    Public Service Announcement

LOL wow... but I did take notes because I DO NOT want that happening to me.

    tired and weak

I went through a lot of fatigue post op. You just have to remember that you just went through major surgery and even though you may think on the outside you looked like your are fast on your way to recovery--- on the inside... it's a little more intense. I started feeling better energy wise at about 4 weeks. I hope this helps.. just keep your chin up and give your body time to heal.

    Sleep troubles?

During the first 3 weeks post op I did have some issues with sleeping. It wasn't a matter of pain as much as just uneasyness. It slowly resolved itself but was a pain in the hiney until it did.
  4. I am doing about 70 to 80 grams of protein a day. But I get most of those in snacks and the fact that I do drink a protein shake in the mornings. I blend my shake with a half a bananna a small teaspoon of peanut butter and a lil ice. The peanut butter cuts down on the foam that you can get when blending shakes and it adds a lil more protein. My snacks usually consist of Greek yogart (usually comes with fruit in it), cottage cheese (with fruit), cheese (have to be careful not to get constipated), and sliced 98 0r 99 % fat free lean ham, chicken, or turkey. Sometimes the sliced meat can give 5 grams of protein per thin slice and I usually can eat 2 maybe 2 and 1/2. Other then that mixing up some sugar free pudding and using the flavorless protein powder does really well. I also mixed the flavorless protein powder with EVERYTHING almost my first month to 6 weeks post op because it was harder to eat things. Just some ideas

I have at least 145 pounds to lose

I agree with Brenda, I am really tall at almost 6 feet so it takes ALOT of weight loss before everyone can see it. I think I lost a little over 30 when people started noticing. Everyone else started noticing before I did. It will happen... Just have to give it a shot to work for ya.
  6. with losing weight so quickly it is likely or possible that we could develope gallbladder stones and that could be what they are scanning for. Actually that is the only thing they could be scanning for lol.

I have at least 145 pounds to lose

Globetrotter - I can relate to you so much. I had surgery on 5.21 and the first 3 to 5 weeks were slow. I hit a block around that time but then my body made up for it in the weeks after that. I know the road seem longs for us. I have lost almost 70 pounds in 2 and a half months. I still don't met my water requirements daily that is something I am still working on but I do get my grams of protein in daily. The best advise I can give you is to NOT weigh daily. I only weigh once a week usually on Mondays. It helps because our bodies float between gaining and losing and healing so the weight changes. If you don't see the scale move in a day we get antsy. Just save some heart ache and put the scale away. You will do great. Just stay on plan and do what you can to make these months successful.
  8. Gallbladder ultra sound is to see if you have any gallbladder stones or flares. It's just to make sure you don't have complications after the surgery.
  9. I think your doing great. Things will seem more steady after a month. That is how things happened for me. But at the same time, I had ALOT more to lose and that has alot to do with it. Keep your head up and realize it is a new way of life. You just have to keep going and believe that it will happen for you.

    Regrets?

I don't regret my decision at all. I have my down days where eating as much as other people sounds tempting. But for the most part I love my new self more and more everyday.

VSG Monday and I've got a cold :s

I was in the same boat as you right before my surgery. The funny thing is that after surgery it was all gone. They use alot of antibotics during and after surgery. Not only that but the anesthisea (sp?) tends to dry up congestion. But I think it has alot to do with if you have chest congestion. I wish you luck, hopefully they will be able to do the surgery.

    2 days post op

Steph - so glad your doing ok. Don't worry the protein and fluid goals will come. I didn't anywhere near goal on just one of them for a week post op. Just remember you will feel better lil by lil everyday. Your doing well.. keep it up.
  19. Speaking from experience, you have to have a solid support group around you after surgery. You will be emotional and things will be difficult at first. Putting that aside, if I had a boyfriend that didn't try to understand me and support a very meaningful and important decision like this then I would have to really ask myself why I was in the relationship. I was in a relationship for 10 years and decided one day that I was worth way more then he could ever give me. I think you should reflect on this more and really think about this. If you don't do the surgery you will blame him for it for years. What if yall break up? Then you will think that you wasted time that you could have been doing something for yourself.
  20. Today marks two months since surgery and I am 54 pounds down. I can't believe the weight loss but more then that I am starting to feel so much better. I am starting to have more energy and I am having to work harder to get my heart rate up while working out. Other then that, my body doesn't hurt as much as it use to. I still have a long way to go but boy... this feels awesome. I won't lie the first few weeks after surgery were hard but I got better day by day. For those of you new to the surgery and still in your post op Phase.... it gets better I promise. Keep your head up and keep going. Thanks to everyone for all there support. Pictures will follow later!
  21. I can relate to you. I did the same thing. I found what worked for me. Once my paperwork was submitted to my insurance co. I called the doctors office and my insurance co. once a week to see if it had been approved. They got tired of hearing from me so it might have helped. Once I got the authorization my surgery was scheduled but it was over a month out. I called every two days to see if there was a surgery cancelation sooner. Ended up happening 3 weeks before my scheduled surgery date. I hope this helps.
  22. I do medical billing and most authorizations do have an expiration date but it depends on the insurance and the person who obtainned the auth as to when it will expire. I wish you best of luck.
