    mirena anyone?

I have one, and I absolutely love it. After having my twin boys, I wanted something permanent, and I don't even notice it anymore! I don't get much use out of it being a single mom (LOL) but like most everyone else, I don't have a period anymore and there are no side-effects like some of the oral BC I've taken.

    Getting depressed or down...

*hugs* Everything will be okay, sweetie. I know what you mean, though. I started consulting with a doctor in 2008, and I'm just NOW getting banded in December 2010 after I finally decided to self-pay. Stupid insurance would only save me about $400...and they don't even cover fills. Just try to be proactive, and stay on the boards, it's helped me alot with passing the time! Good luck!!

    First month after surgery

Wow, you can see a big difference.
  8. I'm paying $10,400 for surgery center and surgeon fees, but it DOESN'T include a year of fills. :'(

    Major Bummer ! Surgery post-poned

Definitely. Safer is always better, it's great that your surgeon actually cares enough to postpone. Some of them might just want that payout. My surgery date is December 23rd, so maybe we can be buddies!

    I've hit a wall ....

Hmm, you might have lost your period for a while due to the weight loss? I know that happened to a friend of mine when she first got banded. Are you on birth control?

    Major Bummer ! Surgery post-poned

That's gotta be tough. At least you'll be able to enjoy Thanksgiving, as little as your pre-op diet lets you. Hope you get better quickly!!

    question about self pay

I have a BMI of 43, but even WITH insurance I'd have to pay $9,900 and some change, and I'd have to go on a 6 month diet before being banded to even qualify. Since my insurance doesn't cover fills anyway, I've elected to pay the extra $500 to get a year of fills for free and get it done sooner. They definitely let anyone self-pay (anyone who qualifies for the surgery in the first place anyway), so I'd just go speak to a surgeon in your area. I've heard Mexico is the way to go, though, it's about 1/2 the price as in the U.S., and I'm sure their surgeons are JUST as good or they wouldn't be allowed to perform the surgery, and the surgeons here definitely wouldn't be recommending them. I'd say just research it and present whatever you find to your husband and explain why it's the best option for you. Good luck!

    Hello everyone! Im new!

I'm sorry she's so unsupportive, sweetie. I just scheduled my surgery 2 weeks ago (December 23rd!) and one of my best friends is very non-supportive of my choice. (Think along the lines of, "I should be able to do it by myself" "If I just got off my butt and did it I'd feel alot better" etc.) It's not an easy thing. I actually got lucky in that my mom had the lapband in 2007, so she's there for me, when I need to rant and rave about how excited I am, or on the other end of the spectrum "IS IT GONNA HURT?!" lol I think that you have to do what's right for you, no matter what your mother thinks, but if you want her to understand, maybe approach her in a way that she'll get. If she's very literal, show her the risks and benefits, and how much the benefits outweigh the SMALL risk! I'm only 23 and I'm 5'6" and 270 lbs. I'm also a mom to young kids (twin 3-year-olds) and at first I was worried about how I would take care of my kids post-surgery, but I know everything will fall into place. My parents are going to help me with them, because they'll already be off work around the time I get mine for Christmas break. As for how long you will have to wait, it depends on the insurance. My doctor is requiring me to get a psych consult, a physical (getting blood tests, etc done as well), and he wants me to get a sleep study done to make sure I don't have sleep apnea. I'm self-paying, although I have insurance, they want me to go on a diet for 6 months, but since I'd still have to meet my deductible beforehand, it would only save me about $400. Kind of crappy, if you ask me. Usually you only have to wait about a month or two if you're really dedicated! Like I said before, you have to make sure it's right for you! Have you already had your initial consult?
  14. Thanks for the friend request!

  15. Well, hi everyone. I'm Rhonda, I'm 23, getting banded in December of this year - the 30th to be exact - just set my surgery date today! I was just wondering if there was anyone else out there going for their surgery on the same day? Or if you've already had it done, that's great too! I'm the only one overweight in my group of friends and I'm a single mom of two. Just looking for some nice people to enjoy the journey with!

    In Limbo Here....HELP!

I'm in the same boat, only I'm self-pay. The insurance wanted me to do the 6 month diet, but I don't have the patience... PLUS, I'd still have to pay out the 10k deductible. So paying $10,400 without insurance assistance just seems like a better idea for me. I'm not really sure what I'm going to do while I wait... I guess we could go to stores and fantasize about all the misses (or juniors, if you prefer) sizes we'll fit into soon enough. OR, we could always start exercising!
  17. I'm 23 and I'm also getting banded in December '10 (on the 30th to be exact - just set my surgery date today!), and I'm also worried about having tons of loose skin. Partially because I've been pregnant (with twins) and partially because of what people say about the amount of muscle tone you can lose if you don't work out... maybe we can keep each other motivated! Sorry I don't have anything good to put in, but just letting you know you're not alone in your boat!!
