I love KFC and mustard. Anyone who knows me, knows that. But now that I'm eating healthier, KFC is out of the question (except I ate a bit today...It was only potato though...Don't judge me, I haven't eaten junk food in months!). Anyways, here's a good recipee for Faux Fried Chicken: 1 lb chicken tenders or boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into thin strips 3 Tbsp Dijon mustard (Or just use wholegrain mustard with egg) 2 1/2 c cornflakes 2 tsp minced fresh sage 1 tsp minced fresh thyme BBQ or honey-mustard sauce (optional) 1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spray with nonstick cooking spray. Using a pastry brush, coat each piece of chicken with Dijon mustard. 2. In a food processor or blender, combine the cornflakes, sage, thyme, and salt and pepper to taste. Pulse to a coarse meal and transfer to a shallow dish. Dredge each chicken strip in the cornflake mixture until evenly coated. Place on baking sheet and bake until cooked through, 8 to 10 minutes. Serve with dipping sauce, if desired. Makes 4 servings. Per serving: 170 cal, 0.5 g fat (0 g sat fat), 15 g carbs, 1 g fiber, 360 mg sodium, 27 g protein. P.S: Sorry if this has been posted before. :blushing:

Help! Can't stop burping - 2 weeks post surgery

Hi, Is it possible you could go to the chemist to get something to relief gas? -
Woohoo! Congrats! I ate some KFC today. Blergh...It was a mixture of potato and chips...I felt like crap afterwards, but I could hardly eat anything. Yes, it's a fantastic feeling to look at food and not want to scoff the whole lot! P.S: UFC is awesome. Cheers.

Do you measure your food? If so... how much do you eat in a sitting?
WrenBird replied to jessicakolman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon or my doctor doesn't seem to find a problem with it...I'm getting all of the nutrients I need. Protein isn't a problem for me because I drink Protein shakes and 3 days after my fill I still find it hard to eat meat. I eat a variety of different lettuces and usually that's just so I have an excuse to use mustard. Mustard is my favourite. Instead of snacking on Cookies and biscuits like I used to, I snack on celery and it makes me full...I don't see a problem with that at all. It's also hard for me to find foods that I actually CAN eat, so I'm sticking to fruits and vegtables...Which is good, so I don't understand the fuss this has caused. It's not like I only eat 1 meal a day...I eat heaps a day, it's just really really healthy food. This is because my band is very tight at the moemnt and fruit and vegtables have a lot of Water in them and are easier to swallow...I think everyone should eat leafy greens when they're hungry. I enjoy drinking protein shakes too... Maybe I put it in a context that was hard to understand... Here, I'll sum up my day a little better. and no, I'm not being a smartarse. I wake up and have a Protein shake. I go for a 20 minute walk. I then eat celery because it makes me full and goes down easy (besides the stringy part, I have to spit that out). I eat a stick at a time and eat some whenever I get hungry. For lunch I either have a protein shake or I'll have an early dinner, which I won't finish (because it's in quite a large bowl) which consists of different types of lettuces coated in mustard. I use mustard instead of dressing - I love mustard. Then I'll go for a 40 minute walk, or I'll break it up to two 20 minute walks. I can never eat the whole bowl, so I eat that for dinner. At the moment I am very tight from the fill I've just had, so obviously I'd rather use the small amount of food I can eat as fruits and nutrient filled vegtables, rather than calorie enriched ones. If you get enough nutrients, then your body doesn't go into starvation mode. I also make sure I'm eating throughout the day and don't get hungry. I think I just put it the wrong way. There's honestly nothing wrong with what I'm doing. If you follow the Optifast rules, you're actually meant to gradually go into eating salads and light meals. I eat leafy green vegtables also because I was low on Vitamin D, which I'm assuming I no longer am. -
Can you buy Unjury in the store?

Hi, I'm not aware of this product. I'll have a look at the body building store when I go there next. What is it? -

WrenBird replied to jessicakolman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When it comes to my bloodwork I'm apparently very healthy besides Vitamin D. I am too tight, I had my first fill a few days ago...Since then I can only eat food that has a lot of Water in it - like fruits and vegtables. I drink Protein shakes that have more Vitamins and minerals in it than what I used to eat before the band. Lettuce and mustard is my favourite food...and very low on calories. Mmmmm. It's also one of the few things I can eat before I get an unfill. Edit: I eat lots fo leafy vegtables as well to get Vitamin D. I also walk for an hour a day - so I'm assuming I'm getting better in that area thanks to leafy vegtables and sun exposure. -
Help! Getting Banded on Monday and still haven't chosen a protein shake!
WrenBird replied to boricuanessa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Optifast has been proven to shrink your liver, which increases your chance of a successful surgery. 3 meals is also under 500 calories a day. I'm still on it 2/3 of the day because I lose a lot of weight on it. -
That's crazy. I know when I had mine done it was difficult for me to lay down and I was bitching and complaining about how I couldn't lay down for a few days and my back hurt but damn...I guess it could've been worse for me. Glad you're ok now.

