Sometimes... it is really really hard. You pick yourself up and start over tomorrow. It's over and done with so don't beat yourself up. If you can't resist that stuff in the check out isle... don't go there by yourself. I am 9 months post op, just yesterday I went to the grocery store and couldn't make it past the bakery without buying 2 doughnuts. They haunted me through the whole store, ashamed to say it but I left them in the Cereal isle, but they didn't go home with me and I didn't eat them. A treat, even one that is not good for you, is ok once in a while, but you really are sabatoging yourself by going soooo overboard. You can do this, i believe if I can anyone can!!! I wish you the very best of luck!

Drinking before and after eating
TKW replied to stleochic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat 2 meals a day and 1 snack. I don''t drink for 1/2 - 1 hour after I eat. I drink aprox 100 oz. of Water a day. Drinking up until I eat (or about) doesn't seem to affect me. I'm too full to drink directly after I eat. If I drink during a meal... I can eat WAY more! I see your delema. I think the biggest thing is to not drink right after you eat so you stay satisfied longer. -
Jealousy over weight loss
TKW replied to neenee717's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would inform them(or remind them) , point blank, what you've been through and remind them how unhealthy you were!!! WTH? And that "easy way out" phrase ticks me off!!! What is easy about it. It helps a lot, I honestly could not lose the weight I've lost without it, but it sure as hell has not been easy. I've changed my entire life to get healthy and along with that comes confindence and feeling good about yourself. Good for you! Keep up the good work! (sort of wondering about my sisters, they never even ask how I'm doing) -
hamburgers, I want one bad!
TKW replied to dramastarr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A hamburger is my favorite food. It is the bun that gets me not the burger. Last week I bought some of those "sandwich thins". Toasted it a little, made a nice thin burger with light mayo, ketchup onion, lettuce, tomato. Went down fine. mmmmmmmm had another one the next day!!! ( I had burger left over). It completely filled me up, had no more calories than something else I would have eaten for supper. -
YEA!!!! Good for you!

I was told for every one cup of coffee you need to drink and extra 16 oz of water. I drink decaf duing the week but Saturday and Sunday... it's nothing but the full strength!!! Lots of different toughts on coffee, just make sure you get enough water!

TKW replied to momnear40's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, you shouldn't take your calcium with your iron??? Didn't know that, did they say why? And why space the calcium? Thanks for the info - I take it all at once, will change that. -

I am 9 months out. Breakfast - I'm super tight, usually have a yogurt about 10:00am, or sometimes a piece of fruit. if I'm not hungry I don't eat until lunch. Lunch - usually a salad with lots of raw veg (carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, onion, radish, cucumber - its more veg than lettuce) with chicken, turkey, roast beef, steak, whatever left over meat I have. Sometimes a Lean Cusine or chicken salad on a sandwich thin. Supper - 4/5 oz of meat, veg and salad. sometimes a starch added in there instead of the salad because I can go several days without rice or potato and then I just really "need" it. Late Night Snack - if I have one it is usually a yogurt or a weight watcher raspberry/dark choc. ice cream bar, or a 100 calorie pack of Cookies... lol which i don't do often cuz one usually leads to two. (cookies are my weakness) -
You're just 2 weeks... chin up. I have to count calories or I'd over eat. Not because I could eat more quantity but because counting calories makes me make better choices. On 1200 calories if I make the right choices I am full and satisfied and don't think about chocolate or Cookies. If I got that 1200 calories from a blizzard and an order of fries I'd be starving the rest of the day! I can honestly say... I eat as much as I want... I'm full and satisfied (except for the occasional craving) Eat healthy, exercise and drink you Water, you'll lose the weight!

