hard time transitioning
RandomRan replied to Ange2992's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I suck at throwing out food. I hate to do it. What I do instead now is freeze leftovers into appropriate serving sizes so I can't pick at them without thawing and heating the whole meal. -
They took the liquid out of my band - help!
RandomRan replied to Phx_Jazz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Elfie said it perfectly. This may be exactly what you need to be able to get accustomed to veggies and healthy foods again. Once you are properly filled and not overfilled, you will be able to drop weight more effectively. Stay strong and hang in there. You will do great! -
I ate to soon and I'm petrified. PLEASE Help!
RandomRan replied to TrailAngel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Being honest with your Dr. is a must. With that said, as long as you didn't feel stuck, feel the food trying to get past your band, I doubt you have caused any damage. Some people can't eat without it ticing or it making them throw up until further down the road. You will see your Doc tomorrow. Don't lose sleep over it tonight. {{{{{ Hugs }}}}} -
Lap Band Removal

So sorry for your expierence. Best of luck to you. -
I think you are making a great decision. As far as your daughter goes, I think you are setting a fabulous example for her about priorities and sticking to your guns. When she is out from under your roof, she will be tempted to drink and drive, try drugs, have to make decisions about safe sex. You are showing her that the fun thing and the tempting thing is not always the healthy or smart thing, and by you giving up your holiday baking, you are setting a great example about making healthy choices. Kudos to you! You sound like a great mom.

20 Weeks & I'm half way there!!!!

Nicely done girl!!! You RAWK! -
You are kicking ass! Look how much you have already lost ... through Halloween, Thanks Giving ... Maybe you should right down the behaviors you feel you need to work on, then try to implement and master them one at a time. Each week, add one new behavior. Personally, I think you are rockin' this thing. The "basics" you said were hard to master ARE hard to master. You have come a long long way! Keep it up!

RandomRan replied to Tony O.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What you can do and what you should do are not always the same thing. I think I likely could have as well, but I did what the doc recommended and didn't. From what I have seen, the people who see if they can beat the band do not end up losing weight until after a couple of fills. If that is OK with you, that is your choice and there is nothing wrong with it, but if you want results now, start listening to your doctor's recommendations now knowing in a month or two, it will get much easier to restrict your calories. Oh, and you are eating like normal because your swelling is gone and your band is empty. Some people can, others can't. Just as you would not wonder what is wrong with your clock when the power is out, your band is "plugged in" but there is no power in the outlet yet. Right now it is sort of just hanging out around your stomach until the fill tightens it. -
Weird issues at the port. Theory of what I think is going on.

Thanks! Congrats to you almost Onderlanders! -
Over your ribs sounds too high! When you lose all your weight, won't it be sitting ON your ribs? I feel like mine is not deep enough. I am 5 weeks post-op and still have to sit with my jeans open for it to not hurt. If you run your hand over my port site, you can feel it without pushing. Anyone else have a port that they can feel that close to the skin? Does the discomfort from clothes go away when you are completely healed?

My first week after surgery, when I was on liquids, my mother-in-law was in town and they decided that would be a good time the two of them to make a pot roast in the slow cooker ... to make the house smell yummy for 6 hours ... while I sat on the couch in pain recovering from surgery with my Protein drink and jello! While they were in the kitchen cutting and prepping, I called my sister in tears in the living room. Jon came in and saw me crying and asked what was wrong. He literally just didn't think it through. He swearers it was just a lack of understanding what I was going through, not a lack of support. He went back in the kitchen and unplugged the cooker, then brought it outside and plugged it in in the back yard. Problem solved. Instead of saying, "you are a sabotaging prick and I won't stand for it," maybe you should start the conversation by saying, "I really need your help. I'm struggling with will power through the holidays, and wonder if you could help me get through it by not baking or keeping my weakness foods in the house ..." Men LOVE to be needed and feel like they are rescuing their ladies.

