I am a healthy person, except for being obese, so I was shocked and dismayed when I was placed on medication for hypertension. My doctor explained that loosing weight would probably end the problem. I tried little things, like eating out less often and going to the gym, but it was never enough. I quit smoking in January 2009 and gained 40 lbs in 8 months. I knew I had to do something. Gastric Bypass scares the life out of me, so I investigated banding procedures. I felt comfortable with this, well, at least as comfortable as one can. I have never had surgery in my life and have only spent one night in the hospital (told you I was healthy), so this was a HUGE step for me. I attended a seminar in November of 2009, had my first appointment with the surgeon in January, did 7 months of weight loss monitoring with my primary physician (for insurance reasons), got approved in August and had my surgery September 7, 2010. Now the real fun begins!
