  1. Hello there Redoz, good to hear you are coming along nicely...albeit some frothing problems. I didn't have that at all...at least not yet. I am to see my surgeon next week, and presume I will get my first fill then. I'm probably needing it too, as I have been experiencing some hunger. I also think I've been eating a bit too much sometimes, as I get a pain on my left side after eating...or perhaps I am eating too quickly. I will ask all the questions when I see the doc... Welcome Pene and hope to hear about your experiences as well.

    October 2010 Bandsters!!

I too am not telling colleagues, family and friends of my lapband decision, and when people comment on my weight loss, I just smile and say, yes, I'm following my Doctor's orders....and getting healthier every day. Others don't have to know, and you can hold your head high, because you are doing all the work. The band is only a tool, afterall, certainly NOT the easy way out, as those judgemental people presume...
  3. Hi there, going very well indeed! I was on clear liquids for a couple of days, then onto the 'straw' diet for the remainder of the 2 weeks, which was really quite easy, as I felt no hunger at all (very strange sensation...for me anyhow...:crying:) I started to feel a bit of hunger developing about mid last week, but then I had my dietitian appointment on Thursday, and started on the soft foods phase, which is also going along very well, although I do have to go very slowly with my eating, and as you say...chew chew chew.....another new sensation for me, as I've always eated far too quickly (always in a hurry). I do find not having anything to drink with my meals a bit difficult, especially my cup of tea with Breakfast, but I guess I will adapt. The swelling for the most part is gone, the wounds are healing over nicely, and only a slight amount of pain, if for example I lean over, or press against my desk at work. The first couple of days were a bit uncomfortable, but not overly painful, but I was sensible about taking the pain killers, so that I could be up and mobile as soon as possible, and they certainly help you to do that. I know some people try to do it without the pain meds, but they serve their purpose, in that first week or so. I have been walking most days, and also been for a couple of rides on my new push bike...which is another new experience! I've only fallen off twice so far!!! :w00t: Overall I am extremely happy with everything, have lost just under 12 kg's since the start of Optifast. I see my surgeon in a fortnight, and presume that I will get my first fill then. So you only have a week to go? How are you coping with the optifast phase....or didn't you have to do that? Where are you having your surgery done? Keep in touch, and keep smiling, because the LAP-BAND® is definitely going to be one of the best things you could do for yourself. Best wishes, Ish...
  4. Absolutely agree with you!
  5. Hi Redoz...going well, now 12 days post op, still on liquids...optifast shake for breakfast, mainly pureed veg soup for lunch dinner, a little bit of custard, and some liquid yoghurt ...that's about it. Have an appointment on Thursday with dietician, and hopefully will move onto some soft foods after that. Not feeling much hunger, although last night I had a bit of a bad spell, and ate 3 scoops of icecream with custard!!!!!! It went down a little to easily too, but hopefully it was a one off. How are you doing? Cheers, Ish

Hi ...go here... Weight Loss - Diet Ticker
  8. Hello all, I too have sleep apnea, rated as severe, and one of the reasons I finally decided to go the lapband route. There are no guarantees that losing the weight will mean I will become CPAP free, (although I do hope so)....but I have been using the machine now for 6 months, and I have been a new woman, in terms of how I feel, and how well I cope with the everyday issues now. I agree, it is uncomfortable and far from the sexiest night attire, but when you use it all the time, like I have to, you do get very accustomed to it, and the odd time that I have dropped off to sleep without it, I almost always wake up choking, but never do when I'm wearing it. It also means that I don't snore all the time, so my partner is happy enough about that, and when in a romantic frame of mind, just don't put it on, until later! Anyhow...my thoughts, for what they are worth, but I do think that the embarasment and discomfort of the CPAP machine is nothing compared to the potential health problems, without it....even death...so think about the long term.....ok?

    October 2010 Bandsters!!

