How long did you have to wait for approval on average?
SDTeaGirl replied to wantitnow's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome. I also had to do the 6 month diet thing and Psych eval. I know it seems like a long time but it really does go fast. I was not happy I had to do it either, wanted to start right away on the new me. But I took that time and now I am better prepared on what it yet to come. I am currently waiting on Insurance Approval now. I'm hoping in a week will hear. It was turned in a week ago today. So excited and hoping April will be my month. Congrats on your choice. And Welcome again. -
StartingProtein Shakes Before you need to...
SDTeaGirl posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm waiting for Insurance approval now. Hope it will happen soon. Did everything, 6 month supervised diet, psych. eval. Now just the waiting game. Didn't really lose much 1-2lbs on supervised diet. But doctor wanted me to try to lose 10 lbs. So I decided to start some Protein Shakes for awhile before I even need to. Did anyone else do this also? Would definely love to get off 10 lbs surgery. Just wondering if he would even do surgery on me if I didn't lose the 10 lbs. -
I just called my Doctors office. They sent in my information to my Insurance company on Monday March 21st. They said it can take 2-3 weeks to hear back from them. Oh the waiting process is almost over. I can see light at the end of this tunnel and can almost start smelling the flowers of the new person I will become! Now I was hoping to be an April Bandster, Which it still could happen, but I'm keeping my mind set now for May, so I won't become disappointed in waiting. This extra time will help me also to prepare for the new habits I have been making already and the new ones I still have to set. Thanks everyone for your support. I have been reading this site and commenting a little since last October, when I started this process.

Congrats on your upcoming Surgery! Only 3 days to go! Can't wait for my day also. This is kind of what i was thinking. Want time to get use to "Liquid" Stage. I was hoping to get rid of some of the "carbs" in my diet and this would help me also. When you did this Protein shake, did you find yourself after having one for breakfast that you are not hunger for lunch? I'm still feeling very full yet and its 1pm and I had my shake at 6:30 this morning. Thanks -

I figured it would help me prepare for the 2 weeks of drinking these. Just wanted to incorporate some of these in my diet now and get use to them. Had one this morningat 6:30 for Breakfast not to bad. Still feel really full at 11:30 not even wanting anything right now. I'm really surprised how full I feel yet. Also I plan on exercising to just like normal or even step it up a notch, since it is finally getting warm up here. -

I also have BCBS. I had to do the 6 month diet thing also. I go in Thursday for my last appt. Yeah! I was heartbroken and upset that I had to do this also, but it really went fast. I am hoping to have surgery in April! It does seem really like a long time, I know I was at that point also. Just remember its just a second from a Lifetime of the new you. Hope everything goes great for you. Keep us posted! -

SDTeaGirl replied to kaylovegee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have my last 6 month "supervised Visit" on March 10th. Then I just have to wait for insurance approval. The doctors office is telling me probably mid to end of April for my surgery! Can't wait! -
6mth diet-Questions

I will go next week for month 2. So very new to this also. I had the Doctors office (the doc that is going to do my LapBand) set me up with a person that does this all the time instead of going to my normal doctor...I didn't want anything messed up.. I just don't want to go through all this and have something missing and get denied. Not sure on the nurse thing though...Might want to call your Lapband doctors staff and ask. -
Any South Dakotans (IA & NE too)? Which Dr/Facility did you use? So many close by!

I live in Tea, SD so I going with Dr. Glatt (think that is spelled right) He is very nice. I'm in my 2nd month of this 6 month diet thing I have to do for insurance reasons. Oh I wish it was March!!! Where are you at in this new journey of life??? Would love to keep in contact with someone that is close to me. Thanks Jen -
What type of diet did you go on?
SDTeaGirl replied to startingnew's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went this last Monday for my 1st appt with Doc. I found out that I have to do a 6 month diet plan. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota. But they said all BCBS are the same. I have to do my 6 months with a Doc or a Nutrionist. Good luck. This is my 3rd day on diet and have lost 1.5 lbs. Probably from not eating out... LOL. Its pretty simple went into see Doc/Nut. andthey asked how much weight you want to lose, what type of surgery, talked about calorie intake, exersice and what long term and short term goals. Had you set what I wanted to do this month. I put lose 4-5 lbs, exercise 2 x per week and try around 1600 calories and to do a more well balanced diet. Hope this helps. Sounds like you are about the same place in your journey. Oh...If you can get into Dco/Nut. this month of October yet it will count for a month!!! This is what I did. -
I go in for my appt today also. Thanks for some of the questions to ask. I'm so excited and very ready to start my new life.

I'm new here also. I made my appointment with Doc over 2 months ago and this Monday I finally go see him. I'm so excited and I'm ready for this life changing discussion I'm going to make. I wish I already had the lapband put in and seeing progress...but I know its just a little more wait and I will be there!! I'm hoping to be banded before X-mas. This would be the best X-mas gift I could ever give to myself and my family. I have a 7 yr old daughter and a very supportive husband and family. I have High blood pressure, Type 2 Diabetic and my BMI is over 40. So I need this!!! Welcome!! -
Ok I decide enough is enough. I scheduled my appointment last month and I can not get in until end of October for my first visit. I was wondering on how long do you have to wait before they schedule surgery after your visit. I just need a letter of approval from my health insurance. Just excited and was wondering what to expect. Thanks