My surgeon and nutritionist (I guess my clinic) does not want any snacking for the mere fact that they want you to break that habit ~ Not to be a snacker or "grazer" as they say because they think in the long run that could lead to old habits and ultimately "failure". For the most part I try not to snack, and when I do it is an after supper thing. I just try to keep it healthy. On the other hand, I can easily eat more than 1 cup of food at a meal, and often do, it takes me about 1 1/2 cups or a smidge more, to be able to stay "full" until the next meal. I have really changed the things I eat and make way better "healthier" choices. Really... it's knowing your limits, making the right choices and being able to live with the consequences and accept responsibility for them. So many different doctors thoughts on the whole eating thing. Who really knows what's best?

New here, anyone have bmi too high for surgery?
TKW replied to good2u's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I weighed 432... have lost 106 lbs in 9 months and LOVE my band. I wish you the VERY BEST OF LUCK! -
I had this discussion with my Dr. today at a fill apt. She said you will know if it slips because you will not be able to keep anything down not even liquids. She said what causes the band to slip is usually throwing up because it forces the stomach below the band up through it. Think you just need a fill!
-
I added a fiber supplement and upped my water to 100 oz a day. Worked for me!
-
I think 6 weeks your allowed to do whatever.
-
Get to the dr. I just had a fill apointment today, I didn't get a fill but we discussed overfills. She said that if you ever EVER can't get food down to call and come in right away. People let it go and throw up from getting stuck and cause their bands to slip. She said the biggest cause of slips is that people won't come in for an unfill when they need it and then they end up throwing up with everything they eat and causing the band to slip. You are probably too tight and should go in!

March Madness Challenge

TKW 329 - just like a yo-yo! -
I would say I eat about 1 1/2 cups of food... sometimes more or sometimes less, depending on what it is i'm eating. It seems crazy, I know but 1 - 1 1/2 cups really is all you can eat. Never heard the "flour" thing before. I can eat things with flour, but those are usually the things that are not the best choices, maybe that's what he means.

lapband or bypas? I need help to decide,
TKW replied to mm0142's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, it can happen. My Doctor talked about it but seemed to indicate that it was rare, of course who knows what will happen with time. I haven't read a lot on this site where people have had erossion... but really the "band" is not that old. Best of luck to you with whatever you choose. Wish I had done it long ago!!! -
lapband or bypas? I need help to decide,
TKW replied to mm0142's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weighed over 400 pounds and the lap band has been great for me so far. I have had absolutely no issues with it. I am almost 9 months post op and have lost 101 pounds. I already feel like a new woman! I average about 10 pounds a month. I never really considered by-pass, maybe if the band had not been available I would have. The doctors at my clinic thought I was a great candidate for the band, but I see others on here that say their doctors think they weigh too much and would do better with the bypass. I feel great, I eat healthy, my blood pressure, blood sugars and colesterol are all back to normal. This would have probably happened with by pass too. I like the band for the fact that it doesn't bypass anything and I get the nutrition out of the foods I am eating. It is a tough decision, only you can make. But for the record... I LOVE MY BAND! -
I can eat all of that stuff. For me it is more the size, speed and chew of the food I put in my mouth. To big or to fast, it comes back up. Bread is my difficult item.
-
absolutely it is exercise. Lap band Journey (or Fit day) has a place you can enter your activity/exercise. I just typed in pulling weeds, 1 hour will burn 364 calories!!! Anyway you look at it, it is all about calories in vs. calories out so any activity is good! I wish the snow would go away and I could get into my flower beds... that won't be till at least May tho..... Enjoy your day!
-
LOL... that's great!!! Good For you!
-
Great Job!!! Good luck on the rest of your journey!

I had terrible hip pain, whether it is arthritis or not I don't know. I also had a knee that bothered me alot. I was sitting a home last night and all of a sudden I realized.... my knee doesn't hurt any more. NOT AT ALL! And I have noticed for quite some time that my hip bothers me a lot less too! I really have no pain in my hip anymore except some nights when I go to bed, but it doesn't bother me all day and I go to the gym daily and it never bothers me while working out. It's a great thing!!!
