Okay I read so much about the band before I got it but it seems you don't always know what to ask until you're in the middle of it. So...my question is ...if your food stays in the pouch for a while (people are always saying you don't want to stretch your pouch) why do you have the stuck feeling when you eat too fast? If its supposed to be in the pouch it wouldn't be passing through the band ...right? Just wondering if someone can spell that out for me because it is something I wouldn't have known to ask until I had it. Thanks for any input...

Thanks cocoabean...I will read the article soon! Elcee...that actually makes me chuckle that they called you after you'd written them but then didn't really know the answer...probably just a customer service rep but still you would think they'd have more information than that. I'm okay with not knowing completely how it works as long as it does work but now that no one really seems to know the exact answer I feel a little less dumb for not knowing myself LOL

Have you ever regretted telling someone about the band?
sophinator replied to Fat Cat's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have told close friends and family. I think it is a personal choice. Some people are comfortable sharing with everyone and some are not. You just have to figure out what is right for you. As for regretting telling anyone...I haven't regretted telling anyone I've told but I also haven't regretted not telling anyone else either. I like keeping things to myself so I am good with that Best wishes to you...and whatever decision you make! -
I agree with you both as well. Cocoa I really don't know much about gastric way of eating to compare but definitely think the stuck feeling is food going through the band. I guess in time we will learn more. Have just been wondering about it for a while now. I'll keep an eye out for that article. Thanks for responding!

Hi all...thought I'd say hello. I've been a little frustrated as well. I have been at a stand still since the week after surgery. I got a fill two weeks ago and don't even notice a difference I guess I should be happy I'm not gaining Everyone seems to be moving along a little at a time...Anyone want to share what they are eating in a day?

Any Feb bandster gotten a fill yet?
sophinator replied to justplaintired's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Boy is it quiet around here!! I FINALLY got my first fill today! Funny I would consider my dr. very conservative but yet he told me I didn't have to do just liquids after my fill...I do notice a bit of a difference...will see how tomorrow goes. Wasn't painful just a little pokey. Will go back in another 6 weeks and he will add more...he does the first two in 1cc incriments and then goes down from there as needed. I already had 2cc's in there at placement so I now have 3cc's. What is everyone else at?? -
avoid caffeine/ and carbonation
sophinator replied to options123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dr. said caffeine was ok in moderation. He says no carbonation until after 3 months and then I can try it. He says some people can't tolerate it. As a former diet pepsi addict I figure it's just as well to not have it. I've not had any since February and it's not been that bad. -
How did you handle getting to eat your favorite meal?
sophinator replied to Ssauce74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keep up the good work sauce...you don't sound crazy. If you can't ask an honest question here then one would question why these boards exist. -
Any Feb bandster gotten a fill yet?

I can't even get a first fill for 9 weeks!!! I'm jealous too! -
Welcome back! So glad to hear your mom is doing well and going to be going home!! It's been pretty quiet around here...we need to liven things up Still waiting on a fill here...will be waiting until the last week of April My dr. waits 9 weeks before the first one. I'm not hungry all the time I can just eat probably more than I should. Still maintaining at my 20lbs Well glad your back and hope your fill is helpful!!
-
Hi Elle...I haven't had a fill yet...won't until the last week in April but my dr. said they will put 3cc's in on the first one and then 1/2 cc's on the following ones and then he moved down to less. He had a whole schedule that he follows. I would assume if I had good restriction he wouldn't do anything. I've seen people say their dr's fill them while swallowing water...so all in all I think every dr is different...they are for everything else I suppose why shouldn't they be for this LOL Best of luck to you.

