Lapband or Vertical Sleeve
racheyrach replied to gotamakeachange's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This happened to me i was super set on the lap band saw my surgeon and realized it really isn't the best option for me. the only reason why i chose the lap band ( well tell u that and why i chose against it) 1) be able to let out for pregnancy my doctor said they dont let it out for pregnancy since you dont need to eat alot of food to have a baby they put you on a high Protein diet. 2) reversible- Ive had a eating problem my whole life if i have it taken out i know i will get huge again due to ability to eat more. i dont want it to be reversed. ALSO your having a tight band being sown in to ur stomach.. do you really think that wont have a permanent effect anyways. 3) FACTS- i am not saying people dont lose weight on lap band but look at Europeans they were the ones who started this... they dont want to do this anymore. 4) slippage, loss of insurance, eroding, wearing out, fills- it just seemed to much for me to handle . i dont want this plastic in my body. in the end it is always up to you. my doctor told me he do whatever one i wanted and gave me info on all. losing weight is difficult to begin with but i only want one surgery. good luck with what ever you chose . research both before making a decision . Im going with the bypass after being set on lap-band for a year. i feel that if the lapband was really right for me i wouldnt have second guessed so many times. ( i went back and forth for a while) -
dang you halloweem candy....
racheyrach replied to trishfish's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
sorry just had to comment i live with my fiance he is skinny can eat w.e he wants. Even though im not banded yet im not allowing any of this bad food in my mouth so yes the temptation is there when hes stuffing candy and sodas and all the delicious fatty foods down his face( i hate his metabolism)!!... either way i let him eat what he wants which is hard but to yell at someone is not nice and i feel is one of the issues people lose connections in a relationship is because we are more restrictive on what they eat too. and also it is unrealistic to say they can eat these things at other places. Supportive yes Controlling no sorry just had to say it i feel strong about this. -

racheyrach posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! I new here and going through the process with the bariatric center and now at the decision of lap band or bypass. I first inteaded to do lap band but now am in the middle. Have anyone wished they did gastric bypass instead why? and if not what are you reasons for lap band? I need people that are going through the process cuz right now i can only hear what the doctor and my family are saying:redface: -
Negative comments about getting LapBand
racheyrach replied to tryingtolose100's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
there really is nothing worse when people throw their and others weight loss in your face. my uncle did this to me told me how my brothers lost the weight and that i can do it by cutting one food i loved out of my diet (i wish that was the case to lose 100LBs) my fathers side of the family refuses to support me. but i have a couple of people that do and thats all i need i know whats right for me and they dont! ps. i also got the whole you will gain it all back and youre going to sick forever and that since we are both young i got that as well the whole " i could understand if you were in your 40's but not now" yea let me weight 20 more years to gained 100+ more pounds rather than solve my issue now be strong i know im trying to be :smile2: -
Im back after being told more lies

lets put a positive spin on the process! you will be losing weight before the surgery which makes you getting the band so much more successful. because as people put it this is not going to be a "magic fix" you are going to have to do the exercise and the food after the surgery you will be more educated and this will get you prepared AND in shape able to do more exercise than most people which means losing weight faster!! BE POSITIVE!!! -
How to start the process?
racheyrach replied to jtwildone05's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
most surgeons dont require your primary care doctor to say you need it. what i did i googled the surgeons in my area to see to do it then read lots of comments and talk to people who have had surgery done or almost done. At first i went with one then switched cuz rumor was he was getting greedy and not doing his best during surgerys next step is to call the surgeons office and they will pencil you in for the information session where they tell you about the procedure some numbers and what to expect. also what you need to do to get to surgery point. good luck! but before going through all the appts call the insurance and make sure they cover it and what stipulations they have. cuz some require a diet and excerise for a certian amount of time. -

wow a 12 month thats alil excessive! thats a really big upset. but you have to think to your self realize the cost of the 12month program see if you can do that. or cost of lap band out of pocket (payment plan option) but you gotta think is this worth the cost of a new life everyone wants things to happen faster but hey do the program and get it done so you can. cuz its either do this or keep gaining weight! a year from now you can have ur surgery or you could be wishing that you did it and be more overweight and your health deteriorating more. time goes by fast and you will get there:smile2: -
ok i was told by a cardiologist that i would have to come off my bc for 2 months before the surgery? I have implanon which is an implant in my arm thats good for 3 years and i dont want this out. Am i able to sign something that relieves them of any legal issue if i get a blood clot or suttin. or has anyone hear of this? i mean this is a minimal invasive procedure i just dont want it out lol anyone that has similar problem?

