I was told because it was a diuretic it will aide in dehydration. For every cup of coffee you drink you need to drink an extra glass of Water. Every doctor has a different thought on this subject. I drink regular coffee.... every day. I was told no pre-op but they (dr/nut) seem to be ok with it now?

How Do You Get All Your Protein In Besides Eating Meat?
TKW replied to donna12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As far as the protien shakes, I never drink them. I am 2+ years post surgery and have drank a total of 2 (that is pre and post op) I don't like them but obviously haven't tried many! The last thing my surgeon said was absolutely ZERO liquid calories. I try to stick to that. Sometimes tho I just have to have a glass of milk but very rarely! I think the protien shakes are great for those who have trouble getting in their protien but remember they pass right through your band so they won't help keep you full and satisfied. (supposidly???) That is my surgeons take. -
How Do You Get All Your Protein In Besides Eating Meat?
TKW replied to donna12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have probelm with any meat unless it is really dry. As far as hamburger how about meatloaf, or meatballs, sloppy joe or seasoned with taco spice to top a salad? I am a Greek yogurt fan, actually kind of addicted and eat a couple a day. Almost everything has a little protien in it, 1 - 3 grams. It all adds up. If you don't track your food you should. Myfittnesspal will track your protien along with your calories. If you have problems with meat, try smaller bites and eat slower, make sure it is moist and not over cooked. Good Luck! -
Those In The Green Zone... Do You Eat Breakfast?
TKW replied to sylviau's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i usually have a greek yogurt about 10am but when I was first banded, I never ate breakfast. about 9 months in I started eating yogurt mid morning. -
154 pounds ago... I was terrified of failing. Once you start loosing weight you'll start feeling better about it. It's a scarey thing. And that list you have... check em off one at a time, You'll get there, it will take time and hard work and struggles but it is doable and you can do it! Best of Luck to you, this forum can be a great inspiration!

Good for you, wish I had done it at 23 instead of 47! But still glad I did it. I agree, in that 6 months get educated. Knowledge about the lap band is a key to success! Best of Luck!

Ya, the sweets and snacking was my biggest fear. I've learned to snack healthy... it really helps. It's very very hard but honestly, it is up to you. You need the willpower to make it happen or it won't!

Do you have good restriction? If we decide to have pizza for supper, I can only get one piece down (depending on the pizza) I consider that healthy??? Make sure you are filling up on the good stuff, protien and veg. leave the carbs alone. You can do it dontcry! Get your head in the game and make it happen! Best of Luck to you!

Cook healthy... protien, veggies, salads. They will eat it. You don't need junk food in the house. There are plenty of treats and Snacks kids love. You might be suprised, cut up fruit... they will eat it. I can look at an apple or an orange or cantelope sit on the cupboard for days, cut it up and it gets devoured. Honestly... it is the best thing you can do for you family! They don't have to go hungry or be deprived of all "sweets" but it certainly can only benefit them to eat healthy.

Went To Get Egd I Dont Have A Hernia :(
TKW replied to vmarlau's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hmmm. seems odd to me too. My Dr. didn't know I had a hernia until he did the surgery. Same thing with my brother. But seems odd they'd pay for the band if you had a hernia? -
LOL... nice work super sluthes!

I eat 1200 calories a day also. My weight loss has been very slow the past few months. I really think it just happens. There is no reason we should not lose on 1200 cal. a day. Congrats on the new baby!

Thinking Of Lapband-Have Lots Of Questions
TKW replied to Florida Geezer's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
LOL... wow Does it emiminate hunger - physical hunger, yes helps greatly, head hunger - that's a different story. Is my diet different - well yes, but I can pretty much eat anything. It's more different because I had to choose to eat healthier and cut sweets, carbs and fat from my diet. I can honestly say, I don't miss anything. Yes, it is easy for me to eat less, much... much easier. Blood pressure normal, colesterol normal, blood sugars normal. Joints don't hurt and I have so much more energy. Life is great and I still have a ways to go. I started loosing weight from the get go. I had restriction right away but a lot of people don't. I consistantly lost 10 - 12 pounds a month for the first 8 months. Now it is a little harder but still losing Personally... I think follow up is one of the keys to success. They say the people who usually fail are the people who don't do the followups with their Dr. Some people never need an adjustment. I know of a couple who never had a one... however, that is pretty rare I think. Hope my answers helped. It is very very different for everyone. Go to an informational meeting at your hospital. You can get lots of good info/answers there. Best of Luck -
Is Anyone Nervous About Sagging Skin After?
TKW replied to kittylove32's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope, depending on how old you are, how heavy you are and genetics... it is what it is. I am certain that I will have to have something done once I have lost all my weight but I was VERY heavy and am 49 years old. I've lost 154 pounds and have a ways to go, so far... my tummy isn't terrible but my arms and thighs bother me.
