I started out at 364 pounds. I was taking two pills for blood pressure and one for cholesterol. My blood glucose was rising with an A1C of 6. My BMI was at 53.
When I attended my first seminar I really didn’t think that surgery was an option for me. I had assumed that my insurance would not cover the procedure. Plus I always thought that I could lose the weight on my own. After the seminar I decided to explore the possibility. I am very glad that I did.
The following Monday I contacted my insurance company and was very surprised to find out that they did cover bariatric surgery.
I did a lot of research on line and decided to go with the Lap Band. I understood that the process would take longer with the Lap Band, but I decided that an extra couple of years would be nothing compared to the rest of my life.
The pre-surgery seminars and counseling was a very important time in the process. This really helped me develop the winning mentality for the surgery. I learned a lot in that period and I believe that it was a major factor in my success. The other thing that I found was that the liquid diet prior to the surgery really helped me break some of my old habits. I think that strictly following the liquid diet (I lost 20 pounds in that 15 days) helped me to exceed my goals for the surgery.
I am now nine moths post operative. I have lost 140 pounds (without a flll). I am far beyond were I expected to be at this point. By cholesterol is at 133, my glucose is at 85, and my blood pressure is at 106 / 69. I feel far more energetic than I have in the past 15 years. Dr Ratis is very happy with my progress (and so am I).
I am very glad that I decide to follow through with the process and look forward to the continuing benefits of a healthier life.
July 24, 2012 -- have still not had a fill. It really is about changing your lifestyle!
I am now down 170 pounds after 1 1/2 years. This has been a life changing experience for me.
