I feel like i'm doing it wrong

I had to reply to this post because I have been where you are. I was banded Oct. 15 2010. My total weight loss to date is 24 pounds. 18 of that being pr-op. I was planning on being under 200 by now. I had BIG plans.. Well..........it didnt work that way. Let me start off by saying how it does work. It works different for everyone. Do not compare yourself to everyone else. For some it is a quick fix and they start loosing big amounts from the time they get home. But then for some (like me) we take it in small amounts. Even gaining along the way. I have had 3 fills and still have not hit the sweat spot. One thing no one ever told me or I failed to get the information on my own was that it may take you several fills before you get to where you have good restriction. I will say that this month I lost 6 pounds, I am going to the gym 4 times a week. My energy level has sky rocketted. Do not get discouraged. You will get there!!! You do have to change the mind and thats the hardest thing. Good luck and keep us posted.
  2. Thanks!! It is a bit discouraging to think that I will have to go 4 or 5 months before I really get the restriction I want and need. But there is nothing I can do now but keep positive and watch what I eat. Thanks again.

  3. Well,, here I am again writing another entry looking for suggestions. For the last week I have been doing the South Beach Diet and Iam not having great results at all. I have only had one fill so the restriction is not there.. Hence why I decided to incorparate the South Beach Diet. I did the SB before lapband about 5 years ago I got amazing results but just like every attempt to loose weight, I had no trouble loosing it, it was keeping it off.. So I guess what I am wanting to know are there some of you that maybe started to loose the weight a couple months into this. I DO NOT AND REFUSE to be another nightline story where "she actually gained weight with the lap band" I thought cutting the carbs and adding the Protein would help. I was banded in Oct. but seriously thought I would see better results than this. All that I have lost came from the pre op.. Ugg... Feeling a bit discouraged I guess. Wondering if I am doomed to be fat the rest of my life.

  5. Really dont want to be the doom and gloom one on here.. Love to read success stories and I have watched everyone on youtube until I know them by heart.. Those of you that have had really good results please share your stories with us "beginners" so we can rejoice with you and know that there is hope for us. I dont guess I realized it would take a couple of fills before I got to the restriction I need (and highly desire). So therefore that is something I am having to deal with now and get my mind going in the right direction. How long did it take for you to start seeing the weight fall off?? Those of you that have had great results in like 10 months, when did it start for you? Just curious to know. I want so bad to be a success story for the band. I heard of so many horror stories and failures before I had the surgery and dont want to be another. Thanks for reading and cant wait to read your stories..

To you bandsters with great results

Thank you all for posting! It has been very encouraging to read. Great Great advice and I will say that I will impament them all into my new life style.. I do have a question for you all though.. How long did it take before you started seeing results. I have lost the pre op weight and actually have not lost one pound since surgery. Definatly feel some restriction from the recent fill but nothing major. Just wondering if it took you all several fills before you really started seeing results. Thanks agian for the very inspiring stories and keep up the good work..
  7. For those of you that have been at this a little longer, I am wondering how long did it take you to start getting the real restriction and start loosing a steady amount of weight?? Also what kind of diet did you follow.. I knew this wasnt the fix all but I really thought it would give me alot more restriction than this.. I am ready to start seeing the pounds drop off.. I was banded the 15th of Oct and got my first fill today.. Only 1.5 cc though..Any advice is welcomed.
  8. Wow!! I am so jealous of all of you all.. I had surgery on the 15th of Oct. I went today for my first fill and I only got 1.5cc. I thought that was a big jump because I was only expecting to get 1cc.. Ugg, I am sooo ready to fill some major restriction. At this rate it will be spring before I actually see any true restriction. So basically I guess I need to mentally and physically prepare myself to do it on my own until then.

    October 2010 Bandsters

How are you doing since your first fill.. Feeling any restriction??
  10. I am 4 weeks post op and scheduled for my first fill this coming up Thurs. (11-18-10) I have been able to eat just about anything for the past 2 weeks. Yes I admit I have not stuck to the mushy food rule very well. I have managed to loose 5 pounds since surgery but it has been really hard. I am feeling like I am doing it all on my own. Exactly what I did before the band. I have not totally given up all hope because I havent even got my first fill yet. Just curious as to what kind of diet you guys are following to see great results. I know the band is not a fix all and the weight is going to drop off over night. I am willing to follow a diet and I have already started going to the gym. Maybe my dr will give me some advice when I go this week. Just curious what you all are doing to see results and if you all might have had this doubt in the begining as well.
  11. tabatha lynn

What kind of diet are you following

How many calories are you consuming??
  12. tabatha lynn

What kind of diet are you following

Wow!! Congrats to all of you all.. Those are some great results. I am going to start keeping up with my calories so I will have some sense of control and know what I am consuming. 10 pounds a month is fantastic!! I plan on having a long talk with my dr and find out exactly what they are wanting me to do. Thanks again for the advice..