Hello all, well it's now 1 week, and 1 day post op. Been doing really well, walking most mornings and still feeling no hunger, but the last couple of days I've had some pain....well really more discomfort, than pain, in my left side and ribcage area...anyone else had that? Also, a bit of discomfort around the port incision, that I hadn't noticed previously. I forgot myself briefly earlier today, and gulped down some liquid yoghurt a bit too quickly (I usually use a straw), but just drank it straight down today, and for a minute or two, I was worried that it was going to come back up....lesson learned! Weight loss seems to have stalled, I know I shouldn't keep jumping on the scales, but curiosity always gets the better of me....but for the last 3 or 4 days, I've been the same...but overall, have lost 8kgs since pre-op diet began. Made some yummy potato and cauliflower soup last night...very basic and absolutely delicious. 2 chicken stock cubes 2 cups water 1 small onion 1 teaspoon crushed garlic 2 large potatos handful of cauliflower salt and pepper to taste skim milk to thin to required consistancy Bring stock cubes and water to the boil, finely dice potato and cauliflower and put in saucepan. lightly brown onion and garlic and then place in the saucepan. Once potatos are very well cooked to the point of dissolving in the saucepan remove from heat and allow to cool. Place mix in blender and blend until smooth, adding skim milk as necessary, to thin mixture to desired consistency. Best wishes to all who are still to have your op, and I hope everyone else is feeling great!

Do be sensible and take your pain meds, as they help keep you mobile, which speeds recovery

    October 2010 Bandsters!!

Hi Cherie, by 'diet soft drink' I mean low calorie dry ginger, and I have been letting it go almost flat, before drinking it. I just like the taste, but the bubbles would probably cause problems if drunk as soon as the bottle was opened.... :-)

    October 2010 Bandsters!!

Hi Cherie, I was operated on the day after you. Feeling really good, and like you, no appetite at all....which is fine by me! I'm having optifast shake for breakfast, a little bit of pear juice, diet soft drink and mineral water. I had some cream of chicken soup for dinner last night, because I thought I should, rather than wanting anything. Still a bit bloated, and no BM as yet, (that's what the pear juice is for) and this morning I put some fibre powder into my shake....we'll see how that goes. It is just so strange, to not feel any hunger! Best wishes, Kerry
  14. Hi Marlene, my surgery went so smoothly, I have been absolutely fine. I have been driving since Saturday (2 days post op) and went for a brisk early morning 30 min walk this morning. I felt a bit tired when I got home, to be expected, and I didn't much like going up hill, but otherwise, no problems. I have only a little pain, around the incisions, otherwise pretty good...no gas pain, or shoulder tip pain....yet! How are you going? Did you stay in overnight, or were you a day patient, like me? Hope to hear from you soon. Cheers, Kerry:smile:

    October 2010 Bandsters!!

Morning everyone, I'm just back from a brisk 30 min early morning walk, and feeling great! I did take some pain meds before heading off though, as I figure it is better to get the mobility going, to aid recovery and results. To be honest though I haven't had much pain or discomfort really, I've slept through the past 2 nights without any meds, and am moving quite well. I want to wish kimturk71 and lzj21248 all the best for your surgery today, looking forward to seeing your posts, and amazed1, not long now!! :blushing: Start weight: 101.6kg Surgery weight: 95.2kg Surgery date: 21 October Current weight: 94.6kg Age: 53

    October 2010 Bandsters!!

You will be fine. I know what you mean about the lack of support, but interestingly, now that it is done, my partner is much more inclined to encourage and support me. Maybe it's because he realises it's too late now to change my mind, and he is going with the flow! Anyhow, I hope you have as smooth an experience as I have. I'm still feeling really good! And best of all, I have absolutely zero interest in food, which is just fantastic! Long may it last! :-)

    October 2010 Bandsters!!

