Hello from South Dakota
battleweary replied to cannaday's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Question, Cannaday, What is your opinion of Dr Strand? How is his "bedside" manner? Since Dr Harris is closing his clinic, I have to find a new aftercare doctor. -
Hello from South Dakota

I was banded in January of 2007 in Mexico by Dr Kuri. I have been getting fills in Sioux Falls by Dr. Harris, but his clinic is closing. I had lost 43 lbs and kept it off until about 6-7 months ago, and now have gained 10 back. My own fault, I am a stress eater and my job has been awful. Of course with the economy the way it is I certainly have to grin and bear it! My problem is that I began grazing again, and you can't do that with the band. Grazing enables you to consume waaaay too many calories than just eating your meals and a small snack. I too am trying to get my head back on straight and have just joined a fitness club that is across the street from where I work in Watertown. Plan on spending my lunch hours on the treadmill to get moving again. Anyone from my area who would like to get together? Battleweary, for sure. P.S. I am a 57 year old female. -
Thats a good idea....I will talk to the doctor when I go next week. Thanks for responding. I guess I am skittish about fills, because the doctor says if I get an overfill he would have to empty it and start all over again. I have an Inamed Lap Band, 9.75 cm, with a fill capacity of 4 cc's.

Hi everyone, I am a very slow loser; banded in January of 2007 and have lost 41 lbs to date. I have had 3 fills and my doctor says I am about 1/2 full. I have never had a productive burp and I have never had food get stuck and never have any problem eating bread or chicken like so many others have. I am going for another fill next week and hope it will get me going again, since I have not lost an ounce in 3 months. Frustrating, but I keep plugging along....... By the way, I am 56 years old and sit at a desk for 9 hours a day, so that is slowing things down too, I'm sure. Try to get exercise but I am so stressed out and exhausted from my work (I am a credit and collections manager) that I come home at night and simply CRASH. I did get a small "stroll" machine for under my desk so that at least my feet are moving during the day. Battleweary

How is weight loss for people over 50?
battleweary replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Everyone, I haven't been here for a while. I was banded in January by Dr Kuri and have only lost 14 lbs. I am 55 years old and will be going for my third fill next week. The doctor I found in Sioux Falls to do my aftercare and fills believes in only very small fills once per month until the sweet spot is found. I was very discouraged for a while, but now I am happy that I have stopped the upward spiral of weight gain and even if it takes several years at least the scale is going in the right direction. I was banded at 216 lbs and am now at 202. I want to get into the 100's so badly!!! -
Congrats on your upcoming surgery! I just got back from being banded by Dr Kuri last Friday (Jan 19th). All the people there are just awesome! Dr Kuri is really kind, I can't say enough for the care and the people. One thing I wish I had had with me was my English/Spanish dictionary. Most of the nurses at the hospital have VERY limited English, and being able to look up a word in English to show them in Spanish would have helped a lot. Good luck! I got brave and stepped on the scale this morning, and have already lost 4 lbs. YEAH! I'm on my way!!!

Hi Fellow SDakotans! I live in Watertown and am going to be banded on Jan. 19th in Mexico by Dr Kuri in TJ. I'm so excited I can hardly stand it! I am a self-pay so am trying to line up aftercare and fills by a doctor in SD. Does Dr. Reynolds in Mitchell see patients banded in Mexico?

Anyone have Dr. Kuri in TJ Mexico?
battleweary posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi all, I am scheduled to be banded on Jan.19th by Dr Pedro Kuri. I have been reading reading reading and haven't really seen if anyone is familiar with Dr. Kuri. If anyone has experience with him, could you drop a line? It would ease my (and my hubby's) apprehension very much. Thanks, Battleweary -

Thanks so much everyone, for your replys. I will look into lining up a doctor for fills right away. I'm kind of technologically handicapped, so I don't know how to respond to any of these messages by email directly. Also, I had surgery on my left index finger last week so typing is a bit tedious. Nothing serious, just a cyst removed from the first joint, but I can't bend it and have to keep it in a splint for a month. My surgery is 1 month from today, I'm getting excited!!! Thanks again! -
Hi Neighbors, I'm from South Dakota, originally from MN (twin cities). I will be banded in Mexico in January and am so thankful for this forum. I will be looking for someone to do my fills, possibly in Mpls or Sioux Falls. Battleweary
