Have you been "cured" of your type-2 diabetes with Lap-Band?
GipsyGirl replied to krafticus's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started at 260lbs with a goal weight at 150. ( 110lbs overweight ) female I was taken off my diabetic medications next day after the surgery. Since then my number wasn't higher than 120 - usually it keeps itself at 90. Since lap band I am not supposed to eat carbs anyway so it works for me. Good luck. -

Diet Pills during Post-Op?
GipsyGirl replied to RoxyChick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ok here is the deal with me - I was so hungry a week after the surgery that my doc put me on phentermine ( controlled amphetamine like drug ) with 3 refills. It works beautifully. I just had my first fill and I feel no restriction at all but my diet pills work so well. Good luck. I wouldn't take over the counter diet pills I would ask your doc for some prescription ones. -
Help! Any info will be appreciated.
GipsyGirl replied to bluemoon1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah... They told me that in the first weeks before the fill I shouldn't expect to loose any weight at all... My first fill just happened and I do not feel any different. I have a 10cc capacity band and he put 2cc at this first fill. I am already looking forward to my next one. -
How often do you weigh yourself?
GipsyGirl replied to WrenBird's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weight myself every day. Sometimes i do not feel like I am loosing at all when I miss a day or two. Then I get on the scale and it is a great surprise - I loose pound by pound. Sometimes I stay on the same number for a couple of days which does make me feel like I am doing something wrong and I know that is not the case but eventually my numbers go down. So, every day... -
I live in South Nashville and I would love to find a suport group to go to with someone who can relate to my situation ( pre or post op - it doesn't matter ) Any people here who are still interested in following with the support groups?
-
oh, hey. I was banded at Centennial. I wouldn't mind going with you to your meeting sometime.

Just set my surgery date - Dec. 2nd!
GipsyGirl replied to vickyd's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
its great that you shared your news - the more people know it the more support you have. You are going to do it anyway so what can they do about it? they told me that the main reason I had to have liquid diet was because they needed my liver to shrink before the surgery for it not to be in their way when they operate on me. I guess they didn't want me to have BMs on the day of the surgery either. Hey - if you have any questions - write... -
Restriction before first fill?
GipsyGirl replied to wakeuprn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was very very hungry as soon I recovered from the surgery. My doc put me on appetite uppresant called Phentermine. It works beautifully. -

Smokers? X-Smokers? or those trying to QUIT....
GipsyGirl replied to Renee1003's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I shamefully admit that I have the same problem. I vowed that I will quit smoking the day I was approved for the surgery. it has been 4 weeks post op and I still can't quit. I have been begging my doctor to prescribe me Wilbutrin or Chantix or something... he keeps telling me he will do it later when I will recover from the surgery. -
I say change the hospital. The first hospital I went to they denied me - the second one was very supportive and I already lost 30lbs since the surgery

Am I crazy to do this???
GipsyGirl replied to Alisabeth's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
if you tried to loose that weight for quite some time and nothing worked you may as well do it. 11k for extra years of life - I would take that deal -
So fustrated, and don't know what to do....
GipsyGirl replied to jenndubbd's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took my insurance for-ever to tell me that they need one more medical paper from one of the doctors. When they finally got it it took them two days. It is funny you mention signs and stuff. I did too. First time I said if they deny me that would be a sign that I shouldn't have started it all in the first place. When they told me that they can't approve me because I was missing one of the doctors approval I said - well, I did so much to get it already - why not go all the way. And I did. I lost 30lbs in 4 weeks. This is my 5th week and I am about to have my first fill. I am sure the weight loss will stop being so rapid and I am supposed to loose only 2-3 lbs a week but hey - the more the better for me. I just have to make sure I eat Protein and drink multivitamis. Good Luck. If I had to go it again - I wouldn't stop at anything. I have BCBS of IL -
BCBS-AZ Anyone? How long to approve?
GipsyGirl replied to happygirl65's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every insurance provider has a 30 day maximum wait limit, so it definitely wont take more than 30 days. -
Approved--kinda
GipsyGirl replied to FinallyChanging's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you know don't worry. A day before the surgery they told me that my AKG was not right. I was panicking. They scheduled appointment the same day with a doctor and he approved me. I had my surgery the very next day. I did have to wait 6 hours since my doctor had an emergency surgery before me, but it was worth the wait. Now 4 weeks later I am 30lbs lighter. -
BMI of 35, wondering about comorbidities...
GipsyGirl replied to aort's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was at 35. I gained some weight before I requested the surgery - I was at 37 and got approved. I have diabetes 2 and hypo thyroid. It has been 4 weeks since the surgery and I am at 33 BMI. I lost 28lbs in 4 weeks since the surgery - isn't that awesome? You can always appeal if they deny you.
