Hi I was banded 3/12 in Boston, Ma @BIDMC everything went well. I had some heart issues whicwre also handled well. I also had a hernia repair at same time. I t is so amazing to have others to share our experiences with. I was able to come home the next day after surgery. I am on heparin injections to also prevent blood clots and I also try to walk at least 4 x day but after reading here maybel I should do more. I know I am not eating enough protein but I cannot drink much more than I do. I have to keep drinking !!!! It is very motivating to hear from others going thru the same thing. After this post I will have one of my protein shakes. Just wondering if anyone here is able to swallow any pills. my usually pills are allot and I have een crushing them and putting them in jellow or applesauce but it stll is pretty foul. I am on a 3 week liquids only diet which is not an issue as I hve no appitite at all. Hope to stay in touch

MommaB replied to SassySenior's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome Katie We share many of the same issues as I am 63 and started this journey last Nov. Because of my health issues (CAD,Diab, copd.Arthritis, sleep apnea, etc) I have had to have extensive tests which all have taken lots of time. I thought I would had this done by now. Be patien and keep trying to lose. Although I do not keep up with the weight tracker, I am sure somebody can help. This is a great support system. There is even a chat set up also. Hope to see you there. I live in the Boston area and hope to have this done soon. Good luck Hope we can stay in touch. Its differern for us and much harder but it can work and be very successful. I am 63 and still going thru all the pre-testing. The latest hang-up has been an elevated "para-thyroid intact" which has to do with my kidneys and perhaps could effect food absorbtion. It has been very frustrating but I have a multitude of health issues. I keep hearing how successful others have been and just hope and pray that I will soon be able to add my successes withall of you. Glad to hear that there were no complications. Keep up the good work. Have added some extra vit D and will have repeat lab work in Sept. I sure hope to have surg by Oct-Nov. -

Hello Over 60's Group I am also in this group stepping in at 63 in June. I have been debating getting this done for more than 5 yrs now and have finally made my first appt for next week. I am scared silly but I know if I do not have this proceedure I will not live much longer. I have a ton of health issues and i'm just plain tired of all the pain and suffering. This is not a magic solution and I need to make major changes. Hopefully we can all get through this together. I look forward to staying in touch with all of you and together we can all accomplish healthier lives. Nice to know that I am not alone. Source: 60 or Older?

Hi Nicki Thanks for responding. I chose the lapband because it was the least invasive. I have several medical issues and my docs think is the safest for me. I had a heart attack in 97 followed by triple bypas and also have diab, copd, sleep apnea and other complications. My fear is not the banding but the actual anesthesia part. I have had bad experiences in the past. I am getting over my fear slowly but surely...lol The more I talk about it the better I feel. Long journey ahead but one I need to start. I am 5' 2" and 287 lbs/ My goal is 160