    20 Weeks & I'm half way there!!!!

OMG!! I needed to read this.. Thank you so much for posting. I am 3 1/2 weeks post op and already I am questioning myself, if I did the right thing. I go the 18th for my first fill and hoping that I will get some restriction and start seeing some pounds come off. Congratulations on the success.. Keep it up and keep us posted...
  14. I got banded the 15 of Oct. and wow have I ever questioned myself as to why I have done this.. I go for my first fill on the 18th.(next thurs) I am looking foward to it wishing for some restriction. I knew that the band was not the fix all but surely it gets easier than this. Ive often wondered if we will all be wishing for these days back where we had little to know restriction.. LOL... I have lost 5 pounds since surgery. Making a total of 23. I am anxious to see what the fill does. I am reading some post where people are saying that it took them 3 or 4 fills to feel the restriction. WHAT... Dont tell me that.. I am trying not to get discouraged and I am determined to successed at this.. If for nothing else to prove the haters wrong...Ha Ha.. Lets keep posting as we get our fills and see how everyone is doing.. We can do this!
  15. I am not glad to know that you are going through this but am relived that I am not at this alone. I was banded the 15th of October. The first 2 weeks felt ALOT of restriction.( I guess from swelling) Have moved to regular foods and feel like I have no restriction at all. (Although I tried rasin bran and was reminded the hard way that things arent normal) I am at 23 pounds and 18 of that was pre op. I have started walking, I go for my first fill next Thurs. I am hoping to get the restriction back. I actually went up 4 pounds, and you want to talk about frustration. But soon found out it was water weight..After all that was said and done I went back down. I am just real confused and worried to death that maybe I will be that 1% that has band slippage and the surgery did not work for. I dont know. I am going to talk to my dr next week and see what he says. Is this normal??
  16. This message is after the one below it.. It will only let you have 1000 letters.. Anyway....the few pounds I gained are gone and I am ready to get going... I had actually thought about going back to shakes and a meal until I get my fill. Well before this entry turns into another long one, I will end it.. Good luck with the up coming dr's appt. Keep me posted with everything

  17. Hello!! How are you? Sorry it has taken me some time to reply to you. I have not been on here for a few days.. (obviously) Thats great that everything is falling into place. It will be here and done before you know it. I wish we had a support group around here. We actually might but I havent looked it up yet. I had alot of restriction for about the first week and half but now can pretty much eat anything. Well I say anything. I can eat almost anything just not a whole lot of it. More than the first week but definatly nothing like I use to be able to eat. My total is 23 now. I havent started walking yet, we have been very busy with church and stuff. Actually going to meet a friend today @ 5. I go get my first fill the 18th of this month. I am looking foward to that to see if I get the restriction back. I had gained a couple pounds last week and was totally not happy. But then I started my period and knew thats where that came from.

    people love failure

I so understand what you all are saying. I went through this same thing. Pulling into the hospital the day of my surgery my brother tells me " my mother in laws neighbor was buried just a week ago from the surgery." She set up infection.. ARE YOU SERIOUS!!! Telling me this as I pull into the hospital. How insane do you have to be to say something like that. I have heard alot of hate stories but really it just puts something in me to want to prove them all wrong and give them a personal success story to tell.. My BFF in all the world is still not supportive of me getting banded and says I will be no fun now. Wow... No fun because we wont be able to sit down and put away a whole large pizza a 2 liter and a 4 pack of reece's bp cups.. (which to my shame we have done, just 2 ladies) Really now, is that what made me fun,, food.. How sad, maybe she will have to learn to like me for me.. Just saying. Hang in there, and just give them a success story to tell.
  19. Was banded yesterday and it went great!!! *Arrived at hospital at 7:30 for registration. The lady that registered me had got banded by the same dr and she has lost 70 pounds since April... Yay!! So we talked and it was such an encourgment.. *Got iv, doctor came in and talked to me and my husband and said it would be about another 30 mins and I would be on my way. I have such an awsome dr. Dr. Dana Edwards is great!!! *They gave me my happy meds about 9:45 *Rolled me to surgery room, I got on surgery table, stapped my arms down put oxygen mask on and the nurse said, "Im gonna put some stuff in your iv to put you to sleep, it may burn." I never felt it burn, I think I took two more breaths and the next thing I know it was 12 oclock and I was waking up in recovery. *The worst part about the whole thing was cottonmouth when I woke up. I was feeling a little woozy so they gave me something for that and since they gave me that they couldnt give me any ice chips for 2 hours..Ugg.. *So I finally got ice chips and was able to hold them down and on my way to the house I went. *I asked if I could walk out instead of riding in a wheelchair. The nurse let me. We stopped at Walgreens on our way home and I walked around for 20 mins or so. When I got home I went ahead and took some of the pain meds and fenegren to be safe. I sat up and visited with family a little bit and then went to bed. *Slept really well. I would wake up to turn over very easily and then go right back to sleep. *Up at 6 am walking around house, stomach a little sore this morning but nothing unbearable. Really only notice when getting up and down from chair. ***For all of you that havent had your surgery yet, put all worries aside. I worried enough for all of us and it was all for nothing**** Would definatly do again!!! I am sure I might have bad days ahead but as of right now I feel great (concidering) I am not doing any flips or kicking to high but seriously feel great. Although I dont want to push it.. ** Best of luck to all of you with your surgery in the future**

