  1. My husband isn't like that, but my mom is, always has been. I tell her what my dad tells her: "Mind your own plate."

    why am i hungry ?

I haven't had a fill yet and I'm starving, depressed, and stressed out. I look at everyone's else's weightloss tickers and feel horrible because I'm not losing and I feel like a big fat failure less than one month after being banded.
  3. You might also be having panic attacks. It took me at least six months to be able to sleep the whole night through with my CPAP (and my pressure is 18, sigh). I don't think my apnea has anything much to do with my weight, since my doc says my nasal passages are abnormally narrow and everyone in my family has it regardless of weight, but I'm hopeful that weight loss will lessen it some. You just have to keep on using the CPAP to get used to it.

    I'm lost......

From what I can tell, a two week postop appt is pretty standard, so I don't think they're slacking there.

    Have not exercised

I looked around and found a snorkel for lap swimming and training. It's called the Swimmer's Snorkel by Finis and it seems to run about $35. I think I'll give it a go soon! Thanks for the idea.

    Have not exercised

I would like to swim with a snorkel but I would feel silly at the Bally's fitness. God knows I already feel silly there as it is--being fat and out of shape and having chronic fatigue syndrome. I need to just butch it up.
  7. Hi guys, I'm in bandster hell right now--where you haven't had a fill yet and you're starving. Sigh. I posted about it yesterday in the November 10 forum, but that seems to be sparsely attended. I ate too much at Thanksgiving, but I'm back on the wagon again as of Friday.
  8. I'm doing pretty well. Looking forward to Thanksgiving! I plan on opening a bottle of sparkling pinot grigio--let's see how that goes. I'm not having much hunger between meals nor having any problems with my soft mushy food. I just had a slice of challah and enjoyed it.

    Post op diets

I was banded 11/4 and was allowed mushy as of last Thursday. I must say I'm pleasantly surprised at how it's been going so far. I've had zero problems keeping any food down, no PBs, and I don't chew as well or eat as slowly as you're supposed to. (I keep forgetting!) I don't have much hunger between meals. I've been sticking fairly easily to a 1000 calorie a day diet. My first fill is 12/16, but I bet I don't need any more after that.

    Introductions:

Hi, I'm Laura. I was banded 11/4. I live on Long Island in a big old house with my husband, teenage son and daughter, two beagles and one foxhound. I'm a freelance writer and antiques expert. I also have chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. My weight started creeping up when I got CFS--I was always skinny up till my mid 20s. Now I'm--sigh--325 pounds. I'm six feet tall.
  11. I started crying in the hospital when I was told about not taking ibuprofen. For me, it would have been a dealbreaker if I'd known about it before surgery since I suffer from severe fibromyalgia. The surgeon later on told me I can take ibu if I take it with a Mylanta or similar and don't take it too often. Actually I've been taking it every day (since I've taken it every day for, oh, I dunno, 20 years or so) and I've had no problems. As of yesterday, I'd lost 8 pounds in the two weeks since I was banded and I'm allowed to progress to mushy food now. Yay, no more stupid shakes.
  12. Good luck, brownsugar! And thanks, guys. I think I also had PMS yesterday so was extra crabby. Sigh. I weigh 330 pounds. OW IT HURT TO TYPE THAT. I'm six feet tall and muscular (and female, obviously). I'd like to weigh about 190. Well, really, I used to look very hot at 160 when I was 20 years old, but I'm not sure I have a hope in hell of getting back there! I'll settle for under 200. (Funny, I can remember being in college and a friend of mine said she was over 200 pounds and I thought "How can anyone let themselves go like that?" Ha ha ha, 20-year-old-me. Ha.)
  13. I'm feeling panicky and depressed looking at everyone else's weight loss tickers. I've lost maybe 10 pounds after 3.5 weeks of shakes, whereas many of the rest of you have lost more than twice that! Why am I not losing weight faster? I feel like cutting down on my shakes. Plus, I'm just so TIRED of those everloving shakes. Last night I sneaked a slice of roast beef (thin, deli cut) off my husband's leftover sandwich and God it tasted good. I think I'm anemic or something. I just feel down and like this is yet another failure for me to control my weight again.
  14. Good luck, topazz! I'm sure you're in the PACU already!
  15. Thanks for the support, guys! It's much appreciated. I feel much, much better today. It's just so frustrating when something hurts and you don't know how to make it better and the pain meds aren't working either! I'm down about 15 pounds from pre-surgery, and I feel a bit thinner. It's probably psychosomatic since I weighed so much to start with! But I'm on my way. And hugs to everyone--we're all in this together.
  16. Not happy. Every day is exactly the same since I came out of the hospital on Friday: pain, exhaustion, it never seems to get any better. And I'm so TIRED of the smell of that damned protein powder! UCK. I'm sick of the pain and I'm sick of not being able to drive.
  17. As I said on the other thread, banded 11/4, and still have quite a bit of pain in the abdomen, not sure what it is. Gas? Hunger? Drank too much, too fast? Surgery pain? I don't know. I'm still weak and shaky, too, but I also have CFS/FM, so that has something to do with it. Trying to keep up with the stupid Protein drinks. I don't think you newly banded folks should go to restaurants! It's too much to ask!
  18. I'm confused too (banded on 11/4). I don't know whether the pain down there is gas, hunger, surgery pain, or whether I've drunk too much liquid. It just basically feels full and painful.
  19. I have two weeks of those horrendous protein shakes ahead of me. I don't want it, I want some real food that doesn't taste awful or sweet. I'm supposed to be on clear liquids today still but I might have some tomato soup and damn the torpedos.
  20. I got my band on Thursday and came out of the hospital yesterday. I have been in terrible pain and nothing is touching it--bear in mind that I have chronic pain usually and my experience is not necessarily what everyone else will have. I'm still on clear liquids. No hunger, but it's hrd for me to remember to sip drinks instead of just chugging them down as usual.
  21. Thanks! At least I'm the first patient of the day....means I don't have to sit around dying of thirst and hunger all day.
  22. My day is tomorrow! I'm not sure if that feeling in my stomach is nervousness, excitement, or lack of food!
  23. My apnea is severe too, and it probably took me six months before I was able to wear it without ripping the mask off in a panic attack in the middle of the night. Keep on with it and you do get used to it. And the consequences to untreated apnea can be dire. Keep in mind that lots and lots of thin people have apnea too. In my case it's because my nasal passages are abnormally narrow, not because of my weight.

    Pre-op diet hell

I'm on day 5. I'm not really hungry, but I am so BORED of sweet, mushy food. I don't really like sweets all that much. I don't want this stupid liquid breakfst--I want a boiled egg and a piece of toast! How sad is it when a boiled egg is your object of desire? heh.
  25. Ah. I do have severe apnea. Maybe that's the difference. lashonda, stay strong! This is something you can do. I'm surprised at how I've been actually able to follow this diet. Make sure you get enough protein! That really helps with hunger. And if you're tempted by real food, try something like salsa without chips instead. We're pulling for you!
