Ok, I’m getting close to my goal weight. So once I get there how do I maintain without losing below my goal. I’m still eating about 4 to 4 ½ oz meals. That’s all I can handle right now. Any suggestions would be great. Should I try to add a extra meal in somewhere?

Drinking before and after eating
thmsdoyle replied to stleochic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm out four months, I eat 4 oz meals 3 times a day. If I snack I eat 1oz of cheese this way its adding Protein to my diet. I also drink milk, adds protein, Calcium and counts for Fluid. I also keep a bottle of Water at my bedside, if i wake up enough to know I'm rolling over I take a small drink. Normally I get any where from 5 to 8 oz this way. I stop drinking 15 to 20 minutes before I eat, I start drinking 50 to 60 minutes after I eat kinda depends what I had. All protein I wait the full 60 minutes, 50% protein and 50% veggies or fruit usually around 50 minutes. It really is where you can fit it in for fluids, but I don't snack alot for this reason. It does give me more time to consume liquids. -
Eating after the lap band
thmsdoyle replied to mutlyp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with Vicky. The band is a tool not a cure all. You have to go into this in the correct frame of mine and the dedication to follow it through. It was a bit difficult in the beginning days of my life style change. But now 4 months into my new life, it is much easier. The band alone will not help you, YOU have to use the band to help YOU gain control with over eating. Read, research, and ask questions before deciding if the band is right for you. -
Eating after the lap band
thmsdoyle replied to mutlyp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on Dec. 2nd of 2010. I weigh all of my meals, I eat 3 to 3 1/2 oz meals at this time. It will increase as I get further out from surgery. Weighing is better for me, I'm not the best judging what a cup of food looks like. 3 oz of chicken is alot more than 3 oz of carrets and green beans. Though I have only been in a resturant 4 times after banding, I still weigh my food. I found a digital pocket scale at Harbour freight for $20.00, fits in your pocket or purse. Yes some people look at you alittle funny, but I really don't care. I am rarely hungrey or get the feeling that I'm starrrrrrrrrrrvvvvvvvvvvvvvvving, If I do start to get hungry I just have a protein drink. This tides me over well. -
December 2010 Bandsters out there?
thmsdoyle replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on 12/2. I stuck with 2 oz meals for my first few weeks. I stay away from all beef right now, it digest very slow and causes me to fill bloated for a long while. Thus during this time I can't drink for a few hours. I stick with lean turkey slices, ham slices, and chicken breast. Eat very slowly, takes me about 35 minutes when eating chicken breast and I take very small bites. My 3 year old grandson takes larger bites than I. Over all meals are not to bad for me. Supplemental protein is my issues, tried several but all cause me to fill uncomfortable with indigestion. Not getting protein in on a daily basis, this is getting better as I go along. Hope it gets better for you. -

I'm 2 1/2 weeks out from my band. The first few days I took food very slow. I had yogart (plain vanilla), cream of chicken soup, and sipped on fluids all day. When my stomach was empty it gives me a indigestion kind of a feeling, like a half upset stomach. But once I eat that feeling goes away. I'm sticking with 2 oz meals. Are you taking prolosec or any thing to reduce stomach acid production? It will get better after a few days.

December 2010 Bandsters out there?
thmsdoyle replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello: I was banded 12/2 all went very well, actually went home the same day but it was late. Only pain I ever had was at the port sight, actually this still is tender. Liquid Lortab for pain control was really really bad, I struggled with that for two days then gave up on it. The taste of that was worst than the pain I was having. I am struggling getting enough liquids in each day and my protein. The protein drinks/powder cause me to fill bloated for hours, then drinking anything just causes me to feel more uncomfortable. Just started eating some solid food (eggs) today that went very well. As others have mentioned my energy level is very low, i'm sure its from the lack of protein at this time. The last two days I have felt better but still have a was to go, I'm waiting to see what real food will do for this. I have already weighed in today and have lost 23 lbs since surgery. Good luck to everyone, remember it is a new process and learning curve for us. There will be bumps in the road along our journey. Learn, and gain knowledge on how to use our tool to help us through. -
Good luck today. I'm sure your surgery is over by now. Best wishes on your new journey.

It seems to have gone bye quickly. 8 am surgery time. I'm a little nervous, anxious, and excited all at once. All day everyone at work has said " are you ready, are you sure this is what you want". HELL YEAH. I'm hoping my sponsers are ready, I can see some roller coaster emotions coming down the road. BUT I can get through that. I don't think there will be much sleeping tonight.

Surgery went well one hour in and out to recovery. Up walking every two hrs. No pain to speak of other than my abdomen feels like I have been punched several times. No throbbing pain of any kind. Hurts a little bit getting out of bed, this is the worst of it. No nausea / vomitting. Came home the same day was late discharge at 10 pm. Hopefully just a few days of this abdomen pain and on to our new lives.
