My name is Amanda and I live in Minnesota with my husband and 2 cats. I come from a family with a history of obesity (though because we are all extremely short - I'm 4'11" and the tallest is only 5'4" - the BMI chart isn't super useful for us) and have struggled with my weight since I was a teen. In high school I turned to Meth to help control my appetite, and as I grew up and grew out of that phase of my life I found it once again difficult to control my weight. Last year I found out that my insurance company would cover the surgery with few obstacles required, and since then have been on a journey to get this surgery done. I found out on 10/6/10 that I was approved for surgery and am looking forward to November 2nd, my surgery date. Along the way I have had some setbacks and struggles. I found out in July that I have a Hiatal hernia, but my surgeon assured me that he can fix it while he is in there. I have also continued to gain weight despite efforts to begin losing. My hope is that I am successful with this surgery and my husband and I can begin a family when my body is healthy enough to bear a child.
