My mom is and has been way overweight.  I tried all my life to stay thin, mostly hardly eating and exercising pretty consistently.  Then, I had kids.  With the third one I gained 40 pounds which never came off.  Prednisone gave me another 20 and another 20 sneaked in there somehow.  So, after trying all the diets my mom suggested the lap band.  At first I was totally against it. Then, I looked into it and when I really found out what it was, I was even more against it.  But, I went in for a seminar and what the doctor said really made sense.  So, I began the process with 1800 get slim.  Wrong move.  They had me do all these crazy things that my "insurance" demanded.  Ultimately, my insurance denied the procedure through them and I am glad.  I went to their facility and it was like a cattle herd.  They never got my name right.  People were coming and going and I was taken back to a makeshift surgery section for an upper GI.  Crazy and scary. My coordinator never called me back.I then went to Dr. Leport's office.  He was suggested by my primary GP.  It was very professional and above board.  The steps were all lined out; the insurance process was explained and everything went very smoothly.  My insurance approved the procedure and I had the lapband on September 29, 2010.  My husband was against it the entire time, but he's the one always complaining about my weight.  I didn't tell him about my surgery date until the day before.  He ended up being supportive and really sweet.  I'm just beginning the journey on the other side.  I will update later.
