So I woke up this morning, and stepped on the scale and it said I was down 18 pounds. I didn't believe it and had to step off and step on again! 18 pounds in 8 days! That is crazy right? So of course I went to my closet and found my size 18 jeans and they fit!!! I feel like I am living in a dreamworld. I'm not hungry at all, have no pain and except for a little tired feeling, am doing great! These boards have been a lifesaver as far as learning what to expect and how to eat post op! So these 18 pounds are yours also!!! Thanks to you all and I cant wait for next weeks numbers!

I will be sleeved on Feb 4th, so truly I do not know what it feels like. I have had other surgeries and have worried and complained afterwords about the pain. I also stressed myself before hand.
I noticed though reading others experiences that it is vital to keep a positve outlook. I know that it is natural to experience "buyers remorse" but overall, I beleive it is imparitive at this stage, for me, to go in this with feelings of "I can do this, yes, I will work through the pain I will have a few months of major discomfort but this to shall pass".
I have been the other patient that was, this is terrible, this sucks , I can not handle this and It only made it worse.
These days if I wander into fear, I fill my head with , I can not wait to sit on my husband's lap again, I want to run, I want to paint my own toes again. I want to live free of my "CAN NOTS"
I want to embraced every minute of it!!!!! Even the pain of getting there.
I believe that sometimes, the hard times attitude might just be everything!!!!
    Just saying....

I quote other's post to put my reply in the proper context. Sometimes, I am replying to the original poster's topic, other times, I may be replying to a response to that original post, which I will then perhaps quote that response for clarity.
I think it is important though, if you are not quoting the entire post, to be sure not to exclude anything remotely important. When in doubt, over-quote.
I can't say I have really seen users use a quote to make their own post seem more important, though. It just helps to clarify what their response refers to.

Not as much as you think! I LOVE too cook- but I honestly do WAY less of it now. Going through all that prep for one itty bitty meal that I probably won't eat all of any way curbs that desire to cook. You will learn to cook a few essential items and you'll be fine

    (originally from Allrecipes.com)
By the time you get to the mushy/soft food stage, you'd probably rather poke out your eyes with a stick then see another Protein shake. chicken seems to sit well with lots of sleevers, but it's hard to get the meat moist enough to eat comfortably. This is a fabulous recipe that gives a chicken that great rotisserie style flavor and makes it moist and tender enough to eat or puree.
Original yield: two 4 lb whole chickens
    Ingredients

    4 teaspoons salt
    2 teaspoons paprika
    1 teaspoon onion powder
    1 teaspoon dried thyme
    1 teaspoon white pepper
    1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
    1/2 teaspoon black pepper
    1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
    2 onions, quartered
    2 (4 pound) whole chickens

    Directions

In a small bowl, mix together salt, paprika, onion powder, thyme, white pepper, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and garlic powder. Remove and discard giblets from chicken. Rinse chicken cavity, and pat dry with paper towel. Rub each chicken inside and out with spice mixture. Place 1 onion into the cavity of each chicken. Place chickens in a resealable bag or double wrap with plastic wrap. Refrigerate overnight, or at least 4 to 6 hours.
    Preheat oven to 250 degrees F (120 degrees C).
Place chickens in a roasting pan. Bake uncovered for 5 hours, to a minimum internal temperature of 180 degrees F (85 degrees C). Let the chickens stand for 10 minutes before carving.

My variation: Place one chicken directly into a pressure cooker on a wire rack, and cook for 25 minutes at high pressure. When finished, quickly release pressure. Let stand 10 minutes before carving.
I quadruple the spice rub and keep it on hand, we make this so often.

I'm traveling from NM to TX for my surgery, so my doc said he'll use dissolving sutures. DUH! When they know people are going a long way for surgery, why wouldn't they just routinely do this? For those of us not done yet- ask for dissolving sutures. I had no idea a local doc would not take them out. That's just crazy. Lawsuits drive the world these days. Very sad.

I had surgery in September 2010 and I was feeling hungry within the first week. It has never gone away and I realized ealy on that I could not fit the "model" way of eatting. I eat small amounts about every two hours and that seems to work for me. Someone recommeded I track my intake and what I discovered early on is that I was only eatting about 500 calories since I could only eat such a small bfast, lunch, dinner. That was an eye opener since 500 calories is obviously not enough. I now eat about 1000 calories a day and I eat it in many small meals.
You will find that recommended eating post surgery varies signifigantly by doctor/program and every doctor thinks their program is best. However, every other doctor can't be wrong. I think every PERSON knows what is best for them. I guide my eating by a few simple rules- Protein first, minimal sugar, make the healthy choice. My two cents is this, track your consumption to make sure you are eating enough, but not too much and if you are hungry eat, just make sure it is a healthy choice.

spiritstalkergoddess reacted to Tiffykins in NSV shout outs
This is probably going to seem sooooooooo trivial to everyone else, but I had a great NSV last night.

John and I have never been cuddly when we sleep. #1 I would get so hot that I couldn't stand having him right up on me #2 He's a tummy sleeper with his elbows spread out over the bed, I sleep on my side with a body pillow.

Anyways, last night, he pulls me in super close to his chest, my back is touching his chest, and he wraps his arms around me, like completely around me (that's never happened before), and he nuzzled his head next to my neck and was asleep in a matter of minutes. I laid there just smiling like a goofy kid at a candy store, and I could feel his heart beating on my back. I laid there and actually felt his heart rate slow down as he began to drift off into a deep sleep. It felt so amazing to be that close, and not be hot and feel gross about myself. He had one arm under my head, wrap it up over me and the other arm wrapped around me the other side. I don't think I've ever realized how many "little" things we didn't do because of my weight.

He then started snoring (which he never did before), and I had to move a little because he was right next to my ear. But for the first time in 3.5 years, I literally fell asleep in my love's arms.

Blood pressure cuffs are hard to adjust SMALL enough when the used to barely fit at all.
You feel like you are gyping the server at a restaurant when you tip the regular 15%, only now it's on less than HALF the regular bill becasue you are splitting Entrees and skipping deserts.
