My First Pasta Experience
PattyB57 replied to blissa033's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too love pasta! I am only 2 weeks post op so I'm not even there yet to try it. BUT, this is what my Dr. told me about Pasta. He said that as you chew pasta and white bread they turn to paste. This paste then starts to gum up the opening to your stomach. This made a lot of since to me so I think I will most likely try WW Pasta but not white pasta.... Hope this helps someone out!! -
1st day post op need help
PattyB57 replied to txsnow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on your BANDING!! I was given the rule of thumb to do 8oz in 30 minutes or at least 8 oz per hour by sipping. I'm so glad that you are feeling pretty good. You might want to try room temp water as opposed to ice water. Some times the ice water can cause the gas pains to erupt. Sounds strange, but true for some of us anyhow. Anyway, I hope this helps you out. -
YOU ARE GOING TO BE HUNGRY HUNGRY HUNGRY
PattyB57 replied to cheryl2586's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh My Yes, THANK YOU Iowaguy!! I so agree with your post back to Fluffy, I could not have said it better myself. Fluffy seems very dissapointed in her BAND. I am 12 days post op and have not felt hunger yet. I have read that I will and I have read that I might not. I choose to be positive about all of this and just love the journey. I am looking forward to this NOT being another diet but teaching me to be a small eater. I hope that everyone has a safe and pleasant journey to the thin side of life! Be Happy! Patty -
Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
PattyB57 replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was also BANDED Dec. 30th about 9 a.m. in San Antonio TX. Got to the surgery Center about 6 A.M. as my sister was going to go first. All went pretty much according to schedule. I woke up in quite a bit of pain and my blood pressure was pretty high. They gave me like 3 doses of morphine but it really was not doing much good. My sister was in a little better shape. They got me up and walking and then to drink the juice while they took my xray. Everything was good. My Mom and my Daughter were with us so we drove on home to Austin about 1.5 hours, having to stop every 20 minutes to walk per Doctors instructions. So I am 9 days in and doing pretty good. Not really sick of the liquids because I really feel no hunger. YEA!! I realize this might not last but I also know that it could. Take care everyone!! Patty -
2 DOCS with 2 Different Approaches - Need to pick 1
PattyB57 replied to durangogurl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I guess my question to you is are you self pay or are you going through insurance? If you are going to go through your insurance they will have a set of hoops to jump through. If you are self pay then I would go through the easy way myself. The only thing is I would go on a 2 week preop diet on my own just to make sure that my liver was in great shape for the surgery. I am going to be banded on the 30th and have been on the Atkins diet for the last 2 weeks per my Dr. For sure the choice is yours but I think you can do easy & safe. Just my opinion... Good Luck!! -

OMG!! Good for you and I am so very happy you are doing so good! I go to San Antonio Tomorrow to be banded on Thursday morning. I am the 2nd of the day, my sister is first! Congrats!! -
For a pre-mixed protein drink I like EAS, chocolate. Have not tried the vanilla. Put it in a blender with some ice and not bad at all. I drink it straight out of the bax to. Give it a try, I don't think you will be sorry. My Dr. said no Mussell Milk, not sure why.

To or Not To do Pre-Op Diet
PattyB57 replied to ~Sabrina K~'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You don't want to wake up and be told that your liver was to big for them to put the band on. Do the 2 week preop diet and you won't have to worry about that at all. I also did Atkins for my 2 week diet, much easier then the liquid but both do the same job. Being banded the 30th. Good luck to you! -

Good Luck on Wednesday! I am going in on Thursday! So excited I can't wait. I did great over the holidays, no cheating for me. I am not going to say that it was easy, but I have to admitt that it is much easier on me with Atkins then you all doing liquid. Can't wait to hear how it goes!! Patty -

PattyB57 replied to rather be scrapbooking's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Everyone! I am being banded on the 30th. Went in yesterday for my preop appiontment and it went very well. My 2 week preop diet is Atkins. I was so thrilled when they told me that after reading all the post about others being on the liquid diet for 2 weeks. For Christmas I am fixing a brisket, ham, chicken along with green Beans and salad. For the others in the family there will be mac & cheese, rolls and pie. I will have a nice Jello. I am keeping my eye on the prize! Nothing would be worth waking up in recovery and being told they could not do the banding do to the size of the liver. NOTHING Girls!!!! Can't wait to hear about all of your POSTOP stories! Patty from Austin, TX -
That is wonderful! My surgery is the 30th. Very excited!

Something doesn't jive right with me about specific Pre-Op diet
PattyB57 replied to TXNurse77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel for you all that are on the liquid diet. My Dr. put me on Atkins for 2 weeks, which I started today. Being BANDED December 30th, Austin TX. I feel like the pre op diet is just the begining of my new life. I don't have to wait until the 30th to start my journey. -
Dec 30th for Me
PattyB57 replied to mind-over-matter's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also banded on the 30th! Started preop diet today. I feel very lucky to be on Atkins instead of liquid. I am so excited to be doing this. I have only told my family & my boss. My sister is doing it also, same day, we live together so I am counting on pretty smooth sailing. I did not want to tell anyone just for that reason, I don't want everyone watching me either. Oh and I can lose the weight I just put it right back on. Good luck and lets just do this!! -
December 15th is Banding day!!!
PattyB57 replied to new@52's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Amy, I will be banded Dec. 30th and start my preop diet the 17th. It is also high protien. You are one of the few that seems to be like me. Good luck to all of us!! Patty from TX -
As of today I have my pre-opt and surgery date on the books! I am so excited I can't even think straight enough to work. I will start my pre-opt diet on Dec. 17th. I felt very lucky that it is The Atkins Diet and not the liquid diet so many seem to be on. I am looking so forward to this journey into a new life. I have great family support and I know that I will be 100% sucessfull along the way. My process started August 27th and at that time it seemed forever till December, but here it is. I am thrilled to start the New Year with a great tool to lose all the weight I have never been able to lose. I am going to San Antonio to the Turning Point Surgery Center for my Banding. My sister is doing it at the same time. Any one been there? Would love to hear about it!!

Another banded newbie

Hi Lyndsay, so good to see your story. I too am in Austin. My sister and I are going through True Results. We just got our insurance approval yesterday. We are very excited. Our surgery is set for Dec. 30th and we just can't wait. We start low carb (Atkins) on Dec. 17th. Can't wait! We should start a "I'm from Austin thread!" Hang in there I just know it will get easier and easier for you. I think most of us have the same food issues so it is easy to relate. Let us hear how you do as time goes on. -
Oh yes believe me March will indeed be here before you know it. I want to wish you all the luck in the world. Stick with the program and do what you need to do. You can do it and the time will fly by. My sister and I started our journy in late August 2010. We had our last office visit for all the insurance requirements on Nov. 29th. True Results called us both on Dec. 8th and told us that we were both approved by our insurance co. It was a very big monment for us. You go through all the red tape for months and just pray that it will be approved and just like that it was. At this time both of us are scheduled for surgery Dec. 30th, 2010. We can't wait! I will start off at 268 or there abouts. My goal is 125 - 130. I am so excited!
