A lady at aqua aerobics the other day told me it's better to exercise on an empty stomach because your body takes energy from the fat in your body, rather than the calories in the food you've eaten. I just smiled and said "wow, that's very interesting". Have any of you heard of any strange, frightening, out-there or just plain stupid diets or weightloss techniques?

Crazy fad diets you've heard of
WrenBird replied to WrenBird's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Too many gossip magazines, me thinks. Ahahah yes. There's nothing like a 50's meal without hard boiled eggs and a cup of laxative. -
Clarity on restriction???
WrenBird replied to candy rain's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The stuck feeling isn't restriction. The feeling of being satisfied (no longer hungry) with smaller amounts is. I think you need to change your eating habbits. The band only does a bit of the work, the rest is up to you. Good luck to you! -
Best thing for scars???
WrenBird replied to Shorty81367's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same here! I love how they've done all of these clinical trials that show results for more than one use: Bio Oil - Scar clinical trial It has more than 1 ingrediant too so if one ingrediant doesn't work, atleast the others might. -

Advice: Need to tell my boyfriend about the Band...
WrenBird replied to PrincipalsOffice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If he really loves you, he'll be happy and supportive of you regardless :-) I was worried about telling my fiance about getting the band. He loves chubby chicks and thinks they're cute, so when I said I wanted to lose weight he said he didn't want me to...I then explained that it was for my health and I'll still be the same person. He knows that I've had really bad back problems and he became supportive even though I was going to look different. He now gets excited whenever I lose a kilo. He seems really happy for me. You could try and let your boyfriend know that the band only does 1/4 of the work and that you've had to work your butt off to lose the weight. I'm sure he won't think any less of you and I think it's important to tell the truth in a relationship. -
If it makes you feel better and if your surgeon recommends it, then I'd say go for it. Everyone's different and has different worries and different circumstances.

It's a good excuse to get a new bracelett lol. I wouldn't get one though. I don't think I really need one, but to each their own.

I can't wait to lose Snookie too.

How did you know when you needed a fill
WrenBird replied to toyrenee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor goes by that chart too! I'm in the yellow stage at the moment. I'm getting a fill today. -
2 weeks post op HELP
WrenBird replied to christina353's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
19 lbs is amazing!! I think you're being a bit hard on yourself. You've probably reached a plateau stage. I wouldn't worry too much. The heartburn could be from your band being too tight. Do you know if they put a fill in during surgery? In the meantime you could look for a heartburn med from your chemist. They might have a liquid version you can have. All the best! Keep at it! -
For those who are pear shaped...
WrenBird replied to isaviolinist's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm pear shaped a bit...My bottom isn't predominantly larger than the rest of me, but my stomach seems to go in quite a bit just bellow my rib cage. I'm sort of a mixture between pear shaped and hour glass. I just found this on google: If you are an apple, you will want to focus on aerobic training in order to slim down and lose body fat. By working on the lower half of your body, you can help balance out your chest and shoulders. Look to perform exercises that are low-resistance and involve low repetitions, such as: stairclimbing walking on an incline running leg squats, leg presses, and deadlifts Top Fitness Tips: Excercise for Your Body Type and 8 toning exercises for apple shaped women: http://www.3fatchicks.com/8-toning-exercises-for-apple-shaped-women/ Might be worth getting a personal trainer for a week to teach you which exercises to do. Good luck! -
Problems Eating Certain Foods
WrenBird replied to LauraBAP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pastry is a bit no-no for me. Pretty much anything super carby is hard to get down - I think a lot of people are like that. Oranges were particuarly difficult, so I'd just suck the juice out of them and throw the rest away lol. I can eat those now. -
Only if you take it everyday for a prolonged period of time. Your body relies on it too much and then you have problems releasing your bowels by yourself. Every 5 days sounds ok though.

