Negative comments about getting LapBand
Mommyto1 replied to tryingtolose100's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I say do what you want and don't let your sister change your mind. I've only told a few people because I made my decision to have the surgery and the only opinion that really mattered was my husband, and he's been completely supportive. -
I got my approval today from my insurance company. My doctor sent all the paperwork last Tuesday. I'm scheduled to be banded on October 15. My doctor was able to do the surgery on October 8, but it was a 4pm and I wanted to make sure I could be home the same day. I'm so excited!!

Thanks everyone. To those waiting, I hope you get your approvals soon!!

I've tried to lose weigh for years and after doing endless research I decided to pursue LapBand surgery. My surgery is scheduled for October 15. I know there's a chance of having sagging skin, but being morbidly obese is more of a concern to me than having sagging skin. I've also started an exercise program hoping to prevent any sagging. My advice to you is do what you feel comfortable doing. Don't let anyone convince you to have or not have the surgery.

Lap Band or Sleeve (VSG) ???
Mommyto1 replied to love.star's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was seriously considering the sleeve, but I just wasn't comfortable with having 80% of my stomach removed. My doctor explained both procedures and for me personally, I just felt more comfortable with LapBand. -
Waiting to have 1st appt. and a ?

My insurance originally required a 6 month supervised diet, but that changed in August, so I only had to do a 3 month diet. I went to the seminar on June 15 and has my 1st appointment with my doctor on June 21. When I went in for the initial appointment I was hoping to have my surgery scheduled ASAP, but having to wait has actually been beneficial. I have a significant amount of weight to lose (100+ pounds) and during this "waiting period" I've started to eat better and joined a gym to prepare for my life post-surgery. I was just approved today by my insurance company and my surgery date is set for October 15. -
October 2010 Bandsters!!
Mommyto1 replied to Sarah71407's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm scheduled for October 15 at 7:45am. My doctor was able to do October 8, but it would be around 4 in the afternoon and I wanted to make sure I'd be home the same day. I'm so excited and ready to start my journey. -
Same here. I dropped off all the necessary paperwork on Friday and my doctor's office was sending it to my insurance company today. Fingers are crossed that this process will go quickly. Good luck to everyone.

Do I tell or do I keep it a secret???
Mommyto1 replied to nancy_marie_00's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've only told my husband, parents and sisters. Oh and my longtime neighbor since I bumped into her at the hospital while having my pre-op tests done. Once I have the surgery, I'll tell more people (like my in-laws). I haven't told anyone else because I don't want to hear any negative comments or how I'm choosing "the easy way", because this wasn't a decision that I came to overnight. -
Here goes nothin'

Hi Liz, I'm Dana. I'm also new to this. I'm planning on getting banded because I had some concerns over the sleeve. When I spoke to my doctor, he discussed the sleeve with me and I'm not comfortable with having 80% of my stomach removed. As far as telling people, the only people I have told are my husband, my parents & sisters and a long-time neighbor (because she was me when I was in the hospital getting my pre-op tests done). Other than them, I have no immediate plans to tell anyone else. I especially don't want my in-laws to know until after the surgery because I need to hear positive comments and I know they'll say I'm taking the easy way out. I've been overweight most of my life, with short periods of "skinny" mixed in. Getting this surgery was not an easy choice, I've debated this surgery for years. I've just gotten to the point where I feel like I need to do something if I want to see my son grow up. I know by taking the steps to have the surgery, I'm make a choice for healthier lifestyle. Today, I joined the gym and I'm starting to workout because I want to change and I WILL change. Don't feel pressured to tell anyone. My friend (who referred me to her surgeon) had her surgery, has lost over 50 pounds (since March) and still hasn't told anyone. She just said she's working out and working with a nutritionist. Good luck!! -
I'm new and looking for as much information as I can find prior to having my surgery. I had my initial appointment on June 21. My insurance only requires a 3 month supervised diet, so I've completed all the necessary steps in the hopes of being banded in October. I've had my nutritional and psychological evaluations done, and I've finished all my pre-op tests. Tomorrow night I'm attending the pre-op class and on Wednesday I'm going to a support group. I'm hoping insurance approves the surgery quickly because I'm a stay-at-home mom until January, when I'll be returning to my job. I'm really excited to start this journey!!
