  1. My surgery is Monday and I sent an email to all my friends and loved ones a few days ago. Everyone has been 100% supportive - it's been great. :clap2:

  3. Hello everyone! I have been reading a lot about the difference between LAPBAND and Gastric Bypass procedures. There seems to be consistency regarding the statement that 40 - 50% of excess weight loss stays off after 2 years with LAPBAND. This confuses me. If one keeps the band on and continues the correct behavior and is consistent - shouldn't you be able to keep your initial loss and maintain (also continuing to monitor the band re: fills, etc.)? Basically it seems to say that if one loses 100 pounds, they can expect to regain 50-60 pounds.... but that seems very disconcerting. :rolleyes Am I missing something? :help: Thanks!
  4. Hi All: I am scheduled to be banded on March 26th. I was wondering - for those of you who've been through the process - do you weigh yourselves daily or is that not something you recommend. Just curious. Thanks! :help:

  6. Hi - I'm beginning week 2 of my "pre-surgery" liquid diet. From what I understand, the main reason we are doing this is in fact to reduce (shrink) or de-fat our liver. Most, if not all people that are dealing with morbid obesity have fatty livers which of course is not healthy - and for surgery they want us to be in as healthy a condition as possible. Apparently shrinkage of the liver makes surgery significantly easier. The Nutritionist at the NYU Program for Surgical Weight Loss gave me information that says if one is hungry you can have raw or cooked vegetables (2 cups daily) of the folowing: -lettuce, spinach, cucumber, onion, tomato, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, mushroom, zuccini, string Beans, okra, cabbage, asparagus, brussel sprouts and peppers. NO - corn, peas, potatoes, or beans, Liquids include protein/meal replacement shakes, any sugar free beverages, sugar-free Jello, low salt broth. NO - alchohol. When I went to the first information seminar at NYU , I remember someone asking Dr. Fielding if they HAD TO stick to liquids during those 2 weeks. He said he was not going to put a gun to people's heads, if they slipped it wouldn't be the end of the world, but he highly recommended sticking to the nutritionist guidelines. Good Luck to All. :gluck: This site has been tremendously helpful to me and I thank everyone for the courage and honesty! :clap2:
  7. Hello Everyone - I've been reading a bit about the Lap Band surgery and yesterday went to see my Primary Care Doc. He agreed that this would be a good option for me. He referred me to the NYU Program for Surgical Weight Loss. I'm scheduled to go to the Information Session next week - which is apparently Step 1. If anyone has had experience or insights they'd like to share - I'm all ears, and would appreciate any recommendations. I'll continue to read this board and research the internet for info as there certainly seems to be a lot of info. Thanks Very Much. Benbax
  8. Thanks everyone for your responses. I have now gone to the Information Seminar, and have seen the psychologist and gotten clearance. Next step is to have a full physical and take the results and meet with the Nutritionist and then the surgeon. I am feeling really good about this decision. Thanks all!