Vitamin E cream and Bio Oil (not sure if you can buy that where you live, but it's quite popular here in Australia). -
Turned away for cheating
WrenBird replied to lashonda23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow. Am I really going to have to find all of the threads where you mentioned Optifast? or eating 1200 calories? or starvation mode? or everything else you've been bothering me about or disagreed with me just for the sake of it? Thankgod. Please do. Now hopefully you'll leave me alone and stop being so horrible to me. -
Finally! I get another fill tomorrow!
WrenBird posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon decided to go away on the day of my intended appointment, so I'm getting it done a little late. I'm a bit worried that I have a leakage of my band at the moment which a few people asked me to update them on. I've really had to pull through these past couple of days because I've been very hungry lately. Has anyone put on weight waiting for a fill? -
Turned away for cheating
WrenBird replied to lashonda23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's nice to see that you don't care that following me around and disagreeing with me on more than 5 different subjects (interestingly enough) doesn't bother you. It bothers me and there was a time where I didn't want to come back here because everything I'd say, no matter how many people agreed with me, you'd disagree and say that YOU'VE done it and it doesn't work for you. After coming back after 4 days to see a once again rediculous post at trying to make me look bad, I just got sick of it. This has happened multiple times and it seems like ignoring you doesn't work anymore. I come here to get motivated to lose weight and help people with my experiences of weight loss and your nastiness is ruining it for me. Don't call me a bully. YOU are obviously doing what you're doing on purpose. It's obvious you have a problem with me because in my first thread here you misunderstood something I said and it made you look stupid. Ever since then you've been on my jock about EVERYTHING. You say you don't know who I am?...So how do you know soooo much about me? You're quick to judge for someone who doesn't even know me. You said that you've only lost what? 38 lbs in a year since you got your band? I'm just going by what you're saying. It makes me wonder if you put it there just to look better on the forums. Are you following me around and disagreeing with me so you can look better on the forums too? I work my ass off and it works for me. I've lost 33 lbs in less than 2 months and I'm pretty darned proud of myself and what I'm doing is working for ME and I think you need to leave me alone and stop dropping these little hints that you think I haven't got a clue what I'm talking about when obviously what I'm doing is working. P.S: I'm so sorry to the thread starter for hijacking your thread. I just can't take this grouchy women anymore!! -
Turned away for cheating
WrenBird replied to lashonda23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Um... A doctor can see if their liver hasn't shrunk enough. People get turned away all the time because they can't opperate because of that. Read this thread and a majority of people know that. Optifast makes your liver shrink and if you follow the diet correctly you can't help but lose weight because you lose weight from your liver. Unless you've had some strange allergic reaction to something in Optifast, that makes you put on weight from non-existant calories and your liver then retains Water from it, I find it all very hard to believe. Maybe you need to exercise more. I don'tt hink you should put down Optifast when it helps a lot of people before surgery shrink their livers and make it easier to opperate. Telling them that a pre-op diet isn't important is ignorant and I think you're only doing this to disagree with me, once again. I also find it hard to believe that you'd stick to a very hard to follow diet for a month when you're not losing any weight. This gives me reason to believe that you've never been on Optifast and you continuously state that you have to prove me wrong from a disagreement we had 3 weeks ago. Optifast isn't just a 'diet', it's used to shrink your liver before surgery. That's why people go on those diets before surgery. Get over it. We have different opinions. You shouldn't lie in order to convince people you know what you're talking about. I also think you shouldn't lie about your weight loss in your signature - it's a little off putting to be honest. -
Is anyone on this one? At first I thought it was a load of poopie until they described my bloodtype as 'slightly lactose intollerant, builds muscle and needs protein' and all of the foods I'm meant to be eating to stay slim are the ones I hate! Ironically, the ones I love so much are the ones I'm not meant to be eating. It describes my eating habbits and the reason I'm so overweight (though obviously it's not the whole reason I'm overweight...I'm aware of that lol). I'm still not 100% convinced, but I do know of a lady who lost 40 kilos on it and her daughter lost 33 who swear by it. One of the big issues for me is that the foods I'm meant to eat are a lot of meat (which I hate) and things that are high in Protein (which often come with a lot of fat). Anyone been on this? Has it worked for you? What's your blood type? Do you think it's poopie? Let me know :frown:

I think the whole thing is really interesting, but I wouldn't want to go onto that diet anyway because the food is crap. I've heard all of the bullcrap diets lol. A lady at aqua aerobics the other day said this, "It's better to exercise on a empty stomach. Your body takes energy from your left over fat rather than the food in your stomach!". I didn't quite know what to say. I just smiled and said, "wow, that's very interesting".

Is any weight loss surgery covered? They could be an alternative to lap-band.