racheyrach replied to javalishus's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First of all CONGRATS!! you should be exciting after all that hard work and upsets you are finally doing something that you need and want!! do what ever you can to read up on the surgery. maybe call the surgeon group that will be doing the surgery they will help you. different surgeons require different pre op diets. some only require liquids for 2 weeks or 2 days. you will get informed when you go in. just take a deep breathe and realize your new life is just beginning!!!! -
My super exciting pre op diet
racheyrach replied to emeraldinthesky's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yea i've heard people saying this too. they say its the doctor and what they chosse my doctor requires 2 weeks. Personally i know this will be hard but i think its good cuz after surgury you will be on a liquid diet then mushys. so it nice to know what its like without being thrown in to it. neway gl with ur surgery and ur new life!!!! -
Just wishing there be people from ct on here. I would like to talk to people in my region thats going through this. maybe meet up its hard to find people that accept what I am doing and have this in common.

its good to hear from someone thats in my boat and yes you are right i am covered till 26 BUT will be marrying my fiancee at the end of this year if he is able to get into the airforce and i wasnt sure if they would cover it but i would assume so i guess lol. and your right i completely agree we are in our 20's and for something to be reversible sounds like a great option instead of living a life with issues when we've barley even grown up! this is why with everyones input and my own choice im sticking with lap band ( no matter wat the surgeon says cuz like the other person he tells people we wont lose as fast or get the same result) personally fast would be nice but i read a study that in 5 years they both have the same out come in weight loss and both people tend to gain. -

Friend trying to be supportive but admitted she didn't want me having surgery
racheyrach replied to MustangKitten's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
personally my mom has tried hypnosis for a long time like she would have to go a bunch of times and pay 100+ each visit. Lets just say shes at the same weight. personally for each the lap band or hypnosis it is all mind and willingness but atleast with the lap band you got something other than your mind telling you stop eating! thats why im sticking with the surgery. -

Just Starting... Step 1
racheyrach replied to sunnysocal's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
For me im preop aug- information session with surgeon i chose. aug-sept- had to see pulmonary , cardio , pshy , nutrition luckly i didnt need any stress tests or sleep tests b/c i am under 30 and low risk. so if you need to have these done then it will slow the process down a lil now im awaiting to see the surgeon which is monday then im not sure get sent in for approval . which i called bcbs and they said it should take no more that 24 hours to be approved. oh and i have a lap band meeting for preop class it all depends on the surgeon you see. i wish you luck!!! -
HELP!!...How do I get approved with a new Dr?
racheyrach replied to daraerin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
mine also i havent seen my family doctor in a couple years so when going through the process the surgeon just wanted tests done to show risks and what not. so make a appt to go to an infomation seminar cuz that is the first step. -
Coming off Birth control
racheyrach replied to racheyrach's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yea idk my mom is a RN and told me that it shouldnt be that big of an issue .. i guess ill just wait and see my surgeon and see what he thinks and what nots. -
for most people i have talk to would rather have excess skin (that by the way some insurances pay for to take off) than be overweight and working their way to the grave slowly also it depends on age and the rate you lose ur weight

What insurance is best????
racheyrach replied to jtwildone05's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have anthem bcbs and have no issues ... some of other insurance make you go on a doctor supervised diet for 3-9 months before they approve you for surgery. Just be sure to check with the insurance before going through the whole process -
I was in the same place as you were. First off i have most my family say i shouldnt, im strong, my brothers lost weight without surgery etc etc. except my mother who is for it and would do it if she could. Second of all I researched wls for years before deciding to go through the process i was 30 lbs down then 30lbs up sometimes even gaining more!! trying with out it. lets just say i decided to go threw it wen a couple of months ago my engagement ring couldnt fit and my fiancee asked me why i wouldnt wear it and i was embarrassed to tell him my finger is to fat. in the end your the one that has to live with this not them I wish you luck in what you do.
