Turned away for cheating
WrenBird replied to lashonda23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've heard that people who had the band done at my surgery were turned away on the day of their operation. If you're on a diet to shrink your liver (Optifast, etc) it's probably best you stick to it. It increases risks if you don't follow the diet. If your liver is too big, it can be hard to operate. -
What is eating you???
WrenBird replied to Bell1138's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've never heard of people using the band to make themselves sick before. Throwing up with the band terrifies me. Having things slightly stuck is bad enough and makes me feel horrible. I hope that girl is doing better now. She's very brave to go onto that show and even though I didn't see it, I heard she did it to help people. That's pretty cool of her. -
It could be poor circulation if it's occuring in the morning. Have you have a blood test recently? I found that my knees ached when I had a vitamin D deficiency.

Saw the doc yesterday about my tiredness..
WrenBird replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a Vitamin D deficiency and it was horrible. My joints and muscles ached all the time, I was tired all the time and didn't want to get out of bed. I started taking vitamin D tablets and exercised daily (regardless of how sore I was) and it's gotten so much better. -
I think it's just another word for 'being able to eat small meals and feeling satisfied'. There's people out there that are constantly trying to find that magical spot where they can eat whatever consistancy of food they want, and have their hunger supressed. - It doesn't work that way. and there's always going to be foods you can't have. When you find the right amount of fill that works for you, you'll be able to comfortably eat small portions of food and be satisfied. If you're too tight, it can lead to weight gain. In the end you just need to find what's right for you. Everyone's going to be different and some people's restrictions are going to be greater than others.

I've experienced that one. I was too tight at my last fill and resorted to eating runny meals that weren't making me full - they were just easier to eat. I put on a kilo because of that and was eating small foods all the time to keep my hunger down. In the end I was intaking too many calories.

24 hours out of surgery
WrenBird replied to Cangel76's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I passed out int he shower in my first week out of surgery. I was washing my hair at the time and I started to feel short of breath. I was fixated on finishing wahsing my hair and getting clean so I could lay down. Apparently I overdid it just from that and I'm very lucky I didn't fall through the glass. Don't overdo anything in your first week. You need to lay down and rest and just relax :-) If you feel like something's not right, then it's ok to have a lay down (obviously you need to shower, but if you start feeling weird, don't push yourself). Be selfish. The more you move your stomach muscles, the more likely the port will detatch itself from the abdominal wall, so let everything heal and sleep a lot and be good to yourself. :-) -
How many calories do you eat daily?
WrenBird replied to KikstersRT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, if I ever HAVE to eat vegemite, I always put in on thinly. I wasn't raised on vegemite, I ate promite more as a kid. I loveee Promite with a boiled egg or cheese. Mmmm. Everyone I know who loves vegemite has been eating it since they were kids, or they enjoy salty foods. Not me! -

I almost vomitted getting a barium swallow. It was horrible for me, but for other people it's not as bad. Good luck to you.

Awww whoa. That is going to be amazing. AHA. Let us know how it goes! I'd love to do something like that at some stage. You've got gutts! -
Are any of you cold a lot??
WrenBird replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel the same though! I get colder so much easier now! It's great though. Summers coming up here and I'd rather be cold than hot and sweaty. -

Ahahaha. same. I hate both of them. Tim tams are boring (really only good for biting each end and sucking chocolate milk through, but what chocolate coated biscuit isn't?) and vegemite is horrible. The new vegemite is better, I think, it's taste is less intense. I like Promite though (a variation of vegemite, it's yummier and doesn't taste like poison) with grilled cheese ontop. I of course, can't eat that stuff anymore anyways...But it's not a big loss to me meat pies and sausage rolls are probably better Aussie food for taste - but they're so fattening, I'd keep away from them and they're only good with tomato sauce (ketchup). I'm not a very good Aussie, am I? -

Kilograms to Pounds (kg to lb) conversion calculator There's a calculator there. I've lost 13 kilos (28 pounds) in just over a month. -
Yogurt? Try adding water to it.

How many calories do you eat daily?
WrenBird replied to KikstersRT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Depends. If I'm not losing much weight in that week I'll go from 500-800. Normally though and more recently I'll go 800-900. If I go above that then I don't lose weight. I exercise 4 times a week for an hour a day and 3 times a week at 2 hours a day. So I do about 10 hours of exercise a week. At the moment, I need a fill so I've been really hungry. Self restriction is a pain in the bum and drives me nutts. -

WrenBird replied to trishfish's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1 King Size chocolate candy bar (Snickers, Hershey, etc.) 500 calories!!! GEEZ LOL. I wouldn't be able to eat any of that stuff - it'd send me into a sugar craving spiral of doom. -

We're lucky to live in Australia where it's not as big here. I turned the music in my living room up so I couldn't hear the door. I'm sure there was only a couple of them anyways. -

I do the same thing. There's lollies and junkfood stashed around the house now because I've asked everyone to hide theirs. There's no shame in trying to help yourself. -
NSV I actually went to the gym.
WrenBird replied to bayareanan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt that way when I did aerobics classes as a teenager. I would end the class with a red face (from working so hard) and I'd be sweating a lot. It was obvious I was unfit, and because I'd worked so hard it looked like I was about to pass out - but I wasn't...So people would just stare at me. I'm doing aqua aerobics with all the oldies in a couple of hours That seems to be my thing these days. Does your gym membership involve aerobics classes? You might find that there's some classes in there for overweight people, or people with injuries or something like that - I usually feel more comfortable in those classes. -
Maybe try laying flat as much as possible. The more movement of the stomach muscles, the more likely the port will rip from the abdominal wall - not saying that that's what has happened to you, but even a tiny little tear can be very painful. Just try resting for a couple of days to get the body tissues strong again and see what happens.

If I have a little gas and am eating something, the food goes down through the band and air comes out at the top when the food is down, making a funny noise.

You can still eat ice cream and be under your calorie goal for the day, ya know
