Congrats Vicki... keep up the good work. It is very frustrating when the scale doesn't move but sometimes we don't realize the NSV's. I was just thinking last night... "OMG, my knee doesn't hurt anymore... AT ALL" I don't even know when it quit bothering me! Way to go!!!
-
I'm so sorry to hear about your problem. It could be that you just need a lot of fill to feel any restriction. I had never heard of the "band" failing prior to my surgery either. I have seen a handful of people on here who the band just does not work for. I wish you the best.
-
Oh.... that's the worse when the little ones get a hurt, and ER's take FOREVER! Glad everyone is ok and Good Luck with your Lap-Band Journey!!!
-
Hi ttiwh. Sure, teens have Lap-Band. Scroll down on the main page and you will find Forums by age... there is a teen one there where you can find info and support. I am 48 and have been over weight since I was a child too. So far I am very happy with my progress. It is a huge life style change but very do-able. Make sure you get well informed of the proceedure and life afterwards. I wish you all the best!

It is kind of a slow proceedure. The slightest bit can make you go from feeling like you can eat almost anything to not being able to eat at all. I don't think after 3 fills he will put any more in then 1cc (if that) because he won't want to get you too tight. It seems like a long process and truth be told... it is. You'll get there. Good Luck to you.

Glad it went well Tracy. Good Luck!

March Madness Challenge
TKW replied to size10again's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
TKW - 335 (not a good week, not quite sure why, I exersised 5 days at the gym, ate pretty good. Certainlty didn't over eat to the tune of gaining even a pound little lone 4!!!) But... will keep on keeping on!!! Hope you all have a good week! -
You should start keeping track of your calories/protien. Use My Fitness Pal or Fit Day, They all do the same thing. Every time you eat something make sure you log it. Include absolutely everyting you put in your mouth. I think the "average" caloric intake for a lap bander is around 1200 calories. I think you sould keep track for a couple of weeks and then see your neutritionist. Take your food logs with you. Sometimes the simplest things that we don't think of are the problem. I have an aquaintance that had lap band surgery. One day we were chatting and she had a big glass she was drinking out of. I asked her what she was drinking, she said "skim milk" " I drink 4 or 5 of these a day." That glass was at least 2 cups or more. 2 cups of skim milk is 160 calories x 5 is 800 calories. A DAY!!!!! It never even crossed her mind the calories she was getting from skim milk... she just kind of took it as a freebe. 800 Calories is all some lap-banders eat total in a day. Add the 800 calories to 1200 in food she consumed every day you have a normal diet of 2000 calories. This may not be the case for you, but I'd start by logging EVERYTHING. Good luck to you!

Beware of Tropical Smoothie!
TKW replied to hokiemama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The very last thing my surgeon said to me was "Absolutely no beverages except water, no juice, no milk, no soda. water or crystal light only, It is nothing but waisted calories, if your hungry eat something, don't drink it." (except for fill days, which I know this was for you). That has stuck with me like glue. When I hit 50 lbs lost I had a big ole glass of skim milk. Also, had a big glass of skim milk when I hit 100 lbs. LOL!!! Tasted great, I know you are not supposed to reward yourself with food... but it was milk!!! But boy, a fruit smoothie sounds yummy! -
Awww... good for you Pink. It's not easy but we can do it!!!. Good luck on your continued journey!

I guess I didn't worry about the carbs so much... but I ate a lot of cottage cheese!

Gave myself a little inspiration this morning.....

Woop Woop... good job! -
Well, I think the average calories is 1000 - 1200. I eat around 1400 and strive for 60g of protien. And you should be drinking at least 64oz of water or more.
-
I think maybe you are getting stuck because you are eating to fast or to big of a bite, not because your band is to tight (if you can eat large quantaties). You started exercising, that's a great start! Maybe if you started eating really healthy and did not snack between meals you could get on the right track and definately get back to the dr. They see this often I am sure, and they are the best people to help you. You just had a new baby... nobody is going to judge you! My clinic offers classes for their "banders" they are always having something. I have taken a couple and found them very helpful. I don't know if your clinic offers any or not but that might be an option for getting back on track??? Start keeping track of your food/calories/protien. I find that it really helps me to make better choices if I can see it on paper! You can do it!! And congrats on the wonderful new baby!!!

Congratulations!!! -
The size is right.... I'd say maybe 15 sec to 20 between bites. (that's what I do)
-
I use the application on "My lap-band Journey" It is the same as Fit-Day. It tracks my calories, fittness (calories burned) fiber, protien... the works!

How do you feel if you've "irritated" your band?
TKW replied to hautemama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Agree... food sticks more easliy and just not at all hungry. I think the only time I really irritated my band, I had something stuck, it took a long time to get it unstuck and I finally threw up very forcefully. (normally if i get something stuck i can just throw it up without much effort). I could not eat anything but mushies for a day or two and just was not hungry. -

My psyc eval was early on in the process. I only had to see her one time. I agree, just be honest. I filled out a questionaire, she looked at it, we talked for 20 minutes and I was good to go. It was a cake walk! Good luck to you!
