  1. After a complete unfill in the beginning of December, due to a slip and esophagus dilatation, I am now back on my way to fills. My 1st fill was (sorry Im a 4cc band) 1.5cc, second was .5 and third was .5. I could still use another one, im able to eat apples, breads and not feel the same restriction that I had before I was symptomatic. Prior to being symptomatic I was at 3.5cc, that's when my problems started, to date im at 2.5. Im hoping another .5 will bring me to where I need to be, I sure would like to see some weight loss. Im thinking the esophagus can easily dilate once its already been stretched and the success rate for weight loss is very low. Is there someone out there that has been successful after having my same issues? Or did you go for a revision surgery?

    Esophageal Dilation with prolapse

I have the same problem, my band was never positioned properly, I was told this the day after surgery by the surgeon, he had difficulty positioning the band, because of a past hernia repair. After two year I only lost 40lbs, I was very diligent with diet and exercise. I kept getting fills, hoping the weight loss would start again, but it never did. What happened was I became too tight, and after time, my esopaghus dilated and I developed a pouch at the top, thus I was able to eat more, basically now I have two stomachs. Long story short, I had a scope done and diagnosed with the above, treatment is to have a complete defill, wait one month. Tomorrow I go for my 1st (again) fill. My surgeon will monitor and see if my symptoms return (GERD, choking), if they do, he will then recommend repostioning the band, if he cant, the band will come out!
  3. 2 years post lap band, 4cc band. I lost 40lb, I have 30 more to loose. My surgeon had a hard time placing the band due to a previous hernia repair, to it's not in perfect position. I do have restriction, but not great. I can eat eggs for breakfast, sandwich for lunch, and a full supper. If I eat in the evening I cough at night. Do I need to have this band repositioned? I go for a scope in November. Frustrated and loosing hope!
  4. I was just had a gastrosopcy. The diagnosis was slipped band and dilated esophagus. My Bariatric Doctor left a note for my saying to follow up with him in his office for a complete unfill. Has anyone else had this diagnosis?
  5. I am perhaps looking at having my lap band repositioned, I have been told by a lap band Dr. that my slip cannot be fixed by simply following a liquid diet and shrinking my pouch. Has anyone had their band repositioned?
  6. I cough/choke at night while sleeping, I have severe heart burn, sometimes I have mild pain at the band sit. Some days im a bottomless pit and can eat everything, encluding carbs, which normally I couldnt eat. These symptoms are chronic, meaning they happen all the time, left untreated they can become emergent. One person I know ignored there symptoms, then needed emergency surgery. The surgeon undid her band and closed her up. Now she needs to heal and if she decides, she can have another surgery to hook it back up. My worst fear
  7. A little fluid out, is sometimes all that's needed. Your doctor wouldnt know unless they did an x-ray, barrium swollow, or scope
  8. Glad to hear the revision is doing its job! best of luck in doing yours, I know its tempting to eat those sliders first.
  9. How are you doing after the revision?
  10. Never mind! I started drinking more wine! Red especially
  11. I've been told by Dr. Perez in Mexico that surgery is the only corrective measure, but im hearing different from readers. I had my surgery in Mexico, and I have no insurance either, but! you can always go through your emergency department, they have to take care of you, only hope there solution is not to remove the band and leave it! I went throught our ER department and was seen by a bariatric surgeon, I have my scope next week, I'll let you know what his plan is for me.
  12. Hi Ray, how are things going for you! Why another port, was it damaged? My friends mother just had emergency surgery for a slippage, there was too much injury to the area around the band, they had to disconnect her band and leave it to heal. She'll need another surgery later to reconnect. That would be my worst fear, I dont have the insurance either.
  13. Best wishes with your continued weight loss. Im on the gain as well, I hope after my fluroscopy there able to fix mine as well.
  14. What did they find after the scope? How bad was your slip, and did he not offer to fix it?
  15. meat 1st then vegies, then starch, oh yes! I can eat more than 1 cup, in fact im still hungry after 1 cup, however some day's this is not the case, I get stuck right away, maybe i didnt chew enough and ate to quick. But for the majority Im able to eat well. I don't write and measure, Ive been on weight watchers long enough(in the past) to know what portion and caloric intake im consuming.
  16. Hi Lower BMI and no comorbids I was banded in Monterray Mexico Sept 2012, My weight was 227lbs, It has been a struggle for me to get anymore weight off. My lowest weight was 185 this summer, but I have gained 5 lb since. Some day's I can eat, and eat and not feel full, other days I get stuck and vomit. I have had a slippage, but was told that it was since the surgery, my surgeon had a hard time getting the band in place because of a previous hernia repair. I live on heart burn medication and would be in serious pain without it. My band is a 4cc and im at 3.25, if I go over this fill amount I choke at night. This is the 1st time I have spoken out loud about this, Im wondering if anyone else has had these similar issues. Im not giving up!

    Choking In My Sleep

I've been bandad for 2 years now and have lost 41 lbs, 20 lbs more and i'll be at goal. My problem is, I had a fill last week 3.5 to a 4cc band. Since my lap band I have had acid reflux and need Rx medication, and it's been working. Just in the last few days I have been up in the night "choking", last night It happened maybe a dozen times. Im able to eat and drink during the day, I do have lots of restriction and my consumption is a lot less, I feel this is a good fill. I do need to confess to eating later in the evening before bed, but have stopped this recently. Last night was the 1st night where I didnt eat or drink 2 hrs before bed, and it was the worst night ever for choking. Im worried. I'll continue to not eat before bed, up it to 3 hours prior. I'll call my Dr. and ask if I can take another Rx for GERD early in the evening. If that doesnt work, im worried about losing my band.

    Choking In My Sleep

THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH! I went to the ER today ,the Dr. who saw me is a bariatric surgeon. I expressed to him that I only wanted a small amount taken out, but he said "I could run the risk of returning to the ER again"and he recommended a 1cc unfill. I need to wait a month and then begin with .25cc fills until I get to my sweet spot. Darn I was almost there, if he had only done a small unfill I think that would have been it. Anyway, I just wanted to let you all know how the day ended. Thanks again for your support!

    Band leak?

I went to Cancun last winter for a holiday, while there I went to see Dr. Perez. I had not been loosing any more weight for quite some time. I did have some restriction, but was working too hard in order to maintain my current weight. My band holds 4cc. and I was at the top. Dr. Perez was able to withdraw only 2cc of clear Fluid. No visible signs of leakage. He then (under fluoroscopy) filled my band to 3cc, and I felt more restriction, he could also see the restriction as I swallowed the barrium. I asked why I went from 4cc to 2cc. Keep in mind none of my other fills were ever done under fluoroscopy, so did I really get to 4cc?? Were some of my fills interstitial?? meaning, was the saline injected outside of the port. Another explanation I received: Evaporation!, really 2cc's evaporated. Dr. Perez left it was more likley I never received 4cc to begin with. Although this has happened, I still have restriction. It was also noticed that my band slipped, likley shortly after my surgery, it was hard for my surgeon to get the band in place from the beginning, due to a previous hernia repair. With all that said, I havent lost a lb since I've been back from Cancun! I still feel restriction, but mostly in the am, by the evening im hungry and it takes a larger portion to become satified. So im going back to a fill Dr. I know in Manitoba, no fluoroscopy, too bad! Hope you have better luck!