Thanks lzj21428...still feeling really good, a little bit tired, and I've taken some pain meds, before any real discomfort starts, so I'm on top of it. No point in being a martyr! Trying to ignore the mess that my partner has left the house in...his idea of tidy is a long way from mine! I'll just do a quick tidy up and then have a little rest in the lovely spring sunshine! :-)

QUOTE=AMAZED1;1543806]Ishkahara you made me smile. Can't wait for my surgery in Belgium on 27th. NO PAIN the same as you HOPEFULLy. Keep posting x Hello Amazed1...I certainly hope it all goes well for you too! Today, I'm a little tired, as I didn't sleep well last night, no real reason, I wasn't uncomfortable as such, probably too much sleep all day! Just finished an optifast shake, took ages to drink it all down, feeling a bit too full now, otherwise feeling pretty good, although I have taken some pain meds, figured I would get in first!:w00t:
  19. Good luck for today mgrygorc! I hope it goes as well for you as it did for me yesterday!

    October 2010 Bandsters!!

Hello everyone! My surgery today was a breeze! Arrived at the hospital at 7:30am, walked into the operating theatre, and jumped up onto the table at around 8:30am, and woke up in recovery a little before 10:00am I was convinced that I had dropped off to sleep, while waiting, it seemed that quick, and I had no pain whatsoever! Had a few sips of water, over the next couple of hours, and dozed on and off, then I was moved to a recliner chair. I went to the bathroom, without any assistance, and then got dressed without any help at all, and was on my way home at around 2:00pm. I picked up the pain and anti nausea meds from the pharmacy on the way home, then tucked myself into bed for a nice comfy nap! My partner kept waking me up to see if I was alright, but being so sleepy, I was able to drop off again easily. I got up at around 6:00pm and sipped some diet soft drink...not too fizzy, but found it a bit difficult, and had to take a good rest in between sips. Then I gave up, and decided to have a black coffee....I haven't had a coffee for 3 weeks!!! It went down very easily I can tell you! It is now around 8:30pm, I'm still up, and still have no pain, so they must have pumped me up with drugs while I was under. The lovely caring nursing staff kept asking me if I had pain, and seemed really surprised when I kept telling them that I had none at all. I am touching wood, as I write this, as tomorrow might be a diffrerent story. But it is so good to be at home, rather than in a hospital bed. I am not feeling any hunger at all, a bit thirsty, but water is on hand at all times. So happy to have the surgery behind me, hopefully the all liquid stage won't be too difficult. At least I do like the coffee flavoured optifast, and I've stocked up on some yummy soups etc. Anyhow, good luck to everyone still facing up for your surgery, and I hope you have a great experience as well.... :wink2:
  21. Hi, yes, I'm pretty new to this message board thing as well. But isn't it great to find so much support and understanding from others who are going through the same thing! I made a conscious decision to not tell people about my decision, as I didn't want the negative nay sayers views. I have told only a couple of close friends, and my partner of course, but have not really received much positive support, so it is great to chat with you, and others, so that we can share our thoughts and feelings, and support and encourage one another along the way. I go to hospital at 7:30am tomorrow, and expect to be allowed to go home at around 1:30pm. At least I can go home to my own bed, which will be better than the hospital! Good luck with your surgery, and I look forward to sharing the journey! Cheers, Kerry :rolleyes2:

    October 2010 Bandsters!!

Hi, getting excited but also feeling some trepidation. Trying to get everything finished up at work, before I start leave, so pretty busy. Wondering how I'll go, being a day patient, and hoping that my partner copes ok, if I am sick (he's a bit hopeless in that area lol)

    October 2010 Bandsters!!

Hi, I'm on 3 shakes a day (or 2, plus 1 optifast bar), and 1 to 2 cups of low starch vegies at night, plus 2 fruit during the day, if I need them. Cooking the veg along with the evening meal, means I can sit and eat something with my partner, and not feel quite so miffed about cooking for him :-) I note from your profile that we are around same age, weight, bmi etc., so we have a good deal in common, as well as the lapband op.
