I am a 33 year old African American single mother of four children.  I have been trying to lose weight in some way shape or form for 14 years.  I am very unhappy with my weight and the way my weight is affecting my life. My children need me and I need them in order to make my life change.  I chose the lap band over other weight loss surgeries because after doing my research this seems to be the least risky, though there are risk in all surgeries, and seems to be the tool that I need to begin my journey.  I am not looking for a quick fix that is not going to take any effort or work on my part.  What I am looking for is a tool to assist me in my total life change.  I am excited to get to the point when I am happy with what I see in the mirror instead of trying to avoid the mirror.  I am excited to get to a place when I am at total peace (mind, body, and soul) and having the surgery is just a part of my journey to health and happiness.
