A few months ago I was thrilled I was able to run 1 mile, well today I just finished a 5 mile run. I am so happy, Its been alot of hard work but its all paying off!

well, That would be a great goal! I have never been a runner myself but I started on the treadmill. My knee's hips and ankles were killing me for a while. I kept at it, started out walking on the treadmill, then I would run for 30 seconds....then a minute....then 1 1/2 minutes... well I kept doing this for a while until one day I ran a mile. I just kept pushing a little more. Every week I set a new distance goal. Now when your are ready to start road running be prepared for a mental set back. I could hardly run 1/2 mile on the road my first time out. Road running is alot different then the treadmill. I suggest starting on the treadmill. Its alot more forgiving then the pounding of the road. I got motivated because my friends pushed me into running this trot. They all said I could do it.(I wasnt so sure). It was something That motivated me to try harder and train so I didnt get left behind....lol... Its one of my greatest personal accomplishments. I know anybody who is in the position I was in a year ago would also be so very proud of them selves. Set that goal, or pick a 5k run and do that! its a great experience. Good luck!

16 Months Post Lap Band Surgery And Gaining Weight...help!!
NYdad replied to Mismistee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
hello, I guess my 1st question is when was your last adjustment. If you have lost weight and never tighten it up, that could cause it. imagine your belt that you wear for your pants. you lose weight and your belt gets loose. you then move it in one notch. well you may need to adjust the band in a "notch"...... just a thought. Try the cottage cheese test. I have lost 7-8 pounds since my last adjustment but gained muscle weight from exercise and I can feel I have lost restriction. Not a big deal, I will just have the doc add a 1/2cc when I see him in december. -
Only a week to go and I will be joining 13000 others running in the local ymca turkey trot. 5 mile run! I know I can run 3 miles, this 5 will be a true test for me. THANK YOU Lapland! This has been the best tool I have ever owned!

Prolapse. Will Have Lap Band Surgery Again.
NYdad replied to JJLaw08's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
how did you realize you were having a problem? How did you know you were bulging again? could you feel it or was it just from the scope? I always have concerns that I may be bulging and not know it. I just assume I am loose and that is why I can eat regularly and pretty much anything.......(not a lot) but anything at all will go down with out problem as long as i eat slow and chew properly. Thanks for the post its very helpful for everyone. -
Has Anyone Had Their Lap Band Port Move Around?
NYdad replied to tammylee205's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
not really sure it has actually come unstitched and moved but with my weight loss it is not as high as it was and it doesnt line up with my scar anymore. Its close, but not where it used to be. -
I agree with the above..... I would have good restriction for a while but once I lost weight it would loosen up. Kinda like adjusting your waist belt. You get smaller and you need to tighten it up.

I hear ya Brother, Running my first 5 mile turkey trot on thanksgiving with 13200 other individuals. I would have never considered this before my band but now I cant wait! To bad more of us wouldn't think about posting our positives when things are good in our banded journey. I love my new life thanks to my band and my own personal hard work.

Prolapse. Will Have Lap Band Surgery Again.
NYdad replied to JJLaw08's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had this problem. I was devastated. I had all the fluid removed for 8 weeks and 1cc at a time (every 2 weeks) my doc slowly refilled me. I am still not as full as I was when I felt like i had ideal restriction but I am now afraid to have it that tight again. I have a 14cc band and I am currently at 10cc. I was at 11.5cc when I had the issue. I sometimes think about adding more but I am afraid It will prolapse again. At 10cc I feel restriction and it does help with not over eating but I am hungry soon after. I guess I figured its better to be a little loose and not gain weight. I put on 15 pounds when I had zero restriction. I have lost that 15, but for the last few months all weight loss has stopped. I'm ok with that as long as I can keep my band. I am 20 pounds away from my goal and I realize that I still need it. I did have a scope done and everything was ok. I need to decide if I want to tempt disaster and add more fluid or just keep fighting the snack time temptations. My doc says I will be ok to add more fluid and I shouldn't have any issues but my concern is very real, I cant afford to miss work or pay for a repair.... good luck and I hope this helps. Please keep us posted. -
Getting better and better and stronger and stronger, before I started this journey I couldnt walk up a flight of stairs without being winded, yesterday I ran 3 miles! I cant wait to actually run a 5k with my friends! People, stay positive and work hard! People read so much negative, I just wanted to share my positive. I love my Lapband