    Officially banded!!

Just a quick update on today. Everything still going great. I walked just around the block of my neighborhood. Not really far but was afraid to push it. Came home had a Protein shake, I still put them in the blender with ice just to thicken up a bit. Well never felt full or anything so I thought " I will eat me a sugar free Pudding" Took about 3 bites and thought "Oh I am feeling full" about 3-4 mins passed and the feeling of full went to "oh this doesnt feel good at all" I guess I over did it with the shake and the pudding.. It lasted about 30 mins.. Just a feeling of tightness in my chest and a little hard to breath. But it went away..And let me assure you I wont have to be reminded not to do that again.. About 5 hours later I was able to get about 4 bites of mashed potatoes down and stopped before I got that bad feeling again. I am learning its all about control.. Still doing good. Today has been the worst day for pain caused from gas. But still very managable. Think I will take it easy tomorrow though because kids come home from Nana's on Thurs. then its right back at it with no option.. Again best of luck to all of you!!

    Officially banded!!

Thats not a gross question, its just a part of it. I know how you feel though. Trying to tell people "the worst part is gas" is kinda wierd.. LOL But the gas x actually helps you pass it. Now this is where it gets kinda gross on my end.. I would have to say they are not stinky one's or loud ones.. :crying:SORRY!! Seriously just trying to help.. It hasn't been like Im tooting or burbing every 30 mins.. Nothing like that,, I haven't timed them but its not bad at all. Seriously dont think no one will notice at work. I am finding that at night rolling in bed helps the most.. I am actually going walking around my neighborhood as soon as I get off of here and they say that helps tremendously. The more you move the more you release. Good luck to you and I hope your surgery goes well. My soreness is fading every day and I feel like by the end of this week I will not feel anything. Send the questions on,, and I will try to answer!!
  22. I am 2 days post op and I would say that absoulutly no way do I regret the surgery. Now I understand I am just a babe at this and only 2 days out and haven't expercienced a whole lot. But as far as the surgery goes I would definatly do again.. Surgery was a breeze.. Looking foward to this journey!! You have got to think about you and make up your mind on what it is you want. If you have complet peace about it then go for it... Best of luck to you..

    Officially banded!!

I have not had any food yet. Dont feel hungry but I just want to eat something. I did eat a sugar free pudding today and this eating will take some getting use to. I have been to scared to try to push it. Of course I am just 2 days into this. Every now and then I get an air pocket or something and it causes a little discomfort but eventually goes away. I have laid around most of the day just in fear that I might have over done it a little bit yesterday. I get to have a Protein shake tomorrow and I am so looking forward to that. ( Cant believe those words came out of my mouth) Best of luck to all of you and if you find any new tips or tricks please share..

    Officially banded!!

Awww thank you for all of your reply's.. It put a huge smile on my face to know that I have eased some of the worries.. I hope all of you have the same experiance as I did.. I woke up at 6 this morning and at noon I went to radio shack and to the post office. I have been out and about all day. Really slow though.. A couple times I would go to laugh and would have to hold it back because it hurt.. I also did not want to take the pain meds so I took childrens tylenol. Done very well with it until about 7 pm. Started feeling a little sore so went ahead and took a half a dose of the pain meds. Sipped on crystal light and tried to drink some coffee and got about 3 sips and that was it. I have experienced some pain in my shoulders and on my side. But the chewable gas x and dissolvable gas x strips have been wonderful..I would reccommend getting those.. I would go back in and do again in a heart beat. So for those of you facing surgery put your fears aside.. Now dont let me paint you this picture of no pain and all sunshine and roses. I am a little sore and at times I can tell the gas has moved to a different spot but nothing like I thought it would be. I am so looking foward to hearing all of your success stories so please keep us posted.. I will add that I feel huge for some reason..Maybe all the air in me. I was feeling smaller from pre op but I guess everything still swollen and it just makes me feel bloated.. P.S.. Ive not felt hungry at all.. Ive sipped on chicken noodle Soup broth for the comfort of something warm but Ive not felt hungery.. Gotta love that.. Now that I have wrote a novel I will close...
