercising until about 3 months after my surgery, wish i had started earlier, it made a huge difference in my weight loss. I would think you could exercise moderately up until 6 weeks, than you should be able to do anything. Good Luck!

HONEST-Post Op Diet Success
TKW replied to JAMILLAH E's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 6 months post op. At first I followed the "plan" pretty close because I was worried about something going wrong. I don't understand the people who say they have NO restriction. I have always had some restriction, I saw the band before they put it in, in my surgeons office and it is only about 1 1/2" in diameter so I would think everyone has some restriction, the fullness may not have lasted till the next meal but since I have had the surgery I have never been able to even come close to eating what I ate before, I call that restriction? If you are eating "mushies" after you are past the mushie stage, you are going to be able to eat a lot more. I try to follow the "plan" for the most part, but I do eat things I shouldn't eat once in a while. I now have 5.2 cc in my band and it has made a world of difference in what i can eat and the quantity, but if i make the wrong choices... I can eat way more than a cup of food. I don't beat myself up when i snitch something I souldn't, i just get up the next day and move forward. I have so far been pretty successful. My clinic uses the term "mindful eating" a lot and I have to say I really need to think about what I'm eating but even more importantly, why I am eating! It is not always easy to recognize when you are "full" or should I say when you "are not hungry" Good Luck to you, it's a great journey, I'm enjoying every minute of it! -
After my surgery, i had to take a "new start" exercise and nutrition class. One of the classes was on the big ball so should be fine!

1.) Water, Water, Water 2.) Exercise 3.) If you have a bad day/week, just keep on going, don't beat yourself up... keep on keeping on. The weight WILL come off!

How to shrink my pouch?
TKW replied to BandedGirl09's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Get back to the Doctor, don't be scared or embarassed, just do it! Get a fill and really start thinking with your head, not your heart, about your hunger. Do NOT have junk in the house to eat... GET RID OF IT ALL!!! Get exercising and be proud of every ounce you lose. If I can do this, you CAN do this. I was a horrible eater, sweets were my thing and I overate at every meal! I thought I would have such a hard time with the band but I really wanted to do this and you know what I found out... I CAN DO IT!!! I really can. If I have junk around, I eat it.... so I dont' have it around and guess what, I don't miss it. You know what I enjoy even more than all those sweets i no longer eat... losing weight. I really feel GREAT about every single pound and when I go a week without losing I just keep going and when that next pound comes it's better than a brownie! I am 7 months out of surgery but I make a standing monthly apointment with my clinic. Sometimes they give me a fill, sometimes they don't. i'm honest with them about my eating habits and how I'm feeling. They want to see you succeed and they see people all the time that are having problems making the band work... they will help you! Really, the key is knowing your not hungry, not eataing just to eat. Believe me, I sometimes still eat things I shouldn't but I get right back to it, I don't beat myself up, I just get back to it! Good Luck to you, I know you can do this... Get back to your Clinic!!! -
Would do it again in a Heartbeat! Only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. So happy with my results and I have a long way to go!

I felt like I ate so much "junk". I didn't go to the gym for 2 weeks (which is where I weigh because I don't own a scale at home) so I had no idea what my weight was doing. I went back to the gym Monday the 27th, the scale showed me the "exact" same weight! I hadn't moved even an ounce, which quite honestly I was greatful for! I was so afraid I had gained. So I worked out everyday this week and watched what I ate, and lost 3 pounds in 5 days!!! I'm ready to re-commit now that the Holidays are done!!! Good Luck Everyone!!! Happy New Year!

10cm, 4cc band....anybody else? questions about fills
TKW replied to DRP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a 10cc band. I just had my 3rd fill from 4.7 to 5.2cc total. I can not believe the difference that .5 cc made. It's like having to get used to chewing and bite size all over again! Good Luck to ya! -
What does the band feel like (worried about port flipping)
TKW replied to ascicles's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
mine is the same way as yours, my brothers is round like your girlfriends. I sort of think mine is sitting crooked but they have no problems putting fills in. -
WOW! That's great... my brother had surgery in March and has not yet had a fill, down 90+ pounds. His weightloss has now slowed considerably and he is thinking he is ready for his first fill. Great Job!!! Keep it up!

anything soft that will "slide" right through your band. Ice cream, yougurt, Soups etc.

How long does it "usually" take people to get approved?
TKW replied to kourtany93's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I "had" high colesterol. Submitted info to the insurance Co. was approved within 2 weeks. (MEDICA) -
Wow... that's crazy, I can't imagine what it would have to do with the lap-band though. You should see your regular doctor, however I would still run it by your surgeon.

UGH....need to find my groove...holidays are over
TKW replied to bostonmomma's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I'm with you! Got rid of anything in the house that was not healthy yesterday, going to the gym after work today. Haven't been there for 2 weeks! I actually kind of miss it. Hoping I at least maintained, pretty sure I haven't lost, but have also been ignoring the scale. Happy New Year to everyone.... wishing you much success in 2011!!! -
What Does This Mean? Please Help :)
TKW replied to glam_gabbi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had a number of "stuck" episodes. It usually happens when i do exactly what you said, eat too fast or take to big of bites. I don't think eating too much causes it, at least not with me (that's different pain for me!) Apparently it can not get thru the opening in your band and you start "sliming" in order to create enough saliva to get it to slide thru your band. I, however, usually end up throwing up to get rid of it because i litterally fill up with slime, and it has got to come out! It also is very painful. I can't believe the amount of slime i produce. If it can't go down, it's got to come up! I have learned that it really is how you eat more than what you eat. I can pretty much eat anything if the bites are small enough and chewed well enough. You'd think I'd catch on, but it still gets me once i awhile. -
Is it normal for a doctor to not give a fill???
TKW replied to Shorty81367's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My fill nurse says she has a client who has never had a fill and met her goal weight in one year! Also, my brother has not yet had a fill, he was banded in March and has lost 90+ pounds. Mindful Eating. -
I was nervous, wish I had just been excited instead because everything went GREAT and I'm so thrilled I did it! GOOD LUCK!!!
