I am just now starting to consider getting the lap band. I have been seeing my MD for a year for high cholesterol which we finally have under control with medication. I do not currently have any other complications to my health but given my family history I know that diabetes and heart disease are a realistic expectation for my future if nothing changes. Over the payst year I have been slowly changing my diet, and increasing my exercise with no change in my weight. I have joined a gym and have been really working hard in the last week because I feel a sense of urgency and desperation to get healthier and stronger before my condition deteriorates. Like many others I have tried many programs all of which failed to teach me to properly adjust my lifestyle. I am considering lapband surgery now as a possible lasting solution to the problem of consistant hunger when I restrict my calories below 1200 which is what it takes for me to lose any weight at all. I am hopeful that I can find some support and useful information on this website to help me make the final decision.
