After fills how many days do you stay on liquids?
Alycopp replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow my Dr. is strict! I knew he was, but I am alittle jealous right now that you all get to eat so soon after a fill I have to go through hell all over again! LOL Hopefully it won't be so bad this time around. -
Not drinking while eating??
Alycopp replied to doodlebug54's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My rules are pretty much the same, but my Dr. does not believe in the 30 mins. before a meal because he said it makes it too hard to get our 64oz. I too have found it hard to not drink with or after my meals, but I have gotten used to it. The reason is that if you eat with or right after your meal you wash all the food down and won't get the "I don't want to eat anymore feeling" and it won't last as long. During the liquids faze I did not follow the rule because I was not going to be washing anything down, but it helps to get into the habit asap. Good luck to you. -
help with sleeping after Surgery
Alycopp replied to lakerdodgerchick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good advice, but I have to be honest I came straight home from the hospital, plopped into bed(they gave me anti-nausea meds that made me sleep), and slept on my side and stomach for about five hours and every night after that with really no discomfort. I only had two incisions I don;t know if that was why, but the one is pretty big (like 3 inches). I guess everyone is different. -

Alycopp replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr says 3 days, then mushies for a week, then soft foods for a week, and then back to regular foods. I go Friday and am dreading being starving again. I hope I get some restriction. -
Does anyone know why we lose hair along with the weight?
Alycopp replied to minni's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think the protein is key. I have to tell you my hair looks better now than it did pre-surgery when i never even thought about vitamins or protein. My Dr. did warn me about it though and I was told as long as you do what you have to it is not permanent. -

I think, but I am not a Dr., that it is the protein and vitamin deficiency. That is why they stress it sooooo much. -
Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
Alycopp replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery went pretty well as did my husbands. On the day of surgery I had to be there at 6am for a 730 surgery. It was much of the same as some of the above. Checked in, got an IV (some trouble there no big deal), got asked who i was, where I lived, what I was having done, any alergies, etc by three different people atleast. My mom and husband came to see me off and the dr talked to us for a bit. I was then wheeled down to the or at about 730. Once there they got me on the table and straped me in before tilting it to make sure I was comfortable cause they do the surgery at I think a 45 degree angle something like that and my dr is very concerned about patient comfort even though you will be out cold. Then they tilted me back down and said goodnight. I said goodnight and the next thing i knew I was in recovery. Recovery was rough because the anestesia made me sick. I told them I was nauseus and they gave me meds right away, but as soon as i got them I started throwing up. About 20 mins later I was still not feeling well and they gave me another shot and again I started throwing up. The worst part was that I was still pretty out of it and feeling very overwhlemed and confused. They went and got my mom and husband to try and make me feel better which was nice because your family usually cant see you in stage 1 recovery. They got me well enough to go to stage 2 where you sit in the recliner, but still feeling real sick. They gave me the option of a stronger shot that would make me sleep for 4-5 hours and i took it. They let me nap for a bit and asked if i just wanted to go home as besides feeling icky I was fine. My mom took me home while the hubby picked up my meds. I got home around 130 and slept until 730. I woke up feeling fine. We actually went to my mother-in-laws house because she was watching my son and keeping him over night and I wanted to see him. I felt great at this point just a tiny bit sore. The next fews days I had some gas pains and soreness, but the pain meds made it feel better. Like some of the other ladies on here I have had a c-section and this was a walk in the park in comparison. I am 3 weeks out now and no compaints. My husband is 2 weeks out and his surgery was fine and he feels fine. I go for my first fill friday and am more nervous about that than I was surgery I think. Sorry for the long story I guess I had a lot to say. Good luck to everyone. -
:frown:Would that explain the pain I get in my shoulder when I exercise too? It felt like gas pains all over again. I actually had to stop running because of it.

Confused about my band
Alycopp replied to scarlottaitalia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know your opinion might not be the most popular, but I agree. I am 3 weeks out and honestly I did east 1 slice of pizza today. I am allowed to east regular food now so I was not breaking a rule. Could I have eaten 2 slices? Absolutely! However, I got one slice took it home and ate it with a fork and knife to kill a craving I have had for 2 weeks now. I have no restriction so can literally eat whatever I want. By no means do I eat 4 oz at a sitting because if I did that I would be so hungry I would def. cheat. BUT, I do not go over 800-900 calories a day, I make ecellent food choices, and I excercise. I use about.com calorie counter to keep me in check and really am not finding it that hard and I live with a five year old who eats ice cream and Cookies and burger king in ffront of me(not all the time God i am not raising a litttle me, LOL). I am having a hard time understanding why you would get banded and fall off the wagon soooo fast. It is HARD don't get me wrong, but like anything it takes committment and effort. Sorry for the long post, but I as well have a hard time reading some posts. Thank you for your honesty and kindness. And like you I am not trying to get down on anyone, but the reality is nothing will change unless we make the effort to change it. -
Not really. Made the way I mentioned above you are only talking about 70 calories for a 1/2 cup serving. Obviously your way is probably like 10, but when it is the mushy stage 70 calories is no big deal. You just want new and different ways of making things during this stage.