WrenBird replied to jessicakolman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just eat a bowl of food for dinner early and if I can't finish it, I later eat it at night when I'm hungry again. It's usually just lettuce and wholegrain mustard. The rest of my food just consists of a stick of celery or an Optifast shake. So yeah, I don't really measure it or anything. -
9 days post op and sooo hungry
WrenBird replied to Kylie0707's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I cheated :-) But I wish I hadn't...Because now I'm paranoid that my band doesn't work because I don't have appetite supression. Oh, I also ate something that got stuck. Baby food on the first week when I was meant to be on liquids...It passed through quickly but increasing the chances of that increases your chances of having a slipped band. At the moment your band is trying to heal into place, if you overdo it by cheating, you'll mess it up. So maybe try not to do that. Just eat more throughout the day so you don't feel as hungry, I guess. -
AM I Eating too much...if I am I gotta get back on track

Like Betsy said, everyone's different. But I think you'll find that scientifically your body reacts to lack of nutrients rather than lack of calories. -

WrenBird replied to samndaisy64's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure starvation mode kicks in when you're not getting enough nutrients and calories, thus taking them from muscles and organs. From my understanding, it's perfectly safe as long as you're getting the right nutriants and Vitamins your body needs - which can be done quite easily under 1000 calories. I heard that your body can go into starvation mode and hang to every calorie by eating even 3000 calories a day if you're not getting enough nutrients. A lot of approved shakes on the market are under 500 calories, but are successful because they offer some - if not all of the nutrients you need. If you eat less, your metabolism goes down (which I honestly don't think is that much of a problem as it's usually too small of an adjustment to worry about), but it's easy to eat a lot under 1000 calories and feel full. Basically you can eat 1000 calories of fat and go into starvation mode, or you can eat 1000 calories and be eating good food with lots of nutrients and not have a problem. It's not about the calories, it's whats in the food you're eating. Sure, it's hard, but it's not impossible and not everyone who eats less than 1000 calories a day goes into starvation mode. I'm currently at a plateaux and have had to go back onto Optifast which is less than 500 calories a day for me. I'm still losing weight, just slower than I was to begin with, though it's starting to pick up now that I've changed my diet. It's also been proven that the slower you lose weight the more muscle you keep. So unless you're losing 8 kilos a week from eating under 1000 calories I honestly don't see a problem with it. It's entirely achievable, and for someone who now enjoys fresh fruit and rarely gets full, I can honestly say it's easier than it looks. -

AM I Eating too much...if I am I gotta get back on track
WrenBird replied to samndaisy64's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welllll I try to eat less than 1000 calories a day. The other day I ate 2700, so you can imagine the exercise I had to do to stop myself from feeling very very guilty. I also exercise for an hour a day...The kilos aren't particularly falling off for me, so I guess I have to work harder. In the end it depends on how hungry you are. Just make sure you're eating less calories than you're burning off and don't torture yourself or you might binge. But yeah, I wouldn't go over 1200 calories (despite the fact that I did the other day. argh.) to lose weight. If you go on Optifast you eat less than 500 calories a day...Now THAT'S hard lol. -
Starting to regret getting Lap Band
WrenBird replied to jessicakolman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know this is off track but I think you look great and you've lost a lot of weight. That's soemthing you should be proud of. I was sort of thinking maybe I should've just had gastric bypass too...When people ask me if I think they should get it done, I tell them to get the sleeve or a gastric bypass...The fills are annoying, but in the end the most important thing is that you're atleast a bit healthier than you were pre-op. -
Airport scanners and the band

Not sure how similar they are, but I had a CT scan after my surgery to check for blood clots and it all seemed ok with me. :-) I thought those machines were magnetic...Freaky... -
AM I Eating too much...if I am I gotta get back on track
WrenBird replied to samndaisy64's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyday I enter what I eat into my account at fitday.com It tells you how many calories you've burnt and how many you've eaten. It also does a bunch of other stuff. It might be helpful to you to keep on track and know roughly how many calories you're burning and intaking. Cheers, WrenBird. -
Yep. Same thing happened to me. When you're in surgery and they give you a tube to breath, saliva trickles down your throat and into your lungs. When this happens the lungs react with producing mucus that's easier to cough up to get the other stuff out of your lungs. It's happened to me everytime I've had surgery.

I think there is.

How do you know if your band has a leak?
WrenBird replied to shibalover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't you have to get a fill every month or so? The Fluid naturally dissipates through the band, which is why you need to go back and get a fill...I'm pretty sure some people get it done every 1-3 months.
