I have been over weight since adolescence and have tried every diet imaginable. The only time I truly lost weight and kept if off for a significant time was when taking Phen-fen.  I then developed an irregular heartbeat and had to discontinue using it. After losing both of my parents to cancer only 6 months apart I knew I had to get myself together. I have always exercised but couldn't control my food. I love to cook and eat good, quality food. My portions were always enormous. I've been a size 14-16 the past 2 years weighing 226 lbs and felt terrible about myself. I noticed that I could barely fit into a movie seat and that was depressing. I have a very active family who are all fit. I didn't want my kids to be embarrassed of me anymore. This was a a wakeup call to find a permanent solution. After researching doctors I was referred to Dr. Bhoyrul through my insurance (they did not cover my procedure). After meeting with him I knew he was the one I would use. My insurance denied my coverage as my BMI was at 40 which they considered morbidly obese but I did not have co-morbidities.  I had also been suffering from a hiatal hernia for quite some time and had begun vomiting in my sleep which I knew was dangerous. I decided it was time to take care of that as well. I had my hernia repair the same time as my lap band, Memorial Weekend 2010.  To date I have lost 32 lbs with most of the weight coming off the first 6 weeks. I workout 4-5 days per week doing cardio, Zumba and weightlifting and eat small meals. I am starting to lose clumps of hair and my weight loss has stalled the past few weeks. I have had 3 fills and my 4th will be tomorrow which should bring my total saline to 5cc's.