Lane Bryant until you are out of Plus Size. there jeans a re a little pricey $50 or so, but if you can catch a sale or coupon you can get deals. -
Great recipe! I also use the steam able cauliflower with garlic flavoring(think its birds eye or green giant). I also bought a Ninja food processor with the blender and little processor and it has been a God's Send. I got the recipe from the cookbook eating well after weight loss surgery. Its a great book and real inexpensive. 4 cups cauliflower 2/3 cup skim plus 2 tablespoons fat free sour cream Spray butter Cook cauliflower and puree. Add sour cream and milk and puree some more. Put in micro dish and spray with a little butter micro for two minutes and eat.

I was wondering the same thing. I am two weeks post-op and able to eat soft foods now. I have been making excellent food choices, I have stayed under 850 calories a day and that is high, but I can eat more than 4 oz. that's for sure. I don't eat way more, but more than I will probably be able to do once I get filled. I am not uncomfortable or stuffed when I am done, just content and usually hungry again a few hours later. I was so worried that being able to eat more than 4 oz. would stretch my pouch.

I am 2 weeks post-op and on my second cold. Has anyone else experienced this or am I really unlucky. I'm thinking I might be a little worn down so getting sick more easily, but not really sure. It really sucks though!

Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!
Alycopp replied to Brian-LA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! Got banded 9/28. So far so good. The first week of clear liquids SUCKED, but I got through it and now it seems like a distant memory. Just wanted to add for anyone having trouble making sure they get enough of everything, I use the calorie counter on about.com. It is free and breaks down ALL of your intakes for the day so you know you got enough protein, iron, vits., etc... It is a really great tool and food journal. You can also save foods you eat often so they are easily added. I LOVE IT!!! Good Luck ALL!! -
What are the most likes Shakes!!
Alycopp replied to purple3797's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally I HATED Isopure. Made my mouth dry and phlegmy and tasted like butt. I think Unjury is the best(have to get online). I make it with skim plus in my Ninja(blender thing) and it gets kinda thick and the choco. one tastes like a malt. I don't like any of the vanilla ones cause they smell like baby formula to me. With the mix I do you get 36 grams of protein and 210 calories. -
MUSHIES! What are you eating?
Alycopp replied to emsbugbug's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try mashed cauliflower. It tastes just like potatoes. 4 cups steamed cauliflower(I use the steam in bag kind for the micro) put in food processor and puree then add 4 tablespoons fat free sour cream, 2/3 cup of skim milk and salt and pepper to taste and puree some more. Microwave for 2 mins and use spray butter if u want. They are really good and really filling without the guilt. -
So a few friends were finally honest with me...
Alycopp replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hate when people say it is the easy way out. I am in my second week and it is far from easy. I am hungrier than I ever was on weight wathcers or south beach. I am sore, it looks like I got punched in the stomach by Mike Tyson, I have gas, and can't go poop(sorry). For the rest of our lives we have to track what we eat and the nutrients, get needles stuck in our bellys, and so on. Not easy at all! This is the strictest diet I have ever been on. Don't let people get you down. It has nothing to do with lazy or easy. You made the decision that was right for you. Good Luck and feel better. -
One year out.. Not doing well.
Alycopp replied to MHawthorne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is a cookbook call Eating Well After Weightloss Surgery by Patt Levine and Michelle Bontmpo-Saray that has some really great recipes for soups and veggie dishes. There are meat dishes too for maybe later if u get more comforttable with it. Also I use the free calorie counter on about.com and it helps keep track of everything. Good luck and hope you feel better. -

Alycopp replied to Alycopp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for all the advice. I don't feel as bloated today, but still does not seem good to me to go without going so long. -
I am 1 week out from surgery. I have had some diarhea since surgery but nothing major. I have not really gone at all since sunday when I started being able to eat mashed pot. and cottage cheese and such. I feel like i am maybe constipated now. Anyone else have this problem?

Bathroom Question-U were warned
Alycopp replied to Alycopp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is how I feel. Like I need to go, but I don't go. I did not feel this was until the addition of oatmeal and cottage cheese and such. I don't know if i should take sxomething or what. I am gonna see my doc tomorrow for my husbands surgery so i will ask him then. -
I had surgery 1 week ago today. I was on clear liquids until yesterday with no protein. Yesterday I was able to add to that diet cottage cheese, yogurt, protein shakes, pudding, mashed veggies, mashed potatoes, and so on. Basically a pureed diet. I know I should not weig myself too often, but I could not resist. Unfortunately, I was disappointed to have gained back a pound. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it just a reaction to having basically no calories to finally having some. Everything was low fat or fat free. I am freaking out that I will gain back the 12 pounds I lost and confused how eating only 800 calories can make you gain a pound. Thanks.

I am always hesitant to try the premade stuff, but I am glsd to hear someones review. My husband and I are both having surgery. I had mine a week ago and he is going this thursday. We r going to be at different stages for a bit and cooking for one is not easy. Greast addition to this page really helpful!
