I have finally reached an appt with the surgeon. After the initial visits and phsych reviews, 5% weight loss and numerous blood tests...the day will finally be here on 2/5. I thought I was ready but I find myself getting more and more nervous lately over it. I know I definitely still want to go through with the lapband surgery but it is becoming a reality now. I only started 2 1/2 months ago and when I first went in they said it could be 6 months to a year before I am at this stage...I am glad it wasn't that long, but now I am more anxious to have this part over and start my new lifestyle. I heard it should only be about 6 weeks after this initial visit with the surgeon so looks like it is just around the corner - right around my birthday...what a great birthday present .

Hi Buffy, I am in the same situation right now. I just made my first appt with the surgeon here in NH. I am getting so anxious to see how the weight comes off and looking forward to a new lifestyle and look. My start weight was 291, I had to lose 5% so I am now down to 272. My goal is to loose another 120 to 130 lbs after all is said and done. Good Luck with your journey!

hi there - I just signed up for this forum and found lots of helpful suggestions. It helps to hear from people who know what you are going through. I am in the process of scheduling my lapband and hope to have it done in the next month or 2. Just need to lose about 4 more lbs. I am sure I will be visiting often and looking for advise or just acknowledgement that I am not alone. I have support at home, but my husband doesn't really understand how I feel and why this is so important to me. My current weight is 291 or was before I started this journey. I am down to about 280 right now. My goal is to be down below 160 when all is said and done. bleb0803 New Hampshire

I understand that...being obese most of my life, I am ready for a change. it took me 3 years to make this final decision, but I am so ready right now.

They said it was because it decreases the size of the liver so it is easier to manipulate during the surgery. The bigger the liver the harder it is to hold up to place the band and sometimes causes it to get bruised. It was only 5% of my current weight so not too bad. I had lost that much many times before
