Scared I'm Eating To Much!
TKW replied to Desiree123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I easily ate 2 cup until I had had a couple of fills. All part of the process, just make smart choices. -
I love(d) lasagna. I eat it once in a great while when I really have a craving for it. But a couple of bites and I'm done. One of the tricks is to learn when to quit because too full can be just a miserable as stuck! It will go away as soon as it pass' through your band or you vomit. Live and learn but remember you can eat lasagna. It might only be 4 or 5 bites but I have learned it can satisfy just as easily as 2 full pieces did! Good Luck!

Seriously Need Help! Lapband Failure
TKW replied to georgiarose77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I'll say it too. Too Tight! You have to eat. It's just not healthy to live like you are living. Your body could be in starvation mode but there are lots of different thoughts on that. I mean eventually it's got to give but what damage are you doing to your body and your organs by starving. Unfill and start eating so you can get food down! I have to wonder.... what is your Dr. thinking???? Best of Luck to you. -
Agree, Agree, Agree. 1. quit drinking if it contains calories 2. keep swimming... exercise has made all the difference for me. 3. Track absolutely everything you put in your mouth. If you use oil to cook, track it. I use MyFitnessPal but there are many web sites out there for this. It is eye opening and really, really keeps you accountable to yourself. 4. Eat the right foods. Protien first. It can be very hard but you can do it!!!!

I know. I'm usually fine with it but if I eat it fast...

Very New! Looking For Friendly Guidance And Advice
TKW replied to krkernfamily's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can eat ANYTHING. That is not to say that sometimes I don't have some serious "stuck" episodes. If I eat slow enough, and take small enough bites waiting between each bite I can eat anything. Bread, Pasta etc. I tend to stay away from these things because they can and have caused problems. But if I really really take my time... no problem. (I can eat about 1/2 of a burger with bun) One bite too many and it can also come up. I'm sure you've read these words before but I will say them again. Everyone is different. Good Luck with your decision. (best decision I've EVER made) -
my first fill was 6 weeks after surgery

yes, I've been stuck on yogurt. Too big of bite or eating too quickly?

It works so differently for everyone. Many of us struggle. They can do a test of your metabolism which would tell you how many calories your body burns in a day at rest. You could have that done and that may answer some questions for you. Perhaps you have a really slow metabolism? Hang in there!

Well, you can't "stretch" your band. It is a hard piece of plastic with a balloon type tube inside that they fill with saline, it doesn't stretch. Bands can slip, one cause being vomiting which can come from getting stuck. They say you can stretch your pouch from consistant over eating. I don't think you have anything to worry about. Relax, live and learn. Good Luck on your journey!

I can eat steak - never get stuck. Scrambled egg gets me EVERY TIME! They just won't go down.
-
omg... great ideas. Thanks!

I agree with the MyFittnessPal logging. I log absolutely everything. It will track your calories and protien. It really helps keep you accountable and you know exactly what you eat each day. Good Luck!

Any meat, pork, beef, chicken, tukey, fish. I can eat all of this but some people have trouble with certain meats. Add to this veggies, cottage cheese (great protien). Get creative. Here is my typical day. Breakfast - Greek Yogurt Lunch - Some type of sandwich on toasted bagle thin. Usually turkey or chicken or tuna salad. Sometimes egg salad. If I don't have something like this I will have a bowl of chili or a salad with left over meat from the night before. Supper - I always have a chicken breast or small piece of steak or pork chop. I usually do it on the grill. Along with a veg. I love broccolli or steamed cabbage, green beans, peas. I love all veggies. Sometimes I will add a really small potato. We are meat and potato people and every now and then I just got to have one. The potato is fine it's what you put on it. This is a typical meal plan for me . But I also eat other things. I love stir fry, or fresh walleye... mmmmm. I still eat spagetti once in a while. It amuses me cuz it really fills me up so I don't eat a cup total. I think I used to eat 6 times that amount along with garlic bread. I eat cottage cheese as a side a lot, it has GREAT protien. I really can eat just about anything, I try to cook with less fat and "extra's" but really what I eat has not changed drastically, only in quantity. I cook a lot healthier but I still eat things I always ate. I NEVER drink a protien shake or any beverage that has calories. I'd rather eat my calories then drink them.

I think being able to eat is much better. I just went out to lunch with some friends. We went to Applebees. I had a riblet basket, no fries had steamed broccolli instead. Ate the broccoli and 1 rib. I would say totalled about 300 calories. I was stuffed. Do you track your calories. If you don't you should... it is amazing how fast somethings add up. Maybe you should track for a couple of days and see how much those "slider" foods add up in calories. You might be suprised. Then make your decision.

Haven't had a problem with any. I know a lot of people have trouble with lettuce, but I eat it almost daily.
-
In my opinion, yes... you need an unfill. You are possibly eating more calories than you would with less Fluid because you are eating things that go through the band easily. I think you would be better off being able to eat solid protiens. They fill you up and keep you full. I am at my tightest point and I NEVER (rarely) get stuck. I feel that it has very little to do with what I am eating and mostly to do with how I eat. I take small bites and chew them good and eat very slow. Last night I was soooooo hungry for a hamburger. I rarely eat them but it was yummy. Ate half, was full and extremely satisfied and it went down fine. It was about 250 calories. Way less than if i had eaten things that would pass easily through my band. The key is to really find that perfect restriction and to eat foods that work with your band. Best of luck to you!

wOW...! Thanks for the tip. Sometimes if I eat to fast or it is just too big of a bite/swallow it doesn't matter how much I chew, It can get stuck. It has been 2 years since my surgery, I very rarely get stuck anymore and I can eat just about anything. It took me a long time to learn to slow down, and take small bites and make sure it is chewed good enough. Now I hardely even have to think about it, it just seems natural!

Nicki - All the stress makes it so difficult. You need to take time for you although that's not always easy. Each pound I lose motivates me, that's what really keeps me going and when I have those stints where I am losing nothing I just push through. Exercise is a key component in my weight loss. I love my band, but I credit exercise as much as I do my band. Sorry for all you are going through, and I hope that things slow down for you soon. Remember... eat healthy, make good choices and you'll do great. Hope you can find time for exercise. Best of luck to you (and your family). Oh... and Water. Keep a bottle with you at all times. We aren't always hungry but think we are or are used to shoving something in our mouths. Water, water, water, when you want to eat... drink!
-
Don't eat because of the grumbling. Drinking water is a big help. Also, maybe if you tried some protien. I was never into the protien shakes but greek yogurt or cottage cheese??? Protien really does help keep you fuller longer.

That's great! Best of Luck to you!

Why Cant You Eat And Drink At The Same Time?
TKW replied to Loneil's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well, the theory is that drinking will wash your food through your band so you will not get full and will be able to eat more. However.... there are a lot of differen theories on this and weather it makes a difference or not. For me, I definately eat more if I drink with my meal.
