  1. I know he's attracted to me at my current weight, and I'm sure he definitely wouldn't care one way or another if I lost weight, but it's just getting up the courage to say, "Hey, I'm kind of going through this huge thing... I know we just started hanging out a week ago...but I hope you're behind it!" Just seems like that's the kind of thing that could have the potential to scare him off.

    Introducing Myself!

Good luck at your sleep study! I hope it goes better than mine, I'm a VERY light sleeper so I couldn't sleep at all with all the wires and stuff on me. Good luck with scheduling your surgery! We can do it, ladies!!

    Introducing Myself!

For my pre-op diet I have to substitute two meals for Protein shakes (GAG!), and for one meal do an Atkins type diet, no sugar at all basically. Carbs have always been my downfall, too. I'm a bread-aholic. I think that's the only thing I'll miss!! lol Ugh, everyone has an opinion about what we should do for our health. It's like if I had a cancerous tumor that could be removed with very little chance of complication, why would I leave it in? That's just my way of thinking, maybe it's a bit extreme, but I think for most of us, the Lapband is medically necessary. I live in North Texas. Are your parents on-board with your decision?

    Introducing Myself!

Hi Jillian, I'm also scheduled for surgery December 23rd! Sounds like we've got alot in common, I'm also 5'6" and also around 270 lbs, and I'm 23. What does your pre-op diet look like, if you have one? Glad to see another young woman on here, I'm pretty nervous getting this being so young, all my friends think I can just do it the "old fashioned way" but believe me, I've tried just like you. Where abouts do you live? Oh, and by the way, welcome to the forum! Everyone on here is very supportive and awesome.

    Self pay people

Haven't gotten mine yet, but am going to in less than a month... $9900 for first year of office visits and fills. <3
  6. Only 24 days until my life changes forever! Can't wait to get my band. :)

  7. Oh, I love this idea! I'm definitely gonna have to make one myself.

    Dr. Louis Fox - Awesome

I'm considering having Dr. Fox to perform my surgery as well! Did you go through True Results?
  9. I actually just switched surgeons today (about an hour ago, oy!) so I don't really know who my new doc is... I switched because my old surgeon wanted $10,400 up front, NOT including fills, and I just switched to a new place that is $9,900 with free fills for one year. So I'm excited about saving some money and my surgery. lol

I'm pretty sure my diet will be starting December 9th as well. But I think I'll be having mostly liquids and one real meal (very low fat and calorie) a day. So it'll definitely be hard but more manageable that way.

Who's your surgeon? Whereabouts are you from? :)

  10. Hey, we have the same surgery date! :) Are you ready? lol

  11. My surgery date is December 23rd too!! We should be band buddies!!
  12. I'm December 23rd! I've also been eating like a horse (or cow) lately too! What all types of pre-op testing has everyone had to do? I had to get two sleep studies (I have sleep apnea, apparently), a psych consult, all kinds of fasting pre-op labs (of course). I haven't even started my pre-op diet! It's exhausting, not to mention expensive for babysitters and whatnot. (I'm a self-pay.) I thought I'd just schedule it and it'd fall into place with almost no effort, apparently not!

    They couldnt fill me!!!!

Wowza, I'm paying 10.4k for my surgery, can't imagine having to eat another almost $700 because the port flipped. Do you have the regular size or low profile?

    They couldnt fill me!!!!

Wow, if that kind of thing happens do you have to pay for it, or did your surgeon do it for free? I need to stop reading this site!! lol

What birth control should I use?

I actually got the depo shot in 2007 after I had my twins, and I gained almost 60 pounds in a couple of months. I've heard of the shot having that effect on TONS of women, but of course not until they jammed that needle in my backside, my OB did NOT tell me of this possible side effect or I'd never have done it. I'm not a medical professional by any means, but I'd advise anyone who asked for my opinion not to get it.

What birth control should I use?

[edit] I know! I'm truly ready for a change, I'm so excited. <3 How long have you had yours, or are you banded already? [/edit] Oh, on October 8th! LOL guess I could have checked your post. Silly me. You've done great so far!!

What birth control should I use?

I have a Mirena IUD, I would recommend that, it works wonders. It's low-dose BC that doesn't use estrogen. You can have it up to 5 years and it's ALOT cheaper in the long run than other BC you'd pay for monthly or quarterly for the 5 year span. Also, for me, it stopped my periods, which is pretty fantastic! Some of my other friends also use Nuvaring, and that works well for them, the hard part might be remembering to change it though (for me personally, that's why I got the Mirena, I hate remembering to take pills!). I would just consult your gyno about it, I know some won't put in Mirena if you haven't had at least one child. I don't know your situation, but I thought I'd mention it just in case.

    Hi everyone!!

Hi Rosebud! Welcome to LBT, I'm a pre-op gal as well, my date is December 23rd. I know what you mean about flying blind, I've been overweight my entire life as well. Are you going through insurance or self-pay? :crying: Tell us all about ya!
  19. I have twin boys! Aren't they precious? Sorry, I know...THAT'S what I get from that whole thing. =P
  20. Wow, how rude can a person be? I guess she's just so used to telling people how to eat since she's a nutritionist's assistant that she thinks she knows what you're going through, too. I'm getting the LapBand in about 5 weeks and my father is very judgmental about everything I eat as well. (If I had a nickel for every time I have heard, "Is that on your diet?" for the last 2 years I would have about $100. Which, coincidentally, would probably get me a fill once I get my band.) I would just explain to her that you don't appreciate her comments, and you certainly did not tell her about your surgery so she could judge your eating habits from here on. BTW, 35 pounds is great - congrats!

    Finally did it!

I don't have any suggestions - not being banded yet myself - but I just wanted to say congratulations on making the first step in your weight-loss journey! Oh, and it most likely is gas, it seems like it can settle pretty much anywhere, I'm sure people have good advice in the forum as to what to do about the pain.

    Don't know how to feel.

Your girlfriend is already morbidly obese, she has PCOS, so her weight will continue to balloon... I really don't think that this is a healthy person. (As everyone else said, she may not have health issues other than the PCOS yet, but she likely will.) I'm younger (23) and I don't have any health issues yet, but I'm almost 267 pounds and 5'7", believe me when I tell you it's a hard world out there for a large woman of any age. I understand and acknowledge your fears for her, and I'm sure she is gorgeous at her current weight, but even if your girlfriend is getting the surgery to be "thin" I have a hard time realizing why you're begrudging her this. If a person is unhappy with themselves, they should try and change whatever it is that is making them unhappy. She's obviously not doing it for you, but for herself, so I think that in itself is a good sign that she will not regret doing it. Since it's virtually impossible for her to lose the weight the "old fashioned way," this is a great tool to aid her in her lifestyle change. It's my belief that you should be supportive of her, and that you are being a little bit overprotective (not that it's not fantastic that you're wanting to research it more), just try not to focus on the bad you hear about the band, because the people with horrible experiences are few and far between. And 90% of the time it's user error, nothing to do with the band itself. Every surgery has its risks. I wish you and your girlfriend good luck with whatever she decides! :rolleyes2:

Advice needed for when to tell family....

I have only told a few people about my choice to get banded as well (I'm getting it in December), and 1/3 of the people I've told have had negative reactions. Out of only 6 or 7 people, that's kind of horrible. I told my dad last week, but only because I have a sleep study this weekend that I need my parents to watch my kids for. Or else I probably would have waited until the day I got it. ("Surprise, I had surgery!") It really sucks when you think someone you love won't support you, but he was actually fine with it. I hope you find the support you need from your MIL and the rest of your husband's family!
