  1. I think everyone tolerates foods differently. My biggest issues have been bread and meats that are a little dry. Pizza is awful for me. I love pizza, but it's just not worth it. The few times I've tried to have a slice, it's gotten "stuck", so now no more pizza.

    Carb withdrawals

Those first weeks post op are the toughest. Just remember it will get better. I remember a couple of weeks after I had my surgery my husband had order a pizza for himself and my son. I seriously thought I would kill someone for a slice of that pizza LOL! In the long run, it's been so worth it to stick to the diet. I was banded October 15, and I'm down 60 lbs.
  3. Congrats on the surgery! A heating pad really helped with any gas pains that I had experienced.
  4. I have the Realize Band because that's the band my doctor prefers to use. I read about both the Realize band and Lap Band and didn't really have a preference. I was banded in October 2010, so far I'm down between 56-60 pounds (56.5 lbs since my last dr. appt a few weeks ago; 60 lbs. based on my scale today). My band is an 11 cc band and I think I've finally reached my "sweet spot" at 7.5 cc's. Good luck with your surgery.
  5. This has been an exciting weekend. Yesterday, I decided it was time to buy a pair of jeans. I went into the dressing room with a few different sizes since I haven't bought jeans in almost a year. Well, a year ago when I bought my last pair of jeans I was in a size 26. Yesterday, size 18!!! I'm down 4 pants sizes since having my surgery in October. I was super excited. Today, I wore the jeans along with a really cute tank top and cute cardigan over it and I have to say, for the first time in years I felt like I looked damn good! I got so many compliments from everyone, I can't remember the last time I wore pants in anything less than a size 20, it has to be at least 8 years. I guess it's nice to finally be seeing the results. It's no like I haven't been told that I look like I've lost weight, but today for the first time I could actually see how much weight I've lost. As crazy as it sounds, up until the last week or so, I really hadn't looked in the mirror and acknowledged how much weight I've lost. So far 56.5 pounds and counting!
  6. That sounds like gas pains. I had a lot of gas pains post op. Gas x strips, peppermint tea and a heating pad helped. So did walking. But the heating pad was definitely the biggest help to relieve some of the trapped gas.
  7. I was on clear liquids for 3 days post op then full liquids and proteins shakes for another 2 weeks. at 2 weeks post op I started on mushies and at 4 weeks I started on regular foods. It's funny how different doctors have different guidelines

    Jean shopping..

I've been wearing a lot of stretch pants and leggings. I didn't want to spend much money on clothes while I as losing. It was such a nice surprise to fit into a pair of jeans that didn't start with a "2" as the first number.

    Getting tired...

If your getting sick daily, maybe you should go to your doctor to get a slight unfill. I was overfilled last week (got a fill on 3-7) and after a few days of getting sick, I went to my doctor and had them removed 1/2 cc. After that I felt much better. Now this week, I feel like I maybe a little tight, but it's also my TOM, so I'm hoping that's it. Otherwise, I'll head to the office this week for another slight unfill.

    Pain after fill

I've never had any pain following a fill. Maybe you should talk to your doctor especially since it's been almost a week.

    banded on 3/17/11

I was banded in October and my biggest recommendations are: Gas X strips, peppermint tea and a heating pad for the shoulder pain. The heating pad helped tremendously with the shoulder pain.

    Did i over do it????

I would stick to whatever plan your doctor has given you. The first few weeks after surgery really difficult, hunger wise. I felt like I was hungry most of the time, but I stuck to my doctors plan and it's really paid off.

    soft drink

I'm not much of a soda drinker, but I did have a small amount a couple of weeks ago. In my experience, it's not worth it. It gave me such severe gas pains.
  15. Congrats!! Tonight, I pulled out a pair of skinny jeans and white button down that I bought right after I had my surgery, at that time they were way too small, but the deal was too good to pass up. I tried both on and they fit!! It's so exciting when your able to fit into clothes that are so much smaller than when you started this whole journey. I've already donated quite a few bags of clothes to goodwill and it looks like I'll be make more donations soon.

    Unrealistic goals

I think it's definitely possible. I was banded on October 15 and so far I've lost 56.5 pounds.

    am i too tight?! URGENT

Last week I had my 4th fill. Up until then I had very little restriction. I got 1 cc added and after the initial day of liquids, I couldn't keep anything other than liquids down. So I had a 1/2 a cc removed and let me tell you what a difference that made. It's hard to believe that such a little amount could make such a big difference, but it did. If you feel like you're getting stuck or having issues swallowing talk to your doctor because you maybe too tight. I lost 4.4 pounds in those couple of days that I was overfilled, which some would think was great, but I felt so awful.

    So tell me...

I had my surgery October 15, 2010. So far I've lost 56.5 pounds. The best part of my weight loss is that I feel so much better and I have so much more energy.

how you feel after being banded

It will definitely get better. I had some gas pains after the surgery and Gas X strips and peppermint tea helped. If you're feeling tightness in your upper chest/shoulder area, try a heating pad that worked great for me.
  20. I was banded in October and it's been one of the best decisions of my life! The day before the surgery I was nervous, wondering if I was doing the right thing, maybe I should try dieting without the band before undergoing surgery, etc. The first few days after surgery were uncomfortable, but by 10 days post-op I was at the gym (doing the bike and treadmill) and I felt really good. Good luck!!
  21. I've hit a bit of a plateau in the last month, so I think I'll give this a try. I think I may have started adding too many carbs to my diet and that's the reason for my plateau.

    I am failing

I was banded on October 15 and I've lost about 50 pounds. The first few months, I felt like I was losing really good. The last month, I've hit a plateau. Haven't really lost anything. My doctor said it could take 4-6 fills before I start to feel restriction. I have a fill scheduled for tomorrow and I'm hoping that helps.

Thank god for the lap band

Good for you!!! Congrats, that's an awesome weight loss. I was banded in October and hoping to be down about 100 pounds by October of this year. **Fingers Crossed**

    Need protein help!

I was banded over 4 months ago, and I still have a protein shake for breakfast (most days) just to make sure I'm getting enough protein everyday.