EXCELLENT POST. YOU GOT IT EXACTLY RIGHT. I HAVE LIVED WHAT YOU WROTE. I TOO HAVE A 14CC BAND. IT TAKES A WHILE.

hey Justin, I'm a hungry man just like you and I can tell you from experience that you are 99% most likely fine. I felt the same way and had the exact same fears. I was horrified at how much I could eat so soon after surgery. I did the best I could on eating right but had plenty of slip ups. Make sure you are doing the absolute best you can at eating correctly. Its going to take some time before you feel restriction. with my doc it took me 4 months or so and 6-7 fills. I have a 14cc band and it felt the same until I got to 8cc then I could feel it. My doc would only give me .5cc-1cc at a time. its very frustrating but normal.(bandster hell) welcome to it. YOUR FINE BUD- TRUST ME! feel free to contact me anytime. via this site

"One of Western New York’s most treasured events, the YMCA Turkey Trot brings together more than 12,500 runners of all ages and levels every Thanksgiving morning for a holiday celebration like no other" This is the one I'm doing! My friends neglected to mention its actually 8k but hey. I will give it my all and with their help, who knows, maybe I can do it..(.hmmm?) We will see.

nah, dont stress, its normal to eat alot that soon after surgery. I didnt feel restriction for a while and multiple fills. Its different for everyone. Dont sweat it. It sucks but its normal.

went to the dr today. If your debating lapband or not...

well I guess this is good. I went for a check up and slight adjustment today and found i haven't really lost much but somewhere I lost 7 pounds of fat. Not sure how that works but my measurements say I did... I have been lifting weights and running a lot more than usual. I was getting very annoyed that with all this extra work the scale wasn't moving. I guess I should have figured something was happening because people at work starting making positive comments again.(that stopped for a while). I actually had to get a new photo ID for work because I look so different now. For all of you who are nervous and unsure about doing this all I can say is I believe this has saved my life. I am a new person. Do it! stay positive and FOLLOW the rules as best as you can. We all slip up and have weak days but its ok. I am off all of my medication and I no longer use that horrible sleep apnea machine. So many people only post the negatives... I am here to say this is the most positive thing I've ever done for my self... -
Ok so I am in the green zone. I have lost a great amount of weight and I am totally satisfied about that. Here is the problem. I have hit a wall and have been at at for 4 months or so. I work out hard and I eat right. I need to lose about 20 more pounds. I run about 1.5 miles a day and light weight lifting. sit ups, push ups and jumping jacks are all in the mix....now, why have I stopped? I mean day to day the scale is the same. I have turned up the exercising to try and jump start the loss, but nothing. any ideas?

Newbie here on wait list with Kaiser. HELP
NYdad replied to gibsongirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
its a very slow and painful process. You have to be dedicated and it will work. I would recommend anyone wishing to get control to take this step. I have had great success. It hasnt been easy, With the band you still have to be disciplined and willing to be patient....very patient.... I would do it all over again. Oh and remember when reading postings on this site that a lot of people only think about posting when its something negative and are having issues. If you check out all my postings I have made you will get somewhat of idea about my last year. Good luck! -
I still see myself as obese wearing a 36 inch waiste and an XL shirt
NYdad posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ok do i need to see a shrink. I have lost 82 pounds and I feel great. People tell me I look great. I can fit in xl shirts and 36 inch waiste pants. Why is it when I look in the mirror I see the same fat guy I was before? I know I look different but for some reason when I see myself I appear the same... What gives? Do I need counseling? Also I am worried about the transfer of addiction I here about. I have not found my new addiction. I do find myself longing for something. I dont know what it is but I have a feeling like something is missing. Am I alone on this? Please my fellow bandsters if anyone is going to understand it will be you all. please give me your thoughts... -

ok, so i see its not just me. Maybe I will see about a few sessions-(depending on my insurance). Has anybody ever caught their reflection and thought wow, I look really good and in the same day caught your reflection wearing the same clothes and now think you look terrible? I have. Thanks for all the input. I keep checking back on this so I read them all. -