Scale Dilemma! What would you do?
RandomRan posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ugggg! I had to change the battery on my scale on Sunday morning. Sat morning, I weighed 179. Sunday, 182!!! I was hoping it was the changing of the battery and thrilled my doc appt. was Monday so I could see how the doc's scale compared. Two weeks prior, the doc's scale was 4 lbs heavier than mine (dressed at the doc, not at home). This Monday, the doc's scale was 1 lb. heavier than mine. I am so relieved I did in fact lose 3.6 lbs in two weeks according to the doc's scale. Now the dilemma ... I have been logging my weight loss progress, starting weight, etc. from my scale. Now my scale is reading 3 lbs heavier than it used to. What do I do with my ticker! Do I add the three lbs so I am logging true to my scale, or do I log it as 179 even though my scale says 182. I hate to not give myself the credit for losing more weight, but it feels like lieing to myself to put 179 as my weight when my scale says 182! What would you all do? -
Hi Rhonda. Just wanted to give you an update. My first fill was 6.4 on Monday. I had eggs and string cheese earlier today. Tonight I had chicken and green Beans for dinner. No trouble at all with any of the above.

First Fill and so excited!
RandomRan replied to Sun Rae's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
AWESOME! Keep it up! I get excited when I see people that are so motivated. My first fill was 2 days ago. I was so excited and proud that I took off over 30 lbs before my first fill. I was HUNGRY but determined. Just kept telling myself it was not forever and help controling the hunger was on the way! -
Yes, it is because you are not filled. Until you are properly filled, you will have little to no restriction. Also, remember that it takes 2,3,4 fills for most of us to get to our "sweet spot." Don't get worried or down if your first fill doesn't do the trick. That is normal. Just remember that it WILL happen You have two choices. 1) Muster up the will power to start losing now knowing it will be much easier to maintain your success once you are properly filled. 2) Wait it out and know that there will be a time you will be filled correctly and don't beat yourself up if you don't lose weight in the process. Best of luck however you decide to tackel it.

I write down EVERYHTING I put in my mouth. I like the online tracker method myself because when you select a food, it automatically enters your calories. Foods you don't find you can enter as a custom food once, and it will forever be in there for you to select again. I even entered a custom food called "random calories" on mine, so if I take a bit of something, I account for it. I helps me make better choices like weather or not I really need the dressing on my grilled chicken. Full fat cheese is a big fat waste of calories to me now too. It's right in your face when you journal it. For me, it's one of the most important parts of me staying on track.

Scale Dilemma! What would you do?
RandomRan replied to RandomRan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks guys! That will be the plan then. Leave it until it goes back down. Today it actually was back down to 180. My first fill was Monday and all I have had is liquids and mushies for 2 days, so hopefully it stays off. I like the idea of only entering the lows when it bounes around a little bit. Also, I need a new scale. I heart costco. I will look there. Thanks all ! -
can i take ibuprofen for sore throat after the lap band surgery?
RandomRan replied to mell's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did a Goggle search and read three different places it is OK for Lap-Band as long you you do not have prior stomache ulcer issues. Gastric Bypass can never take NSAIDS, but Lap Band folks seem to be ok. One doctor's site said it is ok, but may irritate some patient's stomaches during recovery. He recommended liquid ibuprofen on his site saying it works better for some patients than narcotic pain meds for pain management during rcovery. -
Hi there. My first fill was yesterday. Doc started with 4 cc's. Then he had me drink Water ... added more ... had me drink water ... added more ... When I was at 7 cc's, it hurt a little when the water went down. He took out .6 cc's, leaving me with 6.4 for my first fill. Yesterday was liquids, today mushies ... I have not had any trouble at all. Water going down fine, mushies going down fine ... no pain, no PB's, not throwing up. As I am still on mushies, I don't know yet if I have any restriction yet either. We shall see. Doc says if in 4 weeks, I have no restriction at all, we'll do fill #2. If I have any restriction at all, we will wait 6 weeks. Do you cary more of your weight in your butt and thighs than your tummy? Doc said that people with less fat in their tummy areas require bigger fills than people bigger in the stomache area.
