I have been overweight my entire life. I had a very good friend who had the lap band done and it changed her life. I was amazed at her success and a bit jealous. She did her surgery self pay, that wasnt' an option for me so I began the journey of having it covered by my insurance. After two years of weight loss clinics, diet classes and psych evaluation I was approved because of my current weight, BMI and the fact that I had sleep apnea. I found out I had been approved and referred to a local doctor my clinic uses. They had not contacted me in time and my approval was revoked. Luckily, the clinic had a new surgeon starting and he would be doing the lap band. I was his first patient. It is almost my anniversary date and I am down 47 lbs. I have to say I thought it would be easier or at least I thought I would have lost more weight my now. My goal is 90 lbs so I am more than half way there. I will say that there have been many positives to having this surgery. I feel good about myself everyday. I enjoy trying on clothes so much that often on the weekends I will spend hours in my closet trying on clothes and making a pile of clothes that I have outgrown. I now exercise 5 to 6 days a week and I am addicted to spinning classes. I'm also going to treat myself to a new road bike after the first of the year. I feel great and there isn't one day I regret my decision to have my lap band.