Banded 3/24... now what is this feeling...
sophinator replied to bzbrown's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes it sounds the same as what I had. It will fade away...I have that feeling on occasion like I said but never as strong as in that first week. No worries! It's all so new and there are lots of weird feelings but I am a month out and I feel so normal now...probably until my first fill LOL...hang in there that first week or two were the hardest! -
Banded 3/24... now what is this feeling...
sophinator replied to bzbrown's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does it feel like a lump in your throat but down lower in your chest? If yes...it is normal and it does go away...at least mine did. Took about a week or so. It is also what it feels like to me when I swallow something without chewing enough or eat too much. It scared me right after I was banded but many on here said they had the same thing. Hope that helps! Hang in there!! -
Stressed out about gaining back a few pounds before my 1st fill...
sophinator replied to Katy K's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr told me it was not only normal it is expected before your first fill...hang in there it will get better! -
Anyone else notice a heightened sense of smell? It's almost like when I was pregnant...and I am not!!
-
Oh that's true Kitty It's really weird though and I 've been wondering if anyone else experienced this. I noticed it when I came home from the hospital and then again the other day. I wonder if it has something to do with feeling nauseous because I was at both those times?? Who knows

when do they remove the surgical tape?
sophinator replied to Pammy S Lewis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on a Friday and was told I could shower on the following Monday. The strips just fell off on their own after about a week or so. I asked my dr. Thurs. about caffeine and he said it was fine. I drink a cup every morning as well. -
wk 5-2 1/2 PLATEAU!
sophinator replied to punk.sauce's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded the 25th of Feb. I lost 10 lbs right after surgery and the scale hasn't moved since! I am guessing this is very normal. When I saw my dr. Thursday he said I am doing great. He also said the next 6 weeks before my first fill (he doesn't do a fill until 9 weeks out) I may stay the same or even gain a lb or two. I personally don't even understand how I am maintaining because I am eating so much less then I was before but like the people before me say I think it does have something to do with the shock to your body and your body hanging on to everything it can. Don't give up...you came this far just ride the wave it will get better!! -
Any Feb bandster gotten a fill yet?
sophinator replied to justplaintired's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I went today for my first post op visit. I was banded Feb. 25th. My dr. told me they won't do a fill for 6 more weeks because he wants to make sure all the stitches he made around the band stay put while I heal. He did say he put some in when he placed the band but not much. I asked him how much I should be eating because I've been so scared I'm eating too much. He said to eat slowly, take small bites, and eat until I feel satisfied but not overly full. He said I didn't need to measure out a cup or anything like that. I don't know if it's a good thing or not to see what everyone elses dr's say because then you just second guess everything! -
I felt the same way before and even right after I kept thinking what the heck was I thinking. I am now three weeks from surgery and feel good. I'm on pureed foods and quite honestly food just loses its charm after a while which is nice. I do miss my bubbly soda though I must admit. It's my favorite. So...yesterday I went to McDonald's and got a small hi c orange which is high in sugar but not carbonated so I felt like I was having one even though I wasn't. It's cheating but as long as I'm not doing it all the time I can give myself that treat. It's pretty simple...you'll do great!!

Feeling great physically but....
sophinator replied to TracieR's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt that way during my preop diet. It was weird but it does pass quicker than you think. Hang in there! -
I'm joining this boat...I lost 18lbs between preop and the first week after and have stayed the same ever since! Grr... I find it hard to believe with the small amounts I am eating I am maintaining! Justplaintired...you're giving me some hope.

Eating/Question
sophinator replied to dentalronna@gmail.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok...not to hijack your thread but I still am wondering if I'm eating too much at a time...oceangirl when you drink a protein shake do you drink the whole thing at one time? I'm eating about a cup of soup at a time and can drink a whole shake (not at the same time as the soup) I'm just scared I'm eating too much! -
Ok...I'm only a week post op and just was told I could have cream soups. My dr. never specified an amount so my question is do I need to be measuring out an amount? If so how much? Last night I probably ate about a cup of soup. I was full feeling but not dying or Thanksgiving full. Should I just eat a certain amount and stop? Or should I listen to my body? I don't want to damage anything but my thinking is also that soup probably slides right through...any input on this would be great!
